Reuters -- U.S. job openings surged to a record high in April and small business confidence perked up in May, suggesting the economy was regaining speed after stumbling at the start of the year.

The economy's stronger tone was reinforced by other data on Tuesday showing a solid rise in wholesale inventories in April, in part as oil prices stabilized.

"This is more confirmation that the economy is indeed emerging from that soft patch in the first quarter and can still pick up even faster in the next few months," said Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at MUFG Union Bank in New York.

Job openings, a measure of labor demand, rose 5.2 percent to a seasonally adjusted 5.4 million in April, the highest level since the series began in December 2000, the Labor Department said in its monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS).

Hiring slipped to 5.0 million from 5.1 million in March. Economists say the lag in hiring suggests that employers cannot find qualified workers for the open positions.

The number of unemployed job seekers per open job, a measure of labor market slack, fell to 1.6 in April, the lowest since 2007 and down from 1.7 in March.

"On balance, we read the April JOLTS data as suggesting labor market momentum remains intact in the second quarter and labor market slack continues to diminish," said Jesse Hurwitz, an economist at Barclays in New York.

CNET -- During the keynote presentation at this morning's Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced that CarPlay is going wireless.

As part of its iOS 9 discussion, Apple stated that the next generation of its iOS mobile operating system that powers iPhone devices will bring with it changes to the CarPlay smartphone integration software for automobiles. CarPlay will now feature support for new resolutions, new and more flexible aspect ratios, and higher resolution displays. The next version of CarPlay will also feature the potential for tighter integration with its host vehicle and will be able to tap into automotive data and even control certain functions of the car.

Apple is also cutting the requirement to plug in via Lightning connector. Currently, CarPlay users have to plug their devices into a USB port in the host vehicle via a Lightning cable to gain in-dash control of their smartphones. However, in future cars, iOS users will be able to get in car and connect without taking the phone out of pocket, with the only connection between the device and the auto being a wireless one, presumably Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or both.

Android Headlines -- It does seem increasingly likely that the connected car is going to be one of the next big things in technology. There is a good majority of people that drive their car on a daily basis either because they have to or because they want to. So naturally, if people could be connected there too, they will want to be, right?

Well, according to a new survey from Strategy Analytics, that answer is a little more complex than a simple yes or a no. A recent survey from Strategy Analytics asked consumers if they would be willing to pay extra money to have a Wi-Fi hotspot built into their new car.

According to the survey, 21 percent of U.S. consumers would be willing to pay that extra money. The same survey also points out that the 21 percent is down from the 24 percent that it was in the past. Why this decline in willingness to pay extra money for a connected car in today’s day and age happened, seems to be answered by another Strategy Analytics survey.

Business in Savannah -- Mike Kimball’s family owned Kimball’s Mobile Electronics has been a go-to car audio dealer in Savannah for more than 40 years.

Earlier this year, Kimball and longtime employees Chris Rawlins and Nick Hall put their expertise to use in a different way: They spent more than a month preparing for a toy truck build-off March 21 at Spring Break Nationals at Daytona Beach’s Ocean Center, one of the East Coast’s biggest mobile electronics trade shows.

The toy truck was custom-made and fully loaded by Kimball’s Mobile Electronics and won first place at the competition. After the win, Kimball announced he would donate the toy truck — valued at around $2,000 — to St. Joseph’s/Candler Foundations to be sold to support advancements in cancer care at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion in Savannah.

This initiative will be the biggest charitable contribution Kimball’s Mobile Electronics has had to date.

“We’re really excited about donating to the hospital,” Kimball said. “When we first started to build the toy truck, we didn’t really have a plan to donate it to charity. But then the more the truck came along, the more it seemed like a great idea.”

Kimball’s wife Connie works at J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion and helped inspire the idea.

“We’ve had a lot of close loved ones suffer from cancer. And people at our church,” he said. “Everyone seems to be affected by it in some way or another. This donation seemed like a really good fit.”

Kimball is working with St. Joseph’s/Candler Foundations on an event to raffle off the toy truck.

International Business Times -- Samsung Pay is coming to Samsung smartwatches later this year. The South Korean technology giant is planning to launch a wearable device that can also make mobile payments, according to unnamed sources speaking to the Electronic Times.

The smartwatch -- codenamed Orbis -- will use near-field communication (NFC) technology to facilitate contactless payments. This is the same technology used by Apple Inc. for Apple Pay on its iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch and Google's Android Pay. Samsung Pay was first introduced by the company with the launch of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. But in addition to using NFC, the mobile payment system also uses magnetic secure transmission technology, which works with older credit card payment terminals that don’t have contactless credit card technology built in. Though Samsung uses both technologies in its latest smartphones, it’s unknown if it plans to do the same with its smartwatch as well.

Samsung’s smartwatch isn’t expected to launch until sometime in the second half of the year.

Alpine Electronics will participate in the CMA (Country Music Association) Music Festival, an annual event taking place in downtown Nashville on June 11-14. The event consists of free daytime activities and concerts and is capped off each night with a ticket-only concert featuring the top names from country music.

Randy Davis, a veteran of 25 years in Sales and Marketing for Stillwater Designs® and the KICKER® brand, announced his resignation to company officials as of May 29. Davis and his family will be relocating from Stillwater, Oklahoma to the Fort Collins, Colorado area to be closer to family. A sendoff party was held on his final day at Stillwater Designs in honor of his service to the brand.

