Wireless connectivity, expanded views highlight advanced safety systems

LONG BEACH, CALIF., September 3, 2019 (MEDIAWIRE) – In July, KENWOOD USA released the first of three new dash cameras in the DRV-A301W. With an MSRP of $169.95, the reimagined dash cam features a high-definition front camera backed with a vibrant 2.7-inch screen. However, most notable on the model is its ability to wirelessly connect to a smartphone to play back recorded incidents and even download them to the smartphone for distribution via email or social media.

Today, KENWOOD announced it has shipped two additional versions of the new design. The DRV-A501WDP and DRV-A601WDP feature a three-inch display and include a second camera that sees behind the vehicle to record traffic and help determine liability in a rear-end collision. Suggested retail prices are $269.95 and $329.95, respectively. The new models complete a trio that improves driver awareness while integrating with a smartphone-centric ecosystem.

Performance-wise, each model features reversible camera view and expanded dynamic range that records clear images in dark or well-lit environments. A built-in microphone and speaker records and plays back recorded audio. The DRV-A301W records at 1080p (1920x1080 pixels). The DRV-A501WDP improves recording up to 2K (2560x1440) from its front camera, and the DRV-A601WDP increases even further to 4K recording quality (3840x2160). Using front and rear cameras, the DRV-A501WDP has a maximum recording quality of 1080p per camera, while the DRV-A601WDP maxes out at 2K per camera with both connected.

All three models mount to the windshield via suction, or to a flat dash surface or panel with an adhesive disc mount. They are powered by the included 12-volt adapter, though an available hard-wire kit (model No. CA-DR1030; MSRP $25) can be used for custom installations. Images are stored on the included MicroSD card, which can be replaced with a card with up to 256GB of storage.

Each of the three models uses an innovative magnetic fitting that secures the camera to the mounting base and supplies power to the camera through the magnetic connection. For security, the user can simply pull the camera off the base for storage without having to disconnect wires.

Built-in GPS lets each model correlate true location data with recorded footage and incidents. When the dash cam is connected to always-on power, its on-board G-sensor detects impact to the vehicle while it is parked and initiates recording to document the incident. Footage can be played back on the camera with audio, or the MicroSD card can be moved to a PC to access footage using proprietary viewing software, available for PC or Mac.

Each of the models features built-in Wi-Fi to connect to a smartphone with the KENWOOD Dash Cam Manager app installed. The connection enables dash cam control as well as downloading, editing and playback of footage with accompanying location mapping.

September 4, 2019 -- The amount of technology needed to work on today’s automobiles is getting greater every year. We all know that. As an industry, we must keep educating ourselves to insure we can stay relevant.

Following the success of the EDUCAR trainings at Knowledgefest this year, Elettromedia-USA has announced a series of educational dealer trainings to be taught by Jason Kranitz of Kingpin University, and assisting Jason will be Lance Doss of EM-USA. The classes will be held at Kingpin University located in Las Vegas, NV.

The schedule includes “Fundamentals of Sound” to be held on September 17-18, “Mastering DSP” on October 16-17, “Masters Training” on November 2-4 (just prior to the SEMA Show) and the series will end with a repeat of “Mastering DSP” on December 4-5. (see full schedule below)

There is a small cost associated with each course depending upon the subject matter covered. Included are hotel accommodations and meals. Classes will be limited to 20 students and for those attending the class, EM-USA will provide FREE tools (specific to the training) that the students can take back to their shop. The overall concept is to combine knowledge, understanding and the “right tools” to grow skill levels while eliminating technical barriers.

The “Masters Training” will be by “invitation only” as EM-USA looks to harness the knowledge and expertise of our leading technicians to help steer future educational classes while teaching them some new skills and techniques.

Sixth annual SEMA Ignited gives enthusiasts an up-close look at the vehicles, products, and celebrities from the trade-only SEMA Show

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. Holly Hill, Fla. – August 28, 2019 – Axxess by Metra Electronics® is now shipping the next generation AX-DSP-X Digital Signal Processor, two plug-n-play packages for Ford A2B amplifiers and two plug-n-play harnesses for Volkswagen. This new series was first announced at CES 2019 to expand and improve the original AX-DSP product line. Compared to the original AX-DSP, the new AX-DSP-X has 10 individually assigned output channels and an option to password protect settings via the Axxess DSP app for phones and tablets. It still includes chime control and digital amplifier turn-on capability, along with all of the other features of the original patented AX-DSP, (which had a 6 channel output without password protection settings). This new product replaces the original AX-DSP and works will all of the existing harnesses.

