Cooler more powerful intake charge for improved engine performance

Avon Lake, OH (October 26, 2016)…DEI’s CryO2 Intercooler Sprayer Kit harnesses the super cooling cryogenic properties of CryO2 to dramatically lower intake charge temperatures for more horsepower at lower long term cost than nitrous. Less expensive to purchase and refill than nitrous, this cost effective alternative for a boost in HP can be used for any vehicle including diesels that could use more power for the buck. A non-invasive system, it enhances the thermal transfer ability of the intercooler to lower air temperatures as much as 35% and as low as 50°F.

For turbo or supercharged systems, the sprayer mounts directly to the front of the intercooler and vents CO2 directly onto the cooling fins. The system can be configured to be activated by either a full WOT micro-switch, or controlled manually with a momentary push button. The complete bolt-on kit now offers an optional CryO2 adjustable duration timer switch (Part # 080203) for automatic on/off pulsing and a water sprayer kit (Part # 080140) for even greater I/C efficiency.

October 20th, 2016 -- The IASCA North American Championships, known as INAC, was once again a huge success. Held at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, KY, the event brought in close to 70 SQ competitors and more than 100 IASCA SPL competitors from across the continent. With close to 300 registrations in IASCA Sound Quality, Installation Quality, IdBL and Bass Boxing competition, the judging team was working hard through the 2 days of the event.

Special thanks go out to all the IASCA Judges who worked diligently through the weekend. In SQC and IQC competition, the team comprised of Head Judge Travis Chin (WA), Keith Turner (VA), Tim Goudy (AR), John Sketoe (AR), Jeff Smith (GA) and Christerfer Pate (TX). The IASCA SPL Judging team consisted of Head Judge Aaron Dunkle (FL), Tony Economou (FL), Scott Sinde (IL) and Brandon Rosser (MI). Thanks also go out to the registration and administration team, including Kim Sabourin (FL), Terry Floyd (AL), Kim Cook (AL) and the Judges spouses, Chelsea, Elizabeth and Jessica who also helped out with set up and worked hard at the show over the weekend.

“Once again, our team did a great job and we are extremely proud of them” said Moe Sabourin, Director of Operations for IASCA Worldwide “One of the toughest jobs in car audio competition is being a judge; most Judges know the competitors and have great friendships with them. When you’re judging, you have to turn off the friendship and focus on the rules, and ensure that everyone is following them. That’s not always an easy task when there’s so much passion and intensity in the lanes.”

“This was our fifth year being part of the Unified Finals Championship.” Sabourin continued to say, “Working with great people like Wayne and Celise Harris from dB Drag Racing and Steve Stern from MECA, along with their judging teams, has proven to industry that our collective goal is the betterment of our industry; we’re proud to be part of the event. From the orgs to our industry members who supported us, we are looking forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come.”

Supporting the event were industry members from all forms of car audio and competition, including:

    • Alphard Sound Technology (Title Sponsor)
    • AAMP of America (Stinger, Phoenix Gold)
    • Beyma
    • Boom Mat (Design Engineering Inc.)
    • DD Audio
    • Full River Battery

    • Ohio Generator
    • XS Power
    • Dad’s Custom Car Audio (Retail Dealer, Louisville, KY)

10-24-2016 -- In response to learning about one of its customer's success in receiving only two speeding tickets in 14 years of using its Laser Defuser and K40 dual receiver radar detector, K40 has announced its new "High Mileage Club". The club is exclusively for K40 customers that have traveled at least 200,000 miles while using a K40 product.

The following is the story of how this club came to be, taken directly from the K40 website:

"If you’re familiar with K40 Electronics, you know that we’re dedicated to making customers for life. We like to think that’s the result of offering high performance, high quality products backed by a superlative level of service for over three decades.

"In return, our customers’ loyalty spans years…and apparently their mileage runs just as long. Case in point, we were recently contacted by Tony B. from California to discuss what kind of K40 protection system we would recommend for his 2016 F-350 truck. During the course of conversation, Tony revealed that he had a K40 in his current work truck and our protection system served him well for many years. When we probed into that history, we were blown away.

"Tony had Walnut Creek Auto Radio (now known as Walnut Creek Customs, a premier car customizer in Northern California) install a K40 dual receiver radar detector and a Laser Defuser into his 2002 Ford F-250 in June 2002. After 14 years and – get this – 663,475 miles driven, Tony only got TWO SPEEDING TICKETS. But wait, the story gets better. The first ticket was received the day after the installation because there was a loose connection that the installer subsequently fixed! The second ticket was received because one of Tony’s children turned off the system unbeknownst to him. So, it’s fair to say that for over a decade and half a million miles, K40 truly kept Tony ticket-free!

