During the China International Auto Products Expo (CIAPE) held last week at the NECC, the World’s largest exhibition complex, IASCA President Paul Papadeas was summoned to officiate at a four day IASCA China SQ event. In addition to worldwide automobile brands, CIAPE exhibits a plethora of manufacturers of industrial machinery and heavy equipment. Primarily featured as a trade show, the event is also open to consumers on one of the four days. Within the CIAPE event, the China Auto Modification Accessories Association (CAMAA) maintains a huge section for all things in the automotive modification aftermarket.

Executing its commitment to promote mobile electronics to both the trade and consumers, IASCA Worldwide and its Pan-Asian Director Samuel Tan, coordinated with IASCA China President Jordorn Xie and CAMAA to host the “IASCA MASTERS SOUND QUALITY RACE” This championship competition drew more than 80 “best of the best” finalists from all over the country with many competitors and enthusiasts driving several days to reach the show. Four days of championship judging ensued with IASCA Certified Officials from China, Singapore and Taiwan evaluating some of the country’s top Sound Quality vehicles. Attendance was amazing and spectators had a great opportunity to experience great Auto Sound.

“It had been 10 years since my last trip to an IASCA China competition”, Papadeas said, “The degree of professionalism and installation prowess has increased dramatically. There also was great emphasis on cosmetics as well, with many of the vehicles decked out with custom fabrication and LED lighting features”. Several brands of auto sound were represented through Chinese Dealers and Distributors including elettromedia, Arc Audio, Audiopipe, JL Audio and more. Next year’s event is already in the planning stage with expansion to incorporate more floor space indoors and the addition of an outdoor exhibit and competition of Performance Sound Systems in the revised format: ISQPlus.

“I’m proud to carry on IASCA’S commitment to proliferate the industry worldwide” Papadeas continues, “I’m also pleased to see that Brand participation in these international trade/consumer events go to great lengths to help accomplish our collective promotional goals. To that end, it troubles me to see, that in all my travels, the Brand support at international events is so much greater than it is here in North America, the continent that sets the stage for our industry’s future”.

IT Pro Portal -- Just because you speak the same language as someone else, it doesn’t mean you pronounce your words in the same way.

There are so many regional variations of English that it can be difficult for a person born and raised in one area of a country to understand the accent of someone born and raised just a few hundred miles away.

SEE ALSO: Illegal downloaders to receive email warnings, as Pirate Bay traffic doubles

I’ve watched TV shows where people speaking perfectly good English have been subtitled because they have a really strong accent that not everyone can follow.

If people struggle to comprehend other people, you can only imagine the problems machines have with these variations. If you’ve ever spent time repeating the same set of words or commands in a variety of accents in an effort to have a piece of software understand and respond to you, you’ll appreciate what I’m saying.

The problem of not being understood by voice activated technology is particularly problematic in cars. When driving your focus should be on the road rather than trying to get your vehicle to recognise your request to place a call or play a music track.

Thankfully, Ford has a solution in the form of its global voice-activated SYNC Technology which responds to local accents. It can understand accents from Bavarian German to Liverpudlian English in 17 languages. The driver only has to say a few words, and accent will be recognised and remembered (should another driver use the vehicle the system will update a saved file to recognise their voice).

How To Plan For The Next Five Years

Monday, 28 September 2015

Entrepreneur -- Where do you see yourself in five years? Will you be a workaholic on Wall Street, living the simple life in America’s heartland or will you be a successful entrepreneur with a million-dollar business? If you are reading this article, I am guessing your answer is the latter.

While trendy strategies come and go, there is no substitute for classic goal setting. Here are a few tried-and-true tactics to propel your business to success.

Review your goals every day.

Goal setting is like getting on the scale -- you’ll see greater success if you do it every morning. As entrepreneurs, dreaming big is standard practice. The distinguishing factor between the big dreamers and the big doers is that the doers take action.

“Sometimes our biggest life goals seem so overwhelming. We rarely see them as a series of small, achievable tasks,” writes Jack Canfield in his book, The Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.“But in reality, breaking down a large goal into smaller tasks -- and accomplishing them one at a time -- is exactly how any big goal gets achieved.”

Programmable Web -- At last week's Ford Developer Conference, Ford announced that its new SYNC 3 platform would include an API open to the developer community. API access to the platform will allow developers to build apps that integrate with SYNC 3 enabled vehicles. SYNC 3 enabled vehicles include features such as voice recognition, touch screen, and more.

Ford named the technology that allows app-vehicle communication AppLink. AppLink allows the app developer community to integrate with SYNC 3 enabled vehicles with voice control and allows apps to appear on a vehicle's SYNC screen. Ford first rolled out a developer program in 2013. Since the initial launch, over 90 smartphone compatible apps have been developed for AppLink. The latest release should only increase that number.

AutoMobility has developed an online tool for remote start retailers, enabling them to select make, model, and year of a vehicle in order to let them know the data bus manufacturer’s product compatibility, if an analog remote starter is required, T-harness availability, remote control and telematics compatibility for that specific vehicle.

