January 18, 2023 -- When a customer brings a vehicle into an auto service center, often times the vehicle has pre-existing damage, even as small as chips in the windshield and scrapes on the bumper. Then when the customer charges that the dealership caused the damage after the vehicle was brought in to be serviced, disputing the claim often is difficult and sometimes impossible, thus resulting in a settlement and costing the dealership thousands of dollars to fix an issue they did not cause.

As a result, a video surveillance system was requested to detect damage of any and every size as the vehicle entered the dealership’s service bay to be able to dispute any unwarranted claims.

Challenge

One of the more challenging requests for this system was to design an application whereby virtually every angle of the vehicle could be caught on video surveillance in such a way that it could detect pre-existing damage on the vehicle.

Solution

ARG Communications, a leading provider of business telephone systems, VoIP, voice data and fiber cabling, and video surveillance in and around Delaware and Philadelphia, Penn., chose VIVOTEK and a total of 38 of its indoor and outdoor security solutions to solve Martin Honda, Mazda, Kia security surveillance solution issues.

The VIVOTEK Video Surveillance System was designed to be on its own network. ARG installed a separate network router/firewall and POE switches for this system. ARG’s Lead Technician Richard Pharoh, working with Aaron Logan, designed an application whereby the cameras could detect such pre-existing damage for any size vehicle from a standard car to a minivan to a full-size SUV. They came up with a solution in which the VIVOTEK cameras were mounted offset from the wall covering the left and right sides of the vehicle for all three of the dealership’s bays, and the top of the vehicle was covered from above. There were a total of eight cameras installed for this application alone.

Overall, ARG installed 32 other cameras throughout the service center, carwash, and parking lot. Two CC9381-HV panoramic network cameras are being used for stairwells. 13 FD9187-HT fixed dome network cameras are being used in various indoor locations. Six IB9387-HT bullet cameras are being used in various exterior locations. 13 FE9191 360 degree fisheye network cameras are being used in the service bay. Three MS9321 20MP multi-sensor panoramic network cameras are being used in the parking lot. One MS9390 multi-sensor network camera is being used in the parking lot. And two ND9541P 32-channel NVRs provide the throughput and storage needed for the system.

To date, this solution has proven that damage occurred either prior to a customer bringing a vehicle in for service, or that the damage did in fact occur while it was in the hands of the service personnel. They installed two NVR’s with 32TB of storage each to record each camera and hold recordings for the requested timeframe. As a part of this system installation, they also installed monitors for the Service Manager and Assistant Service Manager to view live video. ARG installed VMS client software and a cell phone application so that they could also view and access recordings on their PC’s or cell phones from anywhere.

Customer Feedback

The system has performed as the customer had hoped. When you can prove damage was on the car when they drove it in, it makes it easy to refute unwarranted claims and save thousands of dollars as a result. It is true that “a video is worth a thousand words.” With a drive thru that sees more than a 100 vehicles every day, the customer really needed a robust system. The customer has already avoided more than 25 damage claims in the first six months of operation.

“The customer was very pleased with the quality of the system and picture,” said Joseph Ruggieri, ARG Communications president. “They were even asked by another vendor working on the project to provide our contact information, as this vendor works with other dealerships that would be interested in this specific design.”

The subwoofers feature an ultra-shallow footprint and impressive output

(“Alpine”) introduces two new S-Series Shallow Preloaded Subwoofer Enclosures available in 12” (SS-SB12) or 10” (SS-SB10) versions. The enclosures feature an ultra-shallow footprint and impressive output for the ideal bass upgrade.

Precise Performance

Innovative Design

Using an internally braced polymer enclosure, the design maximizes airspace in the shallowest depth possible. Featuring a mounting depth of 4.5” on the 10” model (5.25” for the 12”), the enclosures were meticulously designed to provide a bass upgrade to a factory or aftermarket sound system that lacks space for a traditional subwoofer enclosure.

The S-Shallow enclosures are molded in a rugged polymer material and IPX-rated, unlike traditional competitor models which use a wooden cabinet that can become damaged from moisture. The package includes four steel mounting brackets that rotate 90 degrees, allowing flexible installation in many vehicle types. The construction provides an efficient and reliable bass response. The enclosure is non-powered and features a single 2Ω voice coil with a custom Alpine-branded push terminal, compatible with Alpine’s 5-Channel S-Series S-A55V Amplifier, KTA-200M or KTA-30MW Powered Amplifiers.