'“I had originally heard about K40 from a friend who had a BMW. Being in the construction business, I spend a lot of time in the driver’s seat on all sorts of roads, but mostly highway. So I knew I needed the best police radar protection available,' said Tony. 'Then my wife started getting tickets in her Audi, so we had a K40 system put in that car too and it also worked flawlessly and kept her ticket-free as long as we owned that vehicle.' Because of his satisfaction with both K40 and our authorized dealer, Tony has informed us he’s visiting Walnut Creek Customs to discuss having our RL360i and Laser Defusers added to his new F-350.

"Over the years, we’ve been told many similar stories of time-tested K40 performance. Tony’s unique ticket-free story inspired us to create “The High Mileage Club”. Membership is exclusive and worth bragging about as prospective club members will had to have traveled at least 200,000 miles while protected by a K40 system.

"Do you have what it takes to gain entry to this club? There’s a unique prize waiting for you when you send us a picture of the odometer and call us to tell your unique story."

The PWD-CB1Alpine ICE features a wireless sound system in a rugged premium cooler

Torrance, Calif. (October 20, 2016) – Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., manufacturer of premium in-vehicle infotainment systems, has expanded outside of the car to take the entertainment wherever the fun is with a portable sound system in a cooler. The new PWD-CB1 Alpine In-Cooler Entertainment (ICE) system is now shipping.

“For the past three years, we’ve produced Alpine Restyle vehicle-specific infotainment systems for the Jeep Wrangler, full-size trucks, and SUVs,” said Steve Crawford, vice president and general manager, aftermarket business unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. “Through this experience, we recognized the need for an entertainment system that could be used outside of the vehicle yet matched the lifestyle activities of these owners, which led us to develop the PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE.”

The PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE features an Alpine sound system installed in a Grizzly™ Cooler and uses an innovative design that does not sacrifice storage capacity or cooling capability. The 180-watt Alpine sound system consists of a 2-way, 5.25-inch component waterproof speaker system with 4x10-inch bass radiators and a compact audio amplifier. The Bluetooth® wireless connection provides audio streaming and pairs to a portable device in seconds through the illuminated control panel. The side-mounted 3.5-mm aux input is used for a wired connection to a portable device, while the 3.5-mm audio output links multiple PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE systems together for bigger sound. The PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE is powered by the included 16-foot cable that plugs into the vehicle’s 12 volt auxiliary power outlet. When the PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE is connected to the vehicle, the monitoring system on the control panel signals the user if the vehicle needs to be started to prevent the battery from completely discharging,

    Exclusive Design
The PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE upholds the distinctive Grizzly style while maintaining the sound performance of the Alpine system. The specially-designed speakers and bass radiators are recessed on the cooler’s front wall and produce balanced sound that can get loud when needed. The Alpine components are housed in an exclusive enclosure that protects them from interior cabin moisture but is only 3-inches deep, for minimal impact on the cooler’s 56-quart storage capacity.

The Alpine components are water resistant for easy cleanup, allowing the PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE to be used at outdoor activities like boating, fishing, water sports, camping and tailgating. The coated speaker grills are protected against corrosion, and rubber gaskets help keep water away from the control panel, speakers and electronics assemblies. A plastic cover and silicon rubber plugs shield the aux input and audio outputs when not in use. The PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE measures 34” L x 16 ¾” W x 17 7/8” H.  Signature Grizzly features include molded-in heavy duty handles, BearClaw™ latching system, nylon rope handles with rubber grips, non-slip rubber feet, and a two-inch drain plug.

    Suggested Accessories
To take the PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE on the go, Alpine suggests connecting it to the Goal Zero Yeti 400 external battery (sold separately, www.goalzero.com). Alpine also suggests the Mighty Max Plus One Sports Cart with all-terrain wheels (sold separately, www.mightymaxcart.com) as a compatible cart for transporting the PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE.

The work is good but so far there've been no jobs that have overwhelmed you or taken your attention away from your regular duties of installing speakers, decks, amps and the like. That is, until now.

Does this scenario sound familiar? If so, know that you aren't the only one to deal with it. Rob Paterson, co-owner of 2016 Top 50 Retailer, Sound Auto, in Hamilton, N.J. experienced it first-hand when a client brought in his RV in the hopes of adding a few extra bells and whistles to spice up his weekend joy ride. Several visits and thousands of dollars later, the job was done and the small, three-man operation had won over the client, created a memorable build and managed to balance the massive, two-year job with the rest of their workload. That begs the question: How did they do it? The answer: Very carefully.

Randy Lumia had the idea of getting a few upgrades done on his 28-foot RV. The client arrived on a Saturday and asked about technology, amenities and items that could give him bragging rights during fishing and camping trips with friends, effectively creating a "Man Cave On Wheels."

