Holly Hill, FL - April 2018 – iBeam Vehicle Safety Systems by Metra Electronics® has released a new DVR kit that simultaneously captures video in both the front and rear of the vehicle, with infrared assisted night vision on the front camera. The TE-IFD kit will improve driver visibility, both day and night, supporting 1080p HD recording in the front and 720p recording for the rear camera. For front night vision recording, 720p is supported.

iBeam’s latest DVR kit connects to the vehicle display from the DVR’s video RCA output. Drivers can select to view the front day, front night, or rear-view camera feed. This kit also connects to a smartphone, where users who are connected to Wi-Fi can view a live recording of the vehicle’s surroundings via the free mobile app, available for Apple and Android devices. The mobile app also allows the user to adjust settings or view videos and pictures recorded from the DVR.

For security purposes, a motion sensor can be activated to monitor activity while the vehicle is parked and left unattended*. A built-in g-force sensor detects collisions and locks the captured video content to prevent it from being overwritten. This is especially useful in the event of an accident, where video recordings can be used as potentially vital evidence.

The high-tech TE-IFD kit includes an infrared LED bar that mounts behind the front license plate to improve night recording, a control box, front camera with night vision, rear camera, infrared driver, Wi-Fi USB cable and power/switch button. The kit installs seamlessly into any vehicle application while maintaining an OEM-style look and feel. Learn more about iBeam Vehicle Safety Systems at iBeamUSA.com.

*Installers should read the instruction manual on how to enable or disable the motion detection function, as the software will need to be updated. The instruction manual can be seen at: http://metraonline.com/files/products/TE-IFD_Manual.pdf

EDMOND, Okla.— Petra Industries, the consumer electronic industry’s accessory authority, hosted Car Tech 2018 on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the company's B2B Store, located at 3400 S. Kelly in Edmond. This intensive, one-day training opportunity paired businesses that do aftermarket installations on cars, powersports vehicles and boats with trainers from eight of the most-requested 12-volt manufacturers. Attendees from area businesses broke into small groups and rotated through the eight manufacturers. They received hands-on training and learned insider tips and tricks. Earl's Rib Palace of Edmond provided lunch.

"Small shops can't afford to go to SEMA or CES," said Chris Parvin, National Trainer for Maxxsonics. "Events like Car Tech bring the latest trends, products and knowledge to independent retailers right here, at no charge to them."

"Explaining aspects of products they may not know about and answering questions face to face is what makes events like this so important," noted Harry Kroll, National Trainer for Pioneer.

"Knowledge is crucial for small businesses," said Rene Rodriguez of Intense Car Audio. "There's an opportunity for real conversation and for new employees to learn insider tricks from seasoned professionals."

"Meeting with trainers who have field experience is invaluable," said Dusty Deaton of Dusty's Total Audio. "I have new guys who are more comfortable texting than talking with people face to face. Car Tech helped them see how professionals interact with others. This will help them become better sales people."

"Car Tech 2018 provided an intense learning experience," said Tate Morgan, Petra President. "It enabled area installers to ask questions, gain new skills and learn from the best."

NAV-TV Corp., announces the ZEN-M amplifier interface for select Mercedes Benz vehicles utilizing MOST®150. The ZEN-M allows the seamless addition of aftermarket amplifiers into compatible vehicles, delivering audiophile-quality sound without compromising the vehicle’s factory fit, finish or features. ZEN-M is the second MOST®150 digital preamp solution from NAV-TV®,expanding compatibility to now include select Audi, Bentley, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and VW models.

The ZEN-M produces a completely flat audio output without any factory time delay or equalization, eliminating the need for summing devices, an audio correction DSP or the removal of the factory audio compensation microphones. Installation of the interface requires no modification to the vehicle and is compatible with both amplified and non amplified factory systems[1]. Volume, Fade[3], Balance and Bass/Treble tone controls are retained through the factory radio and echo cancelation for the factory Bluetooth hands-free system is supported.

Utilizing a 128 bit floating point DSP and 192 kHz 32 bit DAC, the ZEN-M produces a 12 channel analog output with a S/N Ratio of 123dB. For vehicles with video playback capability, the ZEN-M supports 7.1 and 5.1 audio[2]. The unit provides a 500mA output for controlling aftermarket devices and, additionally, retains the factory equalizer.

For use with 3rd party digital sound processors[3], the ZEN-M includes a variable TOSlink digital output which may be used simultaneously with the analog outputs, or by itself. The variable digital output allows for the system volume to be controlled via the factory radio and steering wheel controls without the need to access any 3rd party controller.

April 16, 2018 - VAIS Technology has released a new satellite radio integrated solution specifically designed for 2018 Alfa Romeo models. This solution allows owners of 2018 Alfa Romeo models the ability to add SiriusXM® satellite radio to their existing factory stereo, without compromising functionality.

The new 2018 integration kit provides coverage for Stelvio and Giulia (GSR-A01) vehicles. Also, these vehicles are compatible with the GSR-U01 (universal unit) which can be flashed using online software.