Davis was instrumental in coining the KICKER slogan “Livin’ Loud®” after hearing a similar phrase uttered in a movie featuring the Rat Pack. Davis then helped to construct a grassroots marketing plan using action-sports athletes and motocross legends Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael and Travis Pastrana, putting the brand in front of thousands of new consumers.

“There is no doubt KICKER proudly bears the mark of Randy Davis,” said KICKER President Steve Irby. “It’s hard for me to imagine KICKER without Randy, and without question he will be missed.”

He began his work with the KICKER sales team in March 1990 as a regional manager. The AVIC – F970BT has a 6.2-inch multi-touch display and can pair with your iPhone 5 and above to access functions such as Siri, voice navigation, music playback, calls, and messaging on your phone through the audio system display.

In case you are not aware, CarPlay is a new standard from Apple for car audio systems that allows them to seamlessly integrate with your iPhone and access the aforementioned functionality through your audio system’s display. All you have to do is plug in your iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus running iOS 7.1 and above into the system and you’re good to go. You can either use the display on the system or your voice to control the features hands-free while driving.

Mashable -- Sure, Google's in-car software for extending an Android phone to a dashboard has technically been out and proud since the first Android Auto aftermarket systems started shipping in March, but as of Tuesday it's in new cars, too. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata is the first car to offer Android Auto built-in.

Already have a 2015 Sonata? You can update your dashboard software to make Android Auto compatible, although you'll need to take it to a dealership. Hyundai says it'll offer the upgrade as a software download that you can transfer to the car via USB, but it won't come until "later this summer." You'll also need a MyHyundai account to perform the upgrade.

Google formally introduced Android Auto about a year ago at Google I/O 2014. When connected to a compatible Android phone (one running Android 5.0 Lollipop or later) via USB cable, the system will extend certain apps to the dashboard so they're fully integrated with the car's built-in hardware. Google Maps, for instance, becomes the cars navigation software, and audio apps like Spotify play through the sound system.

So, when the talk is important, use these strategies to show you’re strong, capable and ready for anything.

1. Eyes up and alert. Your eyes betray your focus. So, if you’re picking lint from your pants or looking for the exits, you’ll show your interest lies elsewhere and seem dismissive. For maximum engagement, do the physical equivalent of faking it until you make it. Start with the eyes, making solid contact, then nod in assent and raise your eyebrows while you listen. You’ll look alert and interested.

2. Arm yourself. Take note of your arms. Those placed behind you can seem regal and distant, while arms crossed over your chest can seem threatening. To look like a leader, keep your arms relaxed and open, even lacing your fingers together in front of you to seem centered, comfortable and interested.

3. Tall and proud. Where are your shoulders? If they’re over your toes or your lap with your back curved into a C-shape, you’ll seem uncomfortable in your own skin, turning people off. To convey confidence, hold your shoulders over your hips. Point your toes toward the person with whom you’re speaking, not the door, and lean on nothing. Practicing power poses – like superhero stances with your arms akimbo and your legs in an ‘A’ shape – can even help boost confidence before your talk begins.

Alpine Electronics has announced the launch of Alpine Club Restyle, a new retailer program to support the company’s line of X009 9-inch Restyle dash systems.  
Alpine Club Restyle serves to educate authorized Alpine retailers in the U.S. about the X009 Restyle dash systems and reward them for their sales success.  The program makes use of the multiple sales and installation videos made by Alpine to educate retail sales staff and installers about the various features of each X009 system.  There is a sales video and an installation video for each of the seven vehicle specific X009 systems.  Each sales video depicts a retail scenario related to the featured X009 model, while the corresponding installation video explains installation instructions specific to that X009 model.
To become an Alpine Club Restyle member, a salesperson or installer needs to watch all seven videos in their applicable tract (sales or installation), then pass the corresponding online test.  Once they sell or install one X009 Restyle dash system from this point, they become a Tier 1 member of Alpine Club Restyle.  Tier 1 members receive a membership package featuring an Alpine Club Restyle shirt, hat and certificate confirming their product expertise.  Members are also rewarded when they reach certain milestones.  Members who sell or install three systems are considered Tier 2 status and receive an Alpine Club Restyle jacket.  To reach Tier 3 status, members must sell or install five systems, and they will receive a pair of Alpine headphones.  A dedicated website – – houses all of the videos and online tests.  
In addition to the gifts available at each tier level, members who sell or install X009 Restyle dash system(s) during select promotional periods will also receive $50 for each qualifying unit.  The inaugural promotional period began on May 15, 2015 and ends on July 14, 2015.  As a special bonus, the top ten members identified at the end of the current promotional period will receive an all expenses paid trip to Alpine’s Restyle Summit, which will be held in August in Dallas, TX.

The X009 Restyle dash systems come with the X009, a multi-function unit with audio, video, navigation and Bluetooth® wireless technology controlled through the distinctive 9-inch touch screen.  The systems are packaged with a vehicle specific dash kit that features back-lit hard keys which replace the factory radio knobs and an iDatalink Maestro module to retain factory features.  There are seven vehicle specific Restyle dash systems which are compatible with the Jeep Wrangler, select GM trucks/SUVs, select Ford F-150s, Ram trucks and Toyota Tundra.  The eighth model is a universal fit version for custom installations.