"We have 14-foot-high bay doors as part of a 3,000 square foot facility. 90 percent of it is bay space; we had 12 cars in here at one point," Paterson said. "Without the ability to have this thing inside, I never would have taken this job."

The sales staff discussed a variety of upgrade options while Lumia stressed the importance of leaving room for future upgrades as the budget would allow. After about an hour or so, he drove off and the salesman was left to contemplate possibilities for the camper. A couple weeks went by before the customer's return. During that time, he had the A/C unit replaced, a new generator installed, found an interior person and ordered all of the materials, installed new wheels, tires and brakes. From that point on, it was clear to Paterson and his two-man crew that this would be a serious project.

"You've got to step back and get the larger idea. With a large job like this, if it's not done in 20 baby steps, you've got a hot mess," Paterson said. "You've got 20 lines going to the battery. But if you plan it at the offset, you can plan a power distribution set up. Plan four steps ahead. Get an accurate idea of what the scope is."

Although the practice of properly planning for a big job is something Paterson is accustomed to, the same can't be said of all retailers, who face different issues as large projects come in.

    The Start of Something Big

With over 33 years of experience working for companies like Alpine Electronics, VOXX Electronics and now, president and chief technology evangelist of American Road Products, Steve Witt brings a plethora of information with him on all aspects of mobile electronics. But since his current company sells safety products like backup sensors and collision avoidance products, which are installed by a partner company he works with called Premiere Services, Witt is well-versed on what it takes for retailers to handle large-scale projects like fleet builds and large vehicle installs.

"To find and prepare for a big job, whether it be a single vehicle or fleet of vehicles, there are multiple steps a retailer should follow. First, plan the scope of work with your team. That includes getting the complete custom requirements on paper, assigning tasks to the most appropriate employee based on knowhow and creating a task management timeline. That can be something as simple as a whiteboard in the install bay. It doesn't have to be a big document with charts," Witt said. "Then, brief the customer with that plan because what will happen is once you regurgitate to the customer additional needs, requirements or wants could come out that could increase the sale."

As it turns out, that's just what happened to Paterson, albeit in a more scattered timeline. The build took place in several stages, which were planned one step at a time, considering neither the shop nor the customer knew there would be more than one stage. The first stage of the build consisted of upgrading the windows and door locks from manual to electric. The team also added a radar detector, alarm, remote start, a Morel GPS, a JL Audio XD three-channel amplifier and Pinnacle Baby Boomer subwoofer (which pulled double duty for both the front end and lounge areas). The bunk area was equipped with two 32-inch TVs on swing-out arms, an Onkyo eight-channel receiver, Blu-ray player, sound bar and surround speakers. A 19-inch TV and speakers were installed in the rear bedroom to round out the entertainment center aspect of the build.

Getting the customer to sign off on the plan was easy for Paterson given his extensive experience, customer rapport, and the customer having done his research online prior to seeking Paterson out. Once the first phase was complete, the customer was billed on that work and the job was seemingly done—or so they thought.

10-19-2016, STILLWATER, USA – KICKER® Performance Audio has finalized a strategic alliance with SSV Works®, which will now offer KICKER speakers and amplifiers as a premium option with its custom powersports audio enclosures. SSV Works is a premier speaker-enclosure manufacturer in the powersports industry.

KICKER’s motivation for collaborating with SSV Works is to create new solutions for the ever-expanding powersports market.

“Powersports customers want a complete solution,” said KICKER Powersports Manager Bryan Grace. “The number-one company for UTV aftermarket audio enclosures is SSV Works. They were the first to do it, and they are the best at it. It was a perfect fit.”

SSV Works was the first company to create specifically built, powersports audio gear. With an extensive background in car audio and OEM integration experience, SSV Works identified that there was a need for off-road audio done correctly. This precipitated the creation of custom audio enclosures for Yamaha® UTVs - the first side-by-sides to enter the market. They now offer over 120 application-specific products for nearly every UTV available.

Trevor Kaplan, CEO of SSV Works, says he chose to align with KICKER for the quality of its powersports-specific approach to audio.

“Our partnership with KICKER gives us the ability to use product that is purpose-built and would bring the recognition and quality that our competitors cannot offer,” Kaplan said. “We find customers have KICKER in their trucks, cars and boats, and they want matching speakers in their side-by-sides.”

The relationship has already created ripples within the industry. Arctic Cat® currently offers a KICKER/SSV Works audio system as a factory option in its Wildcat™ X3 models. Powersports retail giants 4 Wheel Parts and Bert’s Mega Mall will also carry the KICKER-equipped SSV Works enclosure line.

