Holly Hill, FL - February 9, 2018 – Metra Electronics®, the leading manufacturer of aftermarket automotive solutions, will be at KnowledgeFest in Long Beach, CA from February 23 to 25, 2018 at booth 424 in the Long Beach Convention Center. With the release of more than 200 new products at SEMA and CES combined, Metra Electronics and Axxess have innovative solutions designed to cover an even wider range of vehicle technologies and applications. Metra is hosting a vendor training session to introduce these new products and show installers how they can use these solutions to their advantage.

Metra Electronics and Axxess New Product Training

Metra’s vendor training will take place on Friday, 2/23/18 from 3:00pm - 4:00pm in the Seaside Room and again on Saturday, 2/24/18 from 5:30pm - 6:30pm with Stephanie Carver. Training topics include the new Axxess ADDCAM solution for aftermarket camera integration with the OEM radio and its vehicle-specific plug-n-play harnesses. For applications with an existing backup camera that are adding front and side cameras to the OEM radio, the AX-ADDCAM camera switching interface will provide up to three additional camera inputs to the factory radio and still retain the factory camera. AX-ADDCAM interface technology allows the cameras to function automatically for parking assistance, when commands are available on the CANBUS. In this instance, no human interaction is required to display the camera feeds, unless desired to do so. If the factory system does not already include a rearview camera, the AX-ADDCAM interface can also be used to add up to four CAN activated camera inputs to the factory radio.

This session will also cover the new Axxess radio replacement interfaces with MOST25 amplifier retention. These new interfaces provide accessory 12-volt power and NAV outputs, retain steering wheel controls, retain the OEM amplifier and will retain chimes, when present. They utilize Axxess’ revolutionary ASWC-1 technology along with a fiber optic interface that allows coverage into the MOST 25 vehicle applications. The MOST25 radio replacement interfaces utilize the backup camera input of the aftermarket radio to display personalization menus and, if equipped, the sonar sensors.

The new Axxess AX-DSP plug-n-play packages and T-harnesses introduced at CES 2018 will also be covered in the training. AX-DSP packages now cover select applications with SPDIF or MOST50 digitally amplified systems and include the patent-pending Digital Signal Processor (AX-DSP) by Axxess, a vehicle-specific T-harness and amplifier bypass harness. The number of T-harnesses available for the AX-DSP have also doubled, as this new product has helped fill a gap in the market. The AX-DSP, which began shipping in the summer of 2017, already works with a wide range of vehicle applications, including non-amplified vehicles that do not have chimes. For amplified vehicles or vehicles with chimes, see the AX-DSP application chart for more information. The AX-DSP is a cost effective solution for customers who want to retain their factory radio and improve their vehicle sound quality, while still retaining systems like SYNC® or OnStar®. This digital signal processor sets itself apart with on-board digital amplifier turn-on capability, chime retention with volume control, and fully adjustable 31 band graphic EQ with time delay. All features and adjustments are controlled via Bluetooth® to the Axxess smartphone application, available for iOS and Android devices.

Metra’s latest TurboTactile dash kits with integrated electronics that debuted at CES 2018 will also be covered in the training. The TurboTactile dash kits feature factory style hard buttons, etched graphics, LCD knobs, and integrated electronics that retain most vehicle customization features.

Attendees will also learn about Metra’s popular TubroTouch dash kits with an integrated 4.3” touchscreen and user interface that retains and controls most of the climate and vehicle customization functions that are normally lost when removing the factory radio. The TurboTouch smart interface technology automatically detects the vehicle’s features. Steering wheel functionality is retained and the patent-pending touchscreen design also retains the factory safety features, including backup camera.

STILLWATER, USA – KICKER® is proud to announce the revolutionary KEY180.4 Smart Amplifier with 180 watts of power, Auto-EQ and compatibility with start/stop vehicles. This new mobile-audio technology will be unveiled during CES 2018 and will be available at Authorized KICKER Dealers in-store and online by first-quarter 2018. The KEY180.4 will also be available for purchase at www.kicker.com.

The KEY180.4 represents a completely revolutionary approach to achieving greatly improved sound quality and imaging in an affordable, all-in-one package that installs nearly anywhere, and works with even the most modern factory or aftermarket audio systems. KICKER always suggests that consumers seek a demonstration of the KEY180.4 from an authorized KICKER dealer as time allows, to experience the dramatic improvement of any mobile-audio system.