The subwoofers feature an integrated RGB lighting system and a multi-link capable design

Auburn Hills, Mich. (Jan. 5, 2023) – Alps Alpine North America, Inc. (“Alpine”) introduces PrismaLink™, a new line of S-Series Preloaded Subwoofer Wedge Enclosures that feature an integrated RGB lighting system and multi-link capable design for single, dual, and even quad-enclosure applications. The enclosures will come in 12” (S2-SB12), 10” (S2-SB10), and 8” (S2-SB8) versions.

“We believe this new line of subwoofer enclosures will not only engage and excite the long-time Alpine fan but attract a younger demographic of customers who are new to aftermarket car audio,” said Mike Anderson, Executive Director at Alps Alpine North America, Inc. “The integrated lighting feature enhances the cosmetic appeal of these woofers. The linking feature enables the user to build a bass system for their vehicle step-by-step if they wish, according to their budget.

The name PrismaLink™ is a marriage of two key features in the S-Series Preloaded Subwoofer Wedge Enclosure: “Prisma,” a nod to a spectrum of light and the optimized wedge shape of the subwoofer, and “Link” referring to the multi-link capability of the physical enclosure and visual lighting experience.

S-Series Performance

The S-Series Preloaded Subwoofer Wedge Enclosures feature a sealed 12” (S2-SB12) 10” (S2-SB10) and 8” (S2-SB8) option that are pre-loaded with the Next-Generation S-Series subwoofers.

The subwoofers feature a Carbon Fiber Poly Propylene Cone (CFPP) with ceramic/polypropylene composite dust cap contribute to a lightweight but rigid subwoofer that yields high output and low distortion during play. The subwoofer also features Alpine-exclusive High-Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround for maximum output. Each enclosure was designed and tuned for optimal playback of the S-Series subwoofers.

Unique Linking Design

With a compact size and unique wedge shape, the enclosures were intentionally designed to be installed in tight spaces, like behind the seat or in the trunk of a vehicle. The twist-lock surround ring allows for easy installation of the enclosure.

The PrismaLink™ enclosures follow a similar linking format used in Alpine’s HALO Preloaded Subwoofer enclosures. A multi-link design allows them to be used in a single, dual, or even quad-enclosure application with an optional linking kit for the 12” (KTX-LK12), 10” (KTX-LK10), and 8” (KTX-LK8) versions.

Also unique to PrismaLink™ is the pre-wired RGB light integration in the enclosure, located in the enclosure trim bars. This lighting system features a full spectrum of color options that are controlled by an RF remote. When used as a multi-linked enclosure application, the RGB feature is able to connect across the subwoofers for an uninterrupted visual experience. 

The enclosures feature dual 4Ω voice coils wired in parallel for a 2Ω load and are optimized for Alpine’s S-Series or R-Series Mono-Powered Amplifiers.

Bracket-style competition to show off the best security installers in the industry

ORLANDO, FL. – January 3, 2023 – Viper Remote Start & Security, a VOXX•DEI LLC company and wholly-owned subsidiary of VOXX Electronics Corporation (VEC), has partnered with Mobile Solutions® LLC, to bring the 2023 MasterTech Security Challenge presented by Viper, a third skills competition to the MasterTech Expo March 5 – 8, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona.

MasterTech Expo is one of the newest shows/expos in the Mobile Electronics industry and has already gained a reputation as one of the highest quality and most attended by industry veterans and newbies alike. Created for Automotive Fabricators, Trimmers, Designers, 12V Technicians and Business Owners, MasterTech Expo is a unique event combining professional education of aftermarket automotive professionals, peer-to-peer networking and a showcase of engaged exhibitors that provide specific value to the attendee audience.

“We are thrilled to have created an exciting and competitive skills challenge that will showcase the knowledge of the industry’s best security installers as they show their stuff and compete for over $5,000 in prizes and swag” said Aron Demers, Senior Vice President, VOXX Electronics Corporation.

Created and judged by Chris Libardi, VOXX•DEI’s Director of Technical Services & Training and Kyle Bylander, VOXX•DEI Technical Service Team Lead, the Viper Security Challenge will pit eight (8) teams comprised of two (2) participants against each other for two (2) rounds in a bracket-style competition.

