Entrepreneur -- Stress is one of the most common problems that is relevant amongst virtually all entrepreneurs and founders. Without a doubt, starting and growing a new company can be emotionally brutal in the beginning, and even after you’ve become established, there will always be stresses that a CEO has to deal with.
Being able to manage that stress and not allow it to choke you is critical. It’s critical to clear decision-making, sound judgment and maintaining a strong morale among your team.

Here are five ways to keep your stress in check when the stakes are high:
1. Have an alternate place to channel your energy.
Many top entrepreneurs have a secondary activity they engage in that allows them to channel their energy and aggression to relieve stress. Some play sports such as golf or tennis. Some race cars. Some even like recreational shooting such as archery or skeet shooting.
Even if your alternate channel is just going to the gym for an hour or running for 30 minutes, find an outlet to help shift your focus every now and then and channel your energy somewhere else.
2. Meditate for just two minutes in the morning.
Entrepreneurs lead such hectic chaotic lives that we rarely get downtime to just unwind, clear our minds or reflect. Oftentimes, even our quiet moments are spent thinking about our agenda or the latest fire we are putting out.
Taking a period even as short as two minutes early every morning to do nothing but count your breaths will clear your mind, relieve some pressure and leave you feeling refreshed. The toughest part is actually getting your mind to go silent and blank for two whole minutes. It takes practice, but it works.

3. Break your day into 30- to 60-minute blocks.
Everyone knows to plan their day out in advance by writing their to-do list the night before. But even still, looking at your jam-packed to-do list each morning and wondering how you will fit it all in can stress any of us out.
What I’ve found helps a lot is breaking your entire day down into blocks of 30- to 60-minutes, and then organizing all of your to-do list items into the time blocks. This shows you on paper that you will get it all done that day and makes taking the first step easier.
The Telegraph -- Apple's chief executive has given the latest sign that the iPhone maker is planning an assault on the car industry, saying there is a "massive change" in the market.
Tim Cook did not comment on numerous rumours and reports that Apple is preparing to build its own car, but suggested that it could make further strides into the market beyond its current, limited, efforts.
"It would seem like there will be massive change in that industry, massive change," Cook said at the Wall Street Journal's WSJDLive conference in California. "You may not agree with that. That’s what I think.
"When I look at the automobile, what I see is that software becomes an increasingly important part of the car of the future. You see that autonomous driving becomes much more important."
His comments come after widespread reports that Apple is preparing to follow fellow tech giant Google in developing a self-driving or electric car. It is reportedly preparing to put one on sale as early as 2019, but safety and testing regulations mean it would have to make such plans public well before then.