The extremely compact KEY180.4 automatically improves the sound quality of any vehicle with the push of a button.  KEY technology breathes new life and realism into any audio system, factory or aftermarket, with this brilliant amplifier and acoustic processor in one.  The four-channel amplifier comes with a microphone and integrated push-button remote. The remote is designed to start the calibration process once microphone placement near ear level is complete.

The button press sets the KEY’s test tones and proprietary algorithms in motion. The system detects speaker sizing, applies a 24dB crossover and 40 channels of equalization, applies time alignment and customizes the gain levels of each channel independently. The true potential of the vehicle’s sound system is revealed in a matter of seconds, delivering dramatic improvements in realism and soundstage without the need for expensive external processors or personal tuning time.

KEY technology uses FIT2™ (Fail-Safe Integration Technology) and start/stop compatibility to work with nearly any vehicle on the road today. Once installed, the amp can be activated via remote 12v signal or DC offset. Additionally, the amplifier’s miniscule footprint allows for easy installation in a myriad of locations, from behind the radio, to under a seat, or even behind the glove box.

KEY technology also employs a unique method of controlling heat and virtually eliminating the need for a protection mode. Faced with thermal overloads, traditional amplifiers force the listener to experience volume “pumping,” even a possible shutdown, or the fuse simply blows.  KICKER engineers created a dynamic system that engages a inaudible limiter/compressor applied only to the peaks of the music for as little as milliseconds at a time. The temporary drop in power results in the amplifier cooling and a cancellation of the compressor. Music then returns to its full dynamic range without a moment’s inconvenience or interruption.

KICKER Performance Audio products, a division of Stillwater Designs and Audio, Inc.®, are available for the mobile and home audio aftermarket at authorized retailers worldwide, and also as Original Equipment for automobile manufacturers. Consumers seeking more information on KICKER or Livin’ Loud® may call the Consumer Information Line at 1-800-256-5425 or visit the brand website at www.kicker.com. LAS VEGAS, January 9, 2018 (MEDIAWIRE) – KENWOOD has continued a path of product evolution with innovative features that meet consumer demand for a more intuitive, less distracting user experience. The 2018 model-year multimedia lineup, on display at the 2018 CES, focuses on better integration and content consumption of smartphone-centric entertainment and information.

KENWOOD has again expanded the number of multimedia receivers that are ready for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, with 15 models across the KENWOOD and KENWOOD eXcelon product lines. With a wired connection between smartphone and receiver, Apple CarPlay provides iPhone® users a safe, easy interface on the KENWOOD receiver to use apps in the vehicle. Apple CarPlay now lets users access TIDAL™, an online music service known for its high-fidelity streaming capability, as well as SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, from its platform.

But the most significant improvement has been with Android Auto, which provides a similar experience for users of Android™-powered smartphones. This year, users of five of KENWOOD’s top models can access Android Auto’s voice control and app integration features with a wired or wireless connection. This means users can leave their phones in pockets or bags and retain full, safe use of the phone’s navigation, communication and streaming applications.

Also new with Android-powered smartphones is support for the Google Assistant™, which lets users request and receive information using their voice, as well as control compatible smart devices connected to their Google account. All multimedia receivers that support wired or wireless Android Auto work with the Google Assistant.

Outside of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, KENWOOD has increased its native support for more applications with KENWOOD WebLink®, a content management platform that lets smartphone users interact with select apps on the receiver display screen as they would with a phone or tablet. With the KENWOOD WebLink app on a smartphone connected to a KENWOOD receiver, users can access Waze™, the popular community-based navigation app, as well as YouTube™, Yelp™ and Weather. On KENWOOD receivers that support wireless Android Auto, WebLink can also be used with a wireless connection.

In addition to improved content and integration, select KENWOOD multimedia receivers get a display upgrade. All new capacitive touch screens now feature anti-glare and anti-reflection technology to enable users to better see content in all conditions.

“Years ago, making better in-car entertainment was all about adding more features to our radios,” said Tony Mercado, marketing manager for the KENWOOD brand. “Now, consumers determine their experience for the most part in how they curate and access content on their smartphones. Our goal is to extend that experience into the vehicle in a way that is accessible while driving, and expand on it with premium audio and visual components. We feel our 2018 multimedia lineup has accomplished this.”