Complete Tuning Control: Installers will have full control to fine-tune each of the 10 channel outputs individually, controlled via Bluetooth® in the free app. The app makes tuning easy with a 31 band graphic EQ and up to 10ms time delay for each channel, with independent high, low and bandpass filters. Once tuning has been completed, installers can password protect their settings to prevent anyone else from adjusting and the information is stored for future recall.

Retain Features with a Built-in Interface: Utilizing Axxess’s data interface technology, the AX-DSP-X goes beyond what a traditional DSP can do and retains many of the features commonly lost when upgrading a sound system. Voice prompts, parking sensor chimes and other factory chimes are retained with adjustable volume control that many traditional DSPs cannot offer. Libertyville, Ill. – MB Quart has designed a new Marine amplifier line (to our successful NA series) to stand up to the toughest conditions on the water. Nautic Series 3 (known as NA3) Amplifiers are the upgrade to the NA Amplifier line, and they use conformal coated PC boards to protect against the elements.

The Nautic Series 3 line offers 3 choices including a 5 channel amplifier to run a full system (with 4 full range channels) and a 5th channel to power the subwoofer as low as 1 ohm. The 5 channel amplifier includes a bass remote for fine tuning. The NA3 Series includes Sound Contouring, which includes features like bass controls, crossover functions, and gain adjustments among others which are conveniently located on top of the amplifier.

Christopher Simpson comes aboard as Lead Installation Technician

Nashville Meetings Highly Productive for Both Vendors and Distributors

Seattle, Wash. -- August 19, 2019 – From August seventh to August ninth Elite Distributor Alliance (EDA) hosted vendor partners and distributors in downtown Nashville.  This was the fifth annual gathering of the 12 volt distributor focused buying group. 

Attendees gave a fond farewell to founding member George McGoldrick who is retiring and moving to Arizona.

The meetings involved annual planning sessions with the vendor community as well as EDA best practices and growth plans, while “Music City” provided the perfect back drop for occasion.

Josh Eatherly, whose P&E Distributors is headquartered in Nashville, said, “Nashville put on quite the show with great food and entertainment.  I’m thrilled with our membership and vendor community as we come together to plan the future and celebrate accomplishments.”

Good Design Award Winner

Torrance, Calif.– August 16, 2019 – Razo / Car Mate USA the number one distributor of aftermarket vehicle accessories in Japan, has announced the release of the all new dual lens d’Action 360 degree dash camera (DC5000A) for the North American market.  The DC5000A connect seamlessly to a driver’s smartphone for quick camera set-up and video content review.

The DC5000A camera has built-in front and rear facing camera lenses that are capable of recording everything in approximately 4.1 megapixels or 7.3 megapixels. Its recording range is 360 x 360, with viewing angles of 360 degrees horizontally and 360 degrees vertically. d’Action’s unique “Dual-recording” technology automatically crops the front facing footage to record it separately in higher definition (approximately 2.0 megapixels) versus the “360 x 360” view. The small and compact unit is feature packed. It has built-in wireless LAN which allows the camera to quickly connect to a smartphone, and the Sony image sensor helps capture low light situations.  The DC5000A also comes equipped with GPS and a 3 Axis G sensor that when triggered, will create a dedicated “Event” recording file on the memory card.

Drivers can review video footage using the d’Action 360 S smartphone app for iPhones and Androids or download to their PC for easy edit and sharing. The smartphone and PC app have features such as different video viewing angles, vehicle speed, location tracking, and video brightness adjustment.

When paired with the DC201A Parking Option (sold separately), the camera will operate in Parking Mode even when the engine is turned off. After turning off the engine, the camera will keep recording continuously up to 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the camera will automatically switch over to surveillance mode and can operate up to two weeks. The Parking Option allows the camera to capture any possible door dings, scrapes or hit-and-run incidents.