Reuters -- Car owners and security experts can tinker with automobile software without incurring some U.S. copyright liability, according to new guidelines issued this month that had been opposed by the auto industry.
The Library of Congress, which oversees the U.S. Copyright Office, agreed with fair use advocates who argued that vehicle owners are entitled to modify their cars, which often involves altering software.
Automakers including General Motors Co, and other vehicle manufacturers such as Deere & Co, opposed the rules. They said vehicle owners could visit authorized repair shops for changes they may need to undertake.
However, U.S. copyright officials decided that altering computer programs for vehicle repair or modification may not infringe a manufacturer's software copyright. A GM representative referred to a statement from an industry group that said the new rules would weaken safety innovation.
Deere spokesman Ken Golden said the company stands by its earlier opposition. However, some systems that transmit data from the vehicle to Deere could still be protected by copyright, Golden said.
Security researchers also pushed for copyright liability protection because computer programs are "pervasive" in modern machines and devices, including vehicles, home appliances and medical devices.
"We are pleased that analysts will now be able to examine the software in the cars we drive without facing legal threats from car manufacturers," said Kit Wilson, a staff attorney for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which advocated for the rule changes.
The new rules must be renewed in three years, Wilson said. Vehicle owners still cannot perform other activities that would violate an automaker's copyright, he said, like extracting code and selling it.
Some U.S. government agencies expressed serious reservations about the new rules, and the Environmental Protection Agency flatly opposed them.
"EPA explained that vehicle modifications are often performed to increase engine power or boost fuel economy, but that these modifications increase vehicle emissions and thus violate the Clean Air Act," the Library of Congress said in its final rule.
However, the new rules do not allow vehicle owners to break any other laws, the Library said, and will not take effect for a year so the EPA and other agencies have time to prepare.
KICKER Performance Audio is excited to announce new gear, awesome displays and celebrity signings at the 2015 SEMA Show. KICKER will be located in the North Hall, booth number 11861.
The KICKER booth will display show vehicles of several genres as well as new product releases. The 42-year-old audio company will feature the Goodguys Rod Association Custom-of-the-Year, a 1956 Continental Mark II with a full KICKER Q-Class audio system. Also showcased will be Big Homie Customs’ (Las Vegas, Nev.) latest bike build – a Harley-Davidson Road Glide packed with KICKER PX-Series Amplifiers, subwoofers and more.
More highlights:
- KICKER VSS (Vehicle-Specific Solutions) Factory Upgrades will be represented in the booth by a 2015 Chevy Colorado demonstrator equipped with a full PowerStage audio system. VSS allows sedans and trucks to significantly upgrade a factory audio system without changing the factory speakers or radio. Both VSS PowerStage and SubStage Upgrades come complete with amplification, custom bracketry and pre-terminated wiring, cut to the exact length needed for the vehicle.
- In addition to the bike build from Big Homie Customs, KICKER’s Powersports line of PX-Series Amplifiers, PS-Series Speakers and thin-mount CompRT® Subwoofers will be shown. When it comes to audio gear for motorcycles, KICKER knows that its Powersports offerings should be lightweight, loud and draw very little current. KICKER seeks to show how those products sound great while wearing a helmet, and how they stand up to the elements.
- KICKER’s Q-Class of amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers and processors will also be on display. Flagship IQ-Series Amplifiers marry the efficiency of Class D with TWEEQ processing – the most advanced tuning software in the industry, along with CompQ and L7 square subwoofers that deliver a level of volume, accuracy and detail normally reserved for significantly more expensive subwoofers.
- The KICKER Marine line will feature KM-Series Coaxial Speakers and Subwoofers with new chrome LED grilles for fun and excitement on the water, along with brand-new sizes and colors of Empty Tower Enclosures to house the drivers.
During the Show Wednesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws will make appearances in the booth and sign autographs. Available will be Big Chief, Murder Nova, Chuck, Monza, Daddy Dave and Kamikaze.

Entrepreneur.com -- I have a law degree, Masters of Business Administration and an economics undergraduate degree. But none of this formal education taught me how to generate demand and have a sales conversation. You can hang a sales sign or banner outside of your store, but none of those techniques puts you in the position of authority that’s needed to have an effective sales conversation. Authority is built one message at a time.
In July of 2002, I joined Infusionsoft. My primary responsibility was bringing in sales, but I also did strategy, finance, marketing, bookkeeping, janitorial services and a host of other tasks. I had many different roles because, like every startup, I needed to wear any and every hat that was necessary to keep the business going.
My sales hat kept me busy most of the day. I'd spend countless hours prospecting for leads, getting them to finally answer their phones and then chase them for weeks. I felt like I was in a never-ending battle for survival, which put me in a really bad position to negotiate. Over time, I learned that effective sales conversations happen when people chase you, so I began to make the shift from salesperson to an authoritative advisor. Here are the things I've learned:
Related: The 15 Characteristics of People Who Succeed at Sales
1. The manual sales process wastes time and money.
Spending time prospecting on social and spamming people who don't care to talk to you wastes time and money. The manual sales method that your parents passed down to you doesn't work effectively. Moving away from manual sales processes takes time, but is well worth the effort.
Most of my first year at Infusionsoft was spent knee-deep in sales and marketing. I used pay-per-click advertising to attract interest of potential customers. They’d click an ad, fill out a form on our website and I’d be notified that I had a lead. I’d then get on the phone as fast as possible to begin the sales conversation.
During the first call, I would diligently work to identify customer problems and educate them on the power of our software. More often than not, I would spend hours on the phone over weeks or months to close a sale. I used our customer relationship management functionality to keep track of the conversations and organize them based on how far they had gone in the sales process. Occasionally, I would send emails one by one to follow up after the call.
I used and perfected this manual sales process for over a year and was making slow, steady progress in the business. But, I didn't feel successful. I was wasting a lot of time chasing leads that didn’t care to talk to me. My conversations weren’t powerful or effective and didn’t leave me in a good position to negotiate. My sales weren't as large as I needed them to be and I had to figure out a way to get the phone to ring without so much effort.