Two SSV Works UTVs will be present in the KICKER booth during the 2016 SEMA Show, each featuring a wild KICKER/SSV Works audio system. A Can-Am® Maverick® and Arctic Cat Wildcat X3 will both be in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth 11861.

Grace is optimistic about the future of powersports audio, and what KICKER/SSV Works’ new alliance will mean to the industry.

“It’s not often two of the largest companies in their respective categories come together,” he says. “With our technology and infrastructure, combined with SSV Works’ high-quality enclosures, the possibilities are endless.”

KICKER Performance Audio products, a division of Stillwater Designs and Audio, Inc.®, are available for the mobile and home audio aftermarket at authorized retailers worldwide, and also as Original Equipment for automobile manufacturers. DOUGLASVILLE, GEORGIA – OCTOBER 18, 2016 - Omega is now shipping the new EXCALIBUR 70-Series models. The 70-Series is Omega’s most advanced Remote-Start line ever. Omega takes a populist stance by including high end & high-leverage features across the entire line, including the “entry” price point units.

    70-Series highlights:

With 70-Series, Omega is first in adding a built-in Accelerometer. All “3D” models are equipped with 3D accelerometer BUILT into the window mount antenna for manual transmission starting, without the complicated exit routine. Just turn OFF your Stick-Shift vehicle with the transmission in the neutral position, and go, your done. If during the remote start attempt the accelerometer senses any movement, it will abort the attempt. So if someone accidentally placed the vehicle in gear, your safe. Having the 3D accelerometer in the window mounted antenna is far superior to having it as a plug-in sensor due to its isolated & rigid install location. It won’t be susceptible to normal engine vibration that can cause a false positive, shutting down your remote start attempt. This is a major refinement in the user experience.

All 70-Series models now come standard with "Cold-Temperature" start & "Low-Battery Voltage" start, including the "entry units". These are very useful functions that can help users avoid unpleasant mornings on really cold days.

All Omega 70-Series models include a newly developed vehicle ignition learn routine that will check the primary ignition connections. If an out of sequence wiring error is detected, the 70-Series Remote Start unit will reconfigure itself to adapt to the sequence the ignition cables are actually wired as. It will also automatically do a self-diagnostic where it looks for what type of TACH input was used, then calibrates itself to match.

All 70-Series Starters have Twin Interdependent Self-Learning dataports, so you never need to hardware your Telematics device. Both support both the IDatalink & DBI protocols, so you can mix & match the modules and tracking devices your plugging in. "B" models also include a BLADE slot for use of a BLADE interface cartridge.

All 70-Series Starters are flashable using a PC. This means that the installer can update the operating firmware, and set the programmable features. This is insurance against inventory obsolescence.

ALL 70-Series Remote Start models have newly tooled main units. We added a window so that the built-in thermistor can better sample the ambient air temperature. This improves the "Cold Temperature" start function that is now standard on ALL models.

Since the remote is the only thing the user actually see's and touches, form, function, and ascetics are valuable assets. So we also tooled a new 1+1 remote, and a 2-way LED controller

With 70-Series, Omega introduces the "1+1" remote mentioned above:  Industry wide, the 1-Button remote control is attractive to users who desire a smaller remote, and fewer unused buttons. As this 1-Button segment grows, but more commands are added to the 1-Button remote control, users are having to remember an array of button press combinations to activate different functions.

For example, press and release for START, and press & hold for Lock/Unlock, or press 2 times within 3 seconds for etc...   Also, multiple button presses and Press & Hold combinations reduce the remote’s transmitting range.  The 1+1 remote solves this by offering the traditional large START button, and also a smaller dedicated Lock/Unlock button band at the bottom, all without increasing the size of the traditional 1-Button remote, and maximizing the transmitting range. It is intuitive, and very user friendly.

Another key desire is to equip Omega units so that the installer can offer easy upgrades to the customer. Thus, with Omega 70-Series units, the opportunity for upsell is always there.

All 70-Series Omega remote start units have a built-in Security Suite. This means that every Omega starter has a built in alarm, that can be set up with no additional labor if the interface module used provides door status. It can also be layered for more protection by adding a data Shock sensor, or a data Shock/Tilt sensor. Both of these sensor options have analog door status inputs in case the interface module used does not provide door status. Thus every Omega 70-Series starter can be turned into an Alarm/Remote Start COMBO unit.

Another upsell feature is that all 70-series 1-Way "3D" units are 2-way Ready, that means that all 1-Way "3D" units come with a 2-way antenna! So to upsell the sale, just learn in a compatible 2-way controller like the newly introduced a 2-way LED hand held controller.

Omega's 70-Series is the most advance Remote Start in the industry, bar none. Its also the most installer friendly, and user friendly system as well. And since every unit is flashable, you can keep your unit current with the latest updates, insuring a more pleasant experience for all.