1-10-2018 -- Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. today debuts two prototype in-dash multimedia receivers, future additions to its popular NEX lineup, the double-DIN 7” LCD AVIC-W8400NEX and AVH-W4400NEX. Designed to showcase the future of wireless connectivity and smart home integration, Pioneer and a Google Brand Ambassador are teaming up to demonstrate Android Auto Wireless and Google Assistant, now available on Android Auto™ at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018.

“Our future NEX multimedia receivers represent our next major implementation of smartphone connectivity,” said Ted Cardenas, vice president of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “Android Auto Wireless provides all the features and functionality of Android Auto with the added convenience and simplicity of a wireless connection.  Google Assistant, now on Android Auto, lets drivers keep their hands on the wheel and use voice actions to manage tasks while staying focused on the road.”

Android Auto is a simpler way to use the Android® platform in the car. With larger touch targets, a simplified interface, and easy-to-use voice actions, it's designed to minimize distraction with driver safety in mind.1 Android Auto Wireless eliminates the need for users to consciously plug in and connect, providing the additional convenience of simply leaving their phone in their pocket, bag or wherever they carry their Android device.

Google Assistant lets the user have a conversation with Google to get things done in his or her world. Google Assistant works with more than 1,000 smart devices from more than 150 popular brands, making it easy to control things around the user’s house just by voice. Google Assistant meets users where they are, on the phone, at home and now in the car.

In 2015, Pioneer was the first aftermarket manufacturer to integrate Android Auto capability in its in-dash receivers. Pioneer’s integration of Android Auto in both the currently available line-up and future products enhance the feature’s functionality and improves the overall user experience:

·         For greater sound quality, each unit comes with a microphone that makes it easier to pick up the commands of the driver or passenger and all answers are pumped out of the car speakers.

·         In addition to saying “Hey Google” out loud, users also have the option to access Hey Google three more ways, hitting the hard home key of the unit, tapping on the microphone of the Android Auto user interface, or tapping on the voice assistance via the steering wheel controls.

·         Advanced sound reproduction options to enhance listening experience:

o    Built-in Auto EQ and Auto Time Alignment provide customized audio adjustments for the driver2

MUSKEGON, Mich., January 8, 2018 — Smart Vision Lights, a leading designer and manufacturer of high-brightness LED lights for industrial applications, introduces its most advanced LED mini ring light — the RM140.

The compact and powerful RM140 Mini Ring Light is a low-angle ring light that works best for dark field ring applications. The light can also be used for radial illumination. The RM140 series features a sealed, IP65-rated aluminum housing and includes Smart Vision Lights’ built-in Multi-Drive™ constant current driver that allows the light to operate continuously or in OverDrive™ strobe mode. In addition, by regulating the current delivered to the LEDs and limiting their duty cycle, the Multi-Drive protects the high-intensity LEDs from premature degradation and failure caused by excessive heat.

The industry-standard 5-pin M12 connector makes for simple wiring since external wiring to a driver is unnecessary, and the 1–10 V DC analog control line gives the user total control over intensity when running the light in constant operation. The RM140 also offers overcurrent protection, as well as PNP and NPN strobe input.

Standard wavelength colors are white, 470 nm blue, 530 nm green, and 625 nm red. Additional wavelengths are available upon request.

For more information about the RM140, visit smartvisionlights.com/products/mini-ring-lights.

"Find a need and fill it." Ever since I first heard this profound statement, which was spoken by 12-volt sales guru Del Ellis at my first KnowledgeFest, I found that it was also representative of the industry I'd soon come to adore.

When I was first hired by Mobile Electronics magazine I was a daisy-fresh rookie with a journalism degree who didn't know a double-DIN from a DSP. Although I'm still no expert on the technical side of 12-volt, what I have gained a strong grasp of is how the industry works. That's also what intrigues me the most about it.

In my first year, here's what I learned: car audio isn't just putting a deck and four's in a car but an entire industry filled with music lovers who also love cars. The products are vast and complicated. Installing those products takes great skill and expertise that is acquired through countless hours of trial and error, through which most are done for no money and could potentially ruin a vehicle's electrical system if done incorrectly.

My second year consisted of me basically trying to make sense of the whirlwind of things I'd learned in my first. I developed my writing, streamlined my management processes for assigning stories and kept in touch with industry representatives that would come in handy for different stories throughout the year. Mainly, I gobbled up the topic that the industry was all about: passion.