NY Times -- It is not every day you get to open a door and step into the future.
But to pull the handle on a newly updated Tesla Model S this week and slide into the driver’s seat was to catch a glimpse of the auto industry’s plans to soon let cars drive us, rather than the other way around.
The updated Tesla, an already high-tech electric car that starts at about $75,000, was equipped with what the company calls Autopilot — a semiautonomous feature that allows hands-free, pedal-free driving on the highway under certain conditions. The car will even change lanes autonomously at the driver’s request (by hitting the turn signal) and uses sensors to scan the road in all directions and adjust the throttle, steering and brakes.
It is the first time that a production vehicle available to consumers will have such advanced self-driving capabilities. Or more to the point, the first time they will be unleashed for driving 70 miles per hour along twisty, though clearly marked, highways for long stretches. (Other manufacturers like Volvo and Mercedes-Benz recently introduced their own semiautonomous features, but limit the functions to lower speeds or require the driver to constantly touch the wheel.) And it’s perfectly legal. Among the states, only New York has any law prohibiting hands-free driving.
Thursday morning, Tesla owners woke up to discover that their vehicles can wirelessly download the new autopilot feature as a software update. That means the next time you see a Model S cruising next to you on the interstate, look closely: It may be driving itself.
Autopilot is not free (the download costs $2,500), and it is not yet perfected (clear lane markings are needed, and bad weather can affect its abilities), but it works remarkably well under normal circumstances.
The feeling of gliding autonomously through highway traffic initially feels a bit unnerving, especially on the Washington area’s notoriously congested roads. But on a recent afternoon while testing Tesla’s autopilot, that feeling faded as I began to trust the car to keep its lane along the twisty highway that hugs the Potomac River in Virginia.
One of the most soothing aspects of the system was how natural the steering felt through the turns. To mimic a human driver is one of the big challenges automakers face in designing self-driving cars. That is because computers can be so perfect that they may constantly adjust to stay exactly in the middle of a lane, resulting in a lot of little jerky motions of the wheel that feels unnatural. Not the Tesla. It was silky smooth.
That does not mean, of course, that drivers can simply relax and let their minds wander. The car is skilled at keeping its lane, but when lane markings disappear or are significantly faded, you have to take over.
Similarly, when heading through construction zones, or when traffic is merging, the human driver is wise to keep full control. If you are in the right lane of a highway and cars are merging at slower speeds, most drivers want to move over a lane and go around them. But the Tesla does not know that. It will instead automatically slow to match the slower speeds of the merging cars.