“There are three manufacturers of automotive data bus kits, it is confusing for installers and sales people to know what is the best solution for a particular vehicle, especially on newer vehicles where many times an analog remote start is not required, this on line tool will take a lot of guessing out of the process and cut down on tech support calls especially during the busiest times of the year,” said Rob Nelson, president of AutoMobility.

AutoMobility is Canada's largest mobile electronics distributor. Headquartered in Montreal, along with offices and warehousing facilities in Toronto and Vancouver, customers benefit from complete national sales support and expedited shipping.

Since 1991, AutoMobility has been servicing mass merchants, consumer electronics and wireless retailers, as well as 12V specialty and new car dealerships. Its mission is to offer the most technologically advanced devices and accessories in vehicle remote start and security, radar detection, mobile video, dash cam, and audio sectors.

LV-HB55 Hydroblast Washer Fluid Heating System

The Hydroblast unit is designed to enhance the driver’s all-season safety and convenience by increasing overall performance of a vehicle washer system. The unit works with virtually all existing washer/wiper systems. The Hydroblast is connected, in-line, with the existing windshield washer hose at a point between the washer pump and washer nozzles, and then mounted in any direction. This system only requires power and ground connections, so that you do not have to splice into the heating system. It works with the existing washer fluid switch. Once the unit is activated the washer fluid inside its heating chamber will be heated and kept within pre-determined temperature limit of 140 degrees F (60 degrees C), so there is always hot fluid inside the unit’s heating chamber which can be used by a driver for cleaning and de-icing the windshield. MSRP: $199.00

BSD-754 Universal Front and Rear Blind Spot Detection System

The BSD-754 is a blind spot detection system designed for use on most vehicles. The system uses four sensors (two front and two rear) to cover all four corners of the vehicle. When the turn signals are activated, the BSD-754 will activate and if there is a vehicle in any of your blind spots, the sensors will pick up the vehicle and alert the driver with two LED indicators as well as audible tones from a buzzer inside the vehicle. The BSD system works well for all applications such as driving down city streets or highways, parking or making simple turns. MSRP: $229.95

SV-9164 OEM Replacement Style Mirror with 4.3-inch LCD Screen and Built-in Parking Assist

The SV-9164 is a replacement style rear view mirror that will not only give the driver a 4.3-inch monitor to view a backup camera, that is included but also comes with a full rear parking assist system to let the driver know how close they are coming to a potential hazard. The mirror comes included with a 170 degree back-up camera and four ultrasonic sensors that mount in the rear bumper. The mirror's screen will display the camera as well as the sensor distance readings when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. MSRP: $349.95

Crimestopper remote start systems to be featured at the 2015 SEMA Show include:

RS2-G3 2-Way Single-Button Remote Start System

The RS2-G3 is a 2-way remote start and keyless entry system that uses a single button transmitter for operation at a range of up to 2.500 ft. The transmitter’s single button operates the remote start and keyless entry of the vehicle using different button sequences. There are two remotes for the system, the 2-way LED remote which will confirm remote start and keyless entry by lighting up a series of LEDs on the top of the remote, and a 1-way companion remote. MSRP: $199.95

Crimestopper’s full line of remote start and remote start alarm systems are compatible with Fortin and ADS integration modules in full 2-way data mode.

ARMORZ Inc., one of the premier leaders in the mobile accessories industry, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in order to introduce its newest product. This campaign has a funding goal of $20,000, which needs to be raised in order to bring “TAP” to market. TAP is an intelligent screen protector that is designed to enhance the iPhone experience while providing nearly indestructible protection.

The idea for TAP started when the engineers at ARMORZ heard the exciting news that a new version of the iPhone was going to be unveiled in October 2015. The new phone is bigger and better, but the bigger size also comes with even more operating problems for users.

The creators at ARMORZ state, “TAP is the world's first intelligent screen protector for the new iPhone 2015. It is geared for one hand use of the iPhone. We use the latest technology to gain better access to the iPhone's critical features. It improves screen sensitivity and allows for more nimble navigation. Get where you're going faster and more conveniently!”

TAP by ARMORZ is scratch and impact resistant, and comes in sizes to fit iPhone 6, 6+, and the yet to be released iPhone. TAP offers two button precision touch navigation, heightened touch sensitivity, and one handed operation of the iPhone in order to provide a user with better efficiency and quicker operation.

One of the best aspects of TAP is that no App or jailbreak are required to access the features, it is a simple “plug and play” operation. TAP is .2mm thick and made of 9H hardness scratch resistant tempered gorilla glass with an oleophobic coating to provide superior fingerprint and smudge resistance.

The team at ARMORZ has been hard at work with all of the essential groundwork for TAP, and they are now ready to bring it to market which is why they have launched their Kickstarter campaign. They have finalized their prototype design, and are ready to launch the full manufacture phase with a projected shipping date of October 2015 for their earliest supporters and November 2015 for the remainder of the early supporters as well as distributors. All supporters of this campaign have the opportunity to pre-order TAP by ARMORZ at a substantial savings off of regular retail price. This screencover can be ordered from a single protector to a multi-pack of ten units. Full details can be found on their Kickstarter campaign page.