I also went from working in an office to work from home. I struggled to stay focused when the TV and video game console were a few feet away, then remembered Luke Fidler, a solo retailer who was able to stay focused despite not having a team around to motivate him. His motivation was to be passionate about the thing he was doing and keep getting better every day so his customers would notice. I didn't have customers, but what I did have was you. So I focused on doing a better job. I wrote what I felt were more engaging articles focused on the people of the industry. I listened to comments from people all around the industry, from young first-year installers to 30-year veterans. Jason Kranitz called me out when I got a company detail wrong. John Schwartz nailed me for incorrectly writing his store's name more than once (sorry about that, John). But through it all, I learned both how to be better at my job and how to be a better professional.

The fourth year was about not letting stagnation set in and staying motivated despite feeling like I'd accomplished all the goals I'd set out from previous years. So I worked on finding new ones, listened to the industry and worked to be better at things I wasn't so good at before, like product names, how a DSP works and what the future landscape of 12-volt might look like based on today's latest tech innovations. Thinking about how the outside world will continually impact 12-volt, I remembered Josh, Jeremiah and Jared Mojica of GNC Customs, a family retail operation who took a store that sold furniture and jewelry and transformed it into a powerhouse in the industry. They saw the same thing I see in the world: everything is relative.

During my tenure with the magazine I met top industry gurus like Bryan Schmitt, Del Ellis and Marcel Newell. I had fun-filled, engaging conversations with manufacturer execs like Nalaka Adikari of Orca (still waiting on those NFL tickets), Chris Kane of AudioControl (Teddy K!) and Steve Witt of American Road Products (we'll do lunch soon). 12-volt techs like Matt Schaeffer, JT Torres, Tom Miller and Chris Pate showed me the value of hard work and how you can reach your dreams by constantly being better than yesterday.

Being a judge for the Industry Awards was also an experience I'll never forget. I was asked to review videos from people I'd never met and make judgments on things I barely had any knowledge about. But thanks to the information I got from Solomon [Daniels], Chris [Cook] and the rest of the industry, it became easier to know what to look for and who ultimately deserved my vote for the top honors. I honestly believe that everyone who won deserved to win during the time I was judging the awards. I hope everyone felt the same way.

As a musician and music lover, I immediately recognized the connecting threads that I shared with all of you in 12-volt. I'm extremely grateful to have been able to take part and learn from you all and am humbled by the dedication, work ethic and passion you all continue to have despite the long hours away from family, stressful changes in the marketplace and complex nature of the job that no doubt drains each of you in ways I could never imagine.

Goodbye, 12-volt industry. Keep innovating and stay in touch.

Five vehicle-specific models will ship before year end

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIF., November 28, 2017 (MEDIAWIRE) –LinksWell, producer of intuitive safety and convenience enhancements for drivers, displayed its new line of T-Style multimedia centers for select Ford, Dodge and Toyota trucks as well as the newer Ford Mustang, at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in November. Attendees got hands-on experience at the AE Distributing booth, which recently signed on to represent LinksWell in its territory. Today, LinksWell announced that all models are in production and will ship in December.

The models fit the 2014-2017 Ram, 2015-2017 Ford F-150 (separate SKUs for factory 4-inch or 8-inch screen), 2015-2017 Ford Mustang and 2014-2017 Toyota Tundra. The MSRP for each model is $1,995.00.

By connecting the T-Style to a mobile or smartphone Wi-Fi hotspot, users can access the Internet through a browser that displays full web pages with multiple tabs and search capability. They can also use their subscription-based streaming services -- Pandora® Internet Radio, SiriusXM® Satellite radio, Spotify® and more -- by downloading the Android-compatible apps onto the unit's 32GB of internal storage. In addition, drivers can use Internet-based navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze, and even program the default navigation icon to access these apps directly.

For safety, the T-Style has three dedicated camera inputs for front, rear and passenger-side views. Each activates automatically when the vehicle moves below 10 miles per hour, the vehicle shifts into reverse gear, or the right turn signal is applied, respectively. Phone Link lets drivers safely view their smartphone screens on the T-Style display with either a Wi-Fi Direct connection (iPhone® and Android) or USB (Android only.) And the DVR input enables live, continuous viewing of an additional camera to monitor back-seat infants or trailer contents.

"LinksWell fits our profile of carrying specialty lines," said John Haynes, general manager of AE Distributing. "We were pleased with their show traffic, not only from mobile electronics retailers, but from up-fitters and expeditors. More products like the T-Style and their camera and navigation add-ons will make LinksWell an important partner for expanding our business."