Next Avenue -- Sheryl Connelly is a futurist for Ford Motor Co., scanning the world for trends that will change the way we live and drive. She has been described as the Faith Popcorn of the auto industry and credited with keeping her company producing the right types of vehicles at just the right time.
The big trend happening before our eyes, she says, is the rise in the number of older people across the globe, which has major implications for getting around. “That’s ‘Trends 101,’” says Connelly, who studied finance before earning an MBA and a law degree.
MoreNew Auto Technology Helps Drivers With Limitation
For many who are elderly now, being able to drive is essential to remaining home and maintaining independence. Their kids — the boomers who are causing the global demographic shift — don’t relish having to take away the car keys. Nor do they want the keys taken from them in the future. “They’re not likely to give up their autonomy and independence easily,” Connelly notes.
So Ford, along with other car companies, has put millions of dollars and years of research into figuring out how to keep current and future populations of elderly people driving safely. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the risk of being hurt or killed in a car accident rises with age, and as the over-65 population rises, the problem will get worse. But t high-tech features that auto companies are developing counter physical and mental changes that can happen with aging.
MoreWhat Pretending to Be an Older Driver Taught Me
Designed For Elderly And Working For Everyone
Since many of Ford’s engineers are young, to build their empathy as they build cars, these pros sometimes wear a Third Age Suit, a head-to-toe coverall that simulates what it’s like to be 60, 70 or 80.
The risk of being hurt or killed in a car accident rises with age, and as the over-65 population rises, the problem will get worse.
“It comes with glasses to mimic the effects of glaucoma, gloves that make you lose sensitivity and dexterity and braces around the neck, knees and elbow — you calibrate the tension and feel the restricted movement that comes with aging,” Connelly says. “Medical science tells us that aging brings slower response time, a limited range of motion and impaired vision. The suit tells us what that experience is like.”
Much of what automakers have already developed is being marketed for convenience. As with so many things meant to help the elderly, these solutions use universal design principles that help everyone.
Now, cars may come with voice-activation systems that let drivers keep their hands on the steering wheel; cameras to see behind the bumper; cross-traffic and blind-spot alerts or a steering wheel that vibrates if a driver crosses a lane. There are cars with parallel parking skills, laser headlights for optimal visibility and even sensors to measure if a parking slot is big enough for your vehicle before the car steers itself in to it.
“These sensors and technology are all steps to get us closer to autonomous vehicles,” Connelly says. “Right now, all of the technology exists to make self-driving cars.”

Brandmotion LLC, leading developer of driver safety and collision avoidance systems for the automotive aftermarket, introduced the third generation of its Curb-Alert front-end proximity sensor. Curb-Alert's ability to detect distance from curbs, parking blocks and other objects has saved vehicle owners thousands of dollars in bumper and fascia repairs. However, the newest version—Curb-Alert Park View PRO—allows the user to see, as well as be alerted to, obstacles with a camera that automatically shows the front view through a factory or aftermarket in-vehicle display.
"Carmakers have validated the benefits of front-view cameras, and as a result, current vehicle owners want to add front-vision safety to their vehicles as well,” said Jeff Varick, president of Brandmotion. "To date, the only aftermarket options available require the user manually activate them, an additional step that adds to driver distraction. The Curb-Alert Park View PRO is the first aftermarket front-vision system that automatically turns on when a driver is close to an object, and the there are no switches to install or flip. It delivers a truly integrated experience that lets the driver focus on safe maneuvering.”
The Curb-Alert Park View PRO features a small, weatherproof sensor that mounts beneath the bumper, along with a high-resolution camera that provides a wide-angled view of the area in front of the vehicle. The patented system can be customized to the vehicle and driver preference with an adjustable sensing distance of between 12 and 28 inches. Once an object is detected, the Curb-Alert Park View PRO beeps an audible alert and triggers a connected radio display or monitor to turn on for 10 seconds. The display can be configured during installation to show park grid lines to aid in maneuvering.
While Curb Alert Park View PRO connects directly to any aftermarket display with RCA-type inputs, the automatic functionality of the system makes it an ideal add-on for vehicles that have a factory radio display. Brandmotion's new dual camera interfaces, made for select Ford, Chrysler and GM vehicles, enable a factory display to connect to both front and rear aftermarket cameras, or add a front camera and maintain the factory rear camera. Each is sold separately:
• Part No. 9002-2780 – Ford vehicles with 4” MyFord display; MSRP $389.95
• Part No. 9002-2781 – Ford vehicles with 8” MyTouch display; MSRP $429.95
• Part No. 9002-2782 – Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge vehicles with 6.1” MyGig display; MSRP $389.95
• Part No. 9002-2783 – Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge vehicles with 8.4” and 5” display; MSRP $429.95
• Part No. 9002-2763 – GM vehicles; MSRP $599.95
"Curb-Alert started as a favorite for Corvette owners who wanted to avoid damage to their cherished cars. A small curb tap on a Z06 can cost as much as $4,000 to repair," added Varick. "Now, anyone who is anxious about how close they can park to a garage wall or curb can have an automatic set of eyes to guide them, every day and every time they park." The Curb Alert Park View PRO has an MSRP of $249.95, and is available and shipping, along with the new dual-camera interface systems, to authorized Brandmotion retailers.