This adapter connects directly to the original factory radio and allows the vehicle owner to listen to satellite radio through the existing factory system. The VAIS integrated solution also allows for full control of satellite radio functions--changing stations, setting presets, steering wheel functions, etc.

“Since 2003, VAIS Technology have been developing satellite radio adapters for vehicles that aren’t equipped from the factory with SiriusXM® tuners,” said Dennis Hopper, Vice President of Sales. “While satellite radio is more popular than ever, many new OEM vehicles still don’t come equipped from the factory with satellite tuners. In 2018 alone, four new models now have deleted options of satellite radio. Our company develops simple, easy to install integrated solutions to add satellite radio, but preserve factory functions.”

Muskegon, Mich., April 11, 2018—Smart Vision Lights, a leading designer and manufacturer of high-brightness LED lights for industrial applications, is proud to announce that its LED Light Manager (LLM) received Vision Systems Design magazine’s silver award for product innovation in the category of lighting, lenses, and optics. Part of the magazine’s Innovators Awards program, the honor was bestowed at The Vision Show in Boston. The judging panel consisted of esteemed experts from system-integrator and end-user companies.

The LLM addresses the lighting control needs of multi-light machine vision systems by driving up to four separate lights of virtually any type or up to four individual quadrants or channels within an integrated photometric or multispectral ring light solution. Each program can contain up to four sequences with up to four lights set to continuous on, off, any intensity level in between, or even OverDriveTMstrobe mode.

“Our LLM LED Light Manager simplifies 3D and other complex multi-light applications by encapsulating the manager in the industry’s most user-friendly design,” said Matt Pinter, head of engineering at Smart Vision Lights. “An intuitive browser-based interface allows technicians of any skill level to program the four quadrants of a single LED illumination system.”

By capturing successive images of a stationary object as it is illuminated by a sequence of lights, photometric image-processing software can determine the 3D position and orientation of every pixel on the object’s surface. The same technique can generate 2D images of multiple regions of interest using separate lights and/or cameras as part of large, complex machine vision solutions, such as vision-guided robot work cells. To simplify the design of photometric 3D systems, SVL has created a number of LLM Photometric Light Kits, which include lights with universal internal drivers, oblique-angle brackets for directing light, and the requisite cables.

LLM is also appropriate for multispectral imaging solutions where the LED illumination source acts as the spectral band-selection mechanism, instead of using broadband white halogen lamps with filters placed before the camera. Using the color of illuminating light as the spectral band selection mechanism can greatly reduce the cost of multispectral imaging solutions while increasing the amount of light available for imaging applications.

The silver award for the LLM is Smart Vision Lights’ latest Innovators Awards honor. In 2017, SVL received a gold award for its LM Series of mini LEDs. Its Line High Power Series of LED lights for line-scan imaging received a platinum award in 2016.

Eleven is Better Than Seven

EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada, April 4, 2018 – It would be a sin to continue to utilize traditional Wi-Fi when there is a better option available. It really is that simple.

Eleven Engineering, Inc. (www.elevenengineering.com), a market leader in semiconductor products for wireless audio for home theater, multi-room, portable, professional, 12 Volt (car, truck, motorcycle, power sports, marine) and gaming applications, has broken down Wi-Fi’s Seven Deadly Sins…and why SKAA® is superior in so many ways…on its YouTube channel.

“When you peel back the layers, traditional Wifi is subpar, or even non-existent, in seven key areas of modern wireless HiFi audio categories,” explained Rex Whitehead, Eleven Engineering Executive Vice President – Sales & Marketing. “We break it down on our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw2iSCuT0x8) because WiFi is more of a detriment rather than a benefit to those who value superior wireless audio in their everyday lives, as well as wireless audio product manufacturers who cater to and depend upon these customers.”

Wi-Fi Audio's Seven Deadly Sins:

1-    Fragmented: There are many flavors of WiFi audio, and they’re completely INCOMPATIBLE with each other

2-    Big, variable latency: Virtually all Wifi audio solutions introduce large latencies (250 ms - 2000 ms). Many Wifi solutions introduce latencies which vary from speaker to speaker (lack of sync means poor imaging) and vary from session to session (like rolling the dice when you power them up).

3-    Lack of ease: Complex and time-consuming to set up.

4-    No headphones: Wi-Fi is optimized for static (non-mobile) devices. Wi-Fi is a power hog; this does not bode well for headphone implementations.

5-    Hotspot requirement: Almost all Wi-Fi audio solutions require the source and speaker to be on the same Wi-Fi network; and you may not have the password, either.

6-    A small piece of the pie: Wi-Fi is limited to background streaming music; Wi-Fi will fail at virtually every other category that combines a visual aspect (i.e. gaming, Netflix/YouTube/GarageBand, Social Media video streaming, etc.) with the audio aspect.

7-    Congestion: Putting WiFi speakers on your network serves to clog up your network, slowing your Internet access and causing WiFi to fail at what it’s actually good at…data transport from your smart device to the cloud.