Detroit News -- Two senators are pressing automakers to answer questions about cybersecurity issues in the wake of the industry’s first ever recalls for hacking risks.

Sens. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., sent expanded questions to 18 automakers asking for an update to the information on each “company’s protections against the threat of cyberattacks or unwarranted invasions of privacy related to the integration of electronic systems into and within automobiles.”

They also want automakers to disclose “any changes to their vehicle fleet or characteristics, policies, practices and experiences that may have occurred since the company first responded to Senator Markey’s original letter” in 2013.

The Alliance of Automobile Manufactuers — the trade group representing Detroit's Big Three automakers, Toyota Motor Corp., Volkswagen AG and others --said the industry is responding.

"Advanced computing and connectivity are critical components of vehicle safety systems, and they are also critical to innovative technologies that provide societal benefits such as reduced traffic congestion and decreased environmental footprints. The auto industry is working to keep pace with the dynamic nature of cyber threats by incorporating security by design, developing internal expertise, and cultivating procedural and operational partnerships with organizations specializing in cyber defense,"Alliance spokesman wade Newton said. "By year's end the industry expects to establish an Auto industry Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC) facilitating the exchange of important threat information -- and countermeasures -- in real time."

KICKER Performance Audio announces that Q-Class interactive displays featuring KICKER L7 Subwoofers, QS-Series Components and IQ-Series Amplifiers are shipping nationwide, and Authorized Q-Class Dealers are already receiving them. These displays are built to educate and entertain consumers across the country.

KICKER has engineered an experience as entertaining as it is informative – a display not only active, but interactive. KICKER Q-Class amplifiers, subwoofers and separates are included in the towering seven-foot display which boasts 1,500 watts of RMS power. It also features a large LCD screen with interactive videos directly linked to buttons on the board.

Kip Litsey is the Associate Marketing Director of Business-to-Business for KICKER and the primary architect of the interactive displays.

“It’s hard to give an accurate, presentable demo because you don’t always know what source you’re starting with,” Litsey said. “We use an uncompressed ‘.wav’ file, and with no head unit in the system, so you know you’re always getting the same experience every single time. If someone wants to use their own music in the display, we include the (KICKER) IQI™ module (a Bluetooth® accessory to KICKER IQ-Series Amplifiers) to pair a phone or tablet and stream their own music.”

Through market research and retailer feedback, KICKER recognized that salesmen and consumers alike often found themselves a victim of inconsistent displays. Whether it’s from altered audio settings, inconsistent volume levels or a lack of relevant on-hand information, the negative experience seemed as undesirable as it was avoidable.

The display’s system prompts the user to select from several different styles of high-resolution music stored within. The user’s selection and the next available song is then displayed on-screen. While videos are playing, a side window on the LCD screen shows relevant “factoids” about the product being displayed, all in high definition. A button press changes the show completely, allowing the viewer to experience several consumer-friendly training videos.

The display is equipped with an IQ1000.1 Mono Amplifier powering a pair of 12-inch L7 Subwoofers for bass. It also includes an IQ500.4 Four-Channel Amplifier, powering two sets of QS-Series 6-3/4-inch component speakers.

To adjust the sound quality, the display also includes the KICKER IQRC Remote, which comes standard with Q-Class mono amplifiers. The remote allows the user to adjust both amplifier levels and equalizer settings.

When not in active use, the display also acts as a “silent salesman” running Q-Class demo videos non-stop and inviting the customer to press the “Demo” button. The entire production is fully interactive with KICKER TWEEQ software, a standard feature of IQ-Series Amplifiers. It can be accessed via USB or Bluetooth, making for an easy demonstration of the system’s full potential.

Craig McGinnis of Metro Audio Dynamics in Omaha, Neb., was one of the first to receive the selling tool.

“Our sales guys think it’s great,” McGinnis stated. “What they love the most are the actual informational videos on it. Instead of wondering about the difference between the old (Solo-Baric®) L7 and the new Q-Class L7, we just pull up that video and boom – there it is. They watch that video and know why the new one is a way better woofer.

“That display is the statement piece for that section of the store. We’re selling more KICKER than anything else right now. We have it right in the front as you walk in, so customers immediately see this huge blue display. People go over there and start playing with it, so it works perfectly for us.”

The Q-Class display is currently in 100 dealers’ stores nationwide, and is available for order from KICKER Sales Representatives or Regional Coordinators at the factory. A sister display for KICKER’s Marine line is also available.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced programming updates for the second annual CEA Innovate! conference. This two-day conference is poised to once again bring together innovative minds in the industry to lead engaging panels and sessions.

The event will feature luncheon keynote addresses from Mark Randall, serial entrepreneur and chief strategist, vice president of creativity at Adobe and David Pogue , founding editor-in-chief, Yahoo Tech and host of PBS' NOVA ScienceNow.

Thought leaders from Canary, Digital Trends, CEB Iconoculture Consumer Insights, Dundee Venture Capital, Indiegogo, KeepUp, Phone2Action and TransLink Capital will also take the Innovate! stage to talk all things innovation.