SKAA is the new wireless HiFi audio standard developed by Eleven Engineering, Inc. SKAA transmitters work with iOS & Android mobile devices, Mac & Windows computers, televisions, and just about any product with a line output or a headphone jack. SKAA is also available as a built-in technology not requiring an external transmitter in purpose-designed partner products, which are featured at SKAA.com. In environments laden with heavy Wi-Fi and Bluetooth traffic, SKAA navigates through these hostile environments with best-in-class reliability. SKAA also allows for uninterrupted audio signals that are delivered with the highest sound quality to all speakers without the latency that is inherent in other wireless solutions.

According to Eleven Engineering, North American standards dictate that “audio shall not lag video by more than 60 ms.” Ethernet protocol is a very polite protocol which always “looks before it sends” and if the channel is busy with other traffic when a particular node wants to send, the Ethernet protocol waits for a period and tries again. If the channel is still busy, Ethernet protocol dictates a longer wait time till the next send is attempted, and so on.

“The above ‘polite’ protocol at the base of Ethernet works great for data packets, but is fundamentally flawed for transporting a low-latency real-time audio stream,” Whitehead continued. “The base protocol Wifi uses is Ethernet protocol. SKAA delivers 36 ms latency. Always. One of the main reasons SKAA is so flexible is that it’s 100 percent WiFi free. While fantastic for connecting your device to the Internet, WiFi is an awkward, cumbersome albatross in audio land.”

Whitehead concluded, “SKAA is superior to WiFi in all of these aforementioned categories. It is highly flexible as it is also compatible with any brand, any product, anytime, anywhere, with rock solid reliability, great range, and CD-quality sound. SKAA is ridiculously easy to use…all compatible products are ready to play right out of the box with no pairing required. Continuing to utilize WiFi has become a trend that’s no longer necessary. Moving from WiFi to SKAA is an apples to apples comparison to moving from a mobile phone to a smart phone…SKAA offers that much more flexibility and expanded use cases.”

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based Eleven Engineering, Inc. is a market leader in microprocessors SiPs (System in Package) and modules designed for wireless audio for Home Theater, Multi-Room, Portable, and Pro Audio products. Eleven's XInC2 multithreaded processor was designed specifically for digital wireless audio applications but is also well suited for other realtime intensive microprocessor applications.

Eleven's high-performance wireless audio semiconductors, equipped with XInC2 wireless processor cores, are complete solutions for high-quality digital wireless audio transport. WFD™, Eleven's proprietary wireless audio transport protocol, has a narrow footprint in the radio spectrum, delivering both best-in-class coexistence with WiFi / Bluetooth and unparalleled Quality of Service.

This versatile processor creates a proper sound stage even when used with a factory head unit.

Torrance, Calif. (Apr. 4, 2018)– Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. is now shipping the new PXE-0850S 12-channel sound processor with Bluetooth®app control.

“The PXE-0850S processor allows for customization of a sound system even with today’s factory head units,” said Mike Anderson, vice president and general manager, brand business unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. “Users can tune their system wirelessly with a tablet or smartphone or through a PC, to create a sound stage that fits their listening preference.”

The PXE-0850S overcomes inherent acoustical anomalies within vehicles to develop a well-balanced response and proper sound stage. This versatile processor can be used with a factory head unit, Alpine head unit, or other aftermarket head unit for instant sound system improvement.

Setting a Foundation for System Building
Complex factory head units can make it hard to add on aftermarket products, so DSP (Digital Signal Processor) management is key to unlocking a system for custom sound tuning. The PXE-0850S can take up to six independent signals and combine them to create a full-range signal. The full-range signal can then be sent to up to 12 independent channels, creating an opportunity to add aftermarket amplifiers and speakers to the system.

Easy Access to Detailed Sound Tuning
Now that the system’s DSP management is accessible, precise sound tuning can begin. The PXE-0850S lets users set a proper sound stage by delaying the timing from each speaker location so it reaches the driver’s ears at the same time. The 31-band parametric and graphic equalizer can dial down unwanted frequencies and flatten the response to ensure the system is replicating the music exactly as the artist intended.

The PXE-0850S can tune a system wirelessly or through a wired connection on a PC (using the included USB cable). Bluetooth wireless tuning using a smartphone or tablet requires the free “PXE-DSP-APP” found on the App Store and Google Play. The app for the wired PC connection is available through the “Support” section onwww.alpine-usa.com. Either format allows the user to assign inputs/outputs, crossovers, time correction, and 31 bands of equalization, view them in one place, and make and hear sound adjustments with real-time results.

Tuning setups can be saved for future use in vehicles with similar setups. This is ideal for installers who routinely tune multiple vehicles, allowing them to build a library of tuning setups to save time in the future.

Adjustments from the Dash
The PXE-0850S comes with an LCD remote controller that can be flush-mounted on the dash. The rotary knob controls volume, preset storage and recall, all while displaying the results on the remote controller’s LED screen. The use of the controller is optional and it does not have to be installed if the smartphone control is enough.

The PXE-0850S is available at authorized Alpine retailers for $700 SRI. Visit www.alpine-usa.com for a store locator.