Round 1, the preliminary round, consists of:

  • Teams will have 30 minutes to complete a Remote Start installation using a Viper® DS4® and Install Essentials® T-harness.
  • Teams will earn points based on the following topics:
    • Vehicle disassembly & reassembly (1-5) (any damage to vehicle will result in forfeit)
    • Teamwork & Efficiency (1-5)
    • Install cleanliness - module placement and harness routing (1-5)
    • Overall functionality & completion time (1-5)
    • Total possible points 20
  • The two teams that earn the most points will move on* to the final round on day 2.

*Both members of each winning team must attend the VOXX•DEI technical training that evening to be eligible to participate in the final round as there will be concepts discussed that will be used in that round.

Round 2, the final round, consists of:

  • Each team will complete a full Remote Start installation using a Viper® DS4® and Hardwire kit within a 3.5-hour time limit
  • Teams will earn points based on the following topics:
    • Vehicle disassembly & reassembly (1-5) (any damage to vehicle will result in forfeit)
    • Overall functionality & completion time (1-5)
    • Teamwork & Efficiency (1-5)
    • Install cleanliness - module placement and harness routing (1-5)
    • Issue Resolution/Troubleshooting (1-5)
    • Total possible points 25

The new line is able to achieve High-Resolution Playback

Auburn Hills, Mich. (Jan. 4, 2023) – Alps Alpine North America, Inc. (“Alpine”) introduces the Next-Generation R-Series sound system line. This line features the same “Loud and Fun” experience synonymous with previous Alpine R-Series systems, now certified for High-Resolution Playback.

“The heritage of R-Series is built on a ‘Loud and Fun’ performance quality that long-time fans have enjoyed since its’ inception,” said Mike Anderson, Executive Director at Alps Alpine North America, Inc. “The Next-Generation R-Series system honors this tradition while addressing the needs of an evolving industry and customer.”

The Next-Generation R-Series system uses “trickle-down” technology, inspired design, and performance cues from the Ultra-High-Resolution AlpineF#1Status and Alpine Status systems with High-Resolution Playback capabilities that will take R-Series to the next level in sound performance.

Hi-Res Audio Certified

The Next-Generation R-Series speaker line is Hi-Res Audio Certified, able to reproduce up to 40kHz frequency response for music that is closer to the original source. The speaker line offers two pathways: “Pro Series” and “Standard” models.

The Pro Series speakers are available in 2-way or 3-way configurations, each with a highly adjustable crossover network for improved sound tuning and installation. The speaker components are constructed with a highly rigid, die-cast aluminum basket that eliminates flexing and resonance during playback to ensure the highest music quality. The speakers utilize a premium, glass fiber-reinforced cone and an Alpine-exclusive High-Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround that all contribute to greater mid-range during playback. Magnesium Hard-Dome tweeters contribute to the “loud and fun” sound signature popular with R-Series, with an extreme swivel mount design and threaded removable housing for flexible factory applications.

The Pro Series includes a Hi-Res 3-Way Speaker Set (R2-S653) with a 6.5” Mid-Bass, 3” Mid-Range, and 1” Component Tweeter and 3-Way Passive Crossover Network for flexible vehicle application. The Pro Series also offers a 2-Way Speaker Set (R2-S652) with a 6.5” Mid-Range and 1” Component Tweeter and a 2-Way adjustable Passive Crossover Network.

The Standard Series speaker models offer 2-way component and coaxial configurations with a flexible crossover network that simplifies installation. The speakers utilize a traditional composite basket with a glass fiber-reinforced cone, a larger motor structure, and HAMR surround technology, like the Pro Series models.

The Standard Series includes a Hi-Res Coax Speaker Set (R2-S65) with a  6.5” Mid-Range and 1” Coaxial Tweeter and a Hi-Res 2-Way Speaker Set (R2-S65C) that includes a 6.5” Mid-Range and 1” Component Tweeter. For the customer with full-sized trucks or vehicles with 6x9” factory speakers, a 6x9” Coaxial (R2-S69) and 2-Way Component (R2-S69C) speaker set are also available. The 6x8” speaker model (R-S68) will carry over from the previous R-Series line.

Impressive Power

The Next-Generation R-Series Amplifier line is High-Res Audio Certified, able to reproduce up to 40kHz frequency response, and includes a full lineup that boasts impressive power, yet is compact in size, for powerhouse performance.

The Next-Generation R-Series Amplifiers include a 4-channel amplifier and two mono amplifiers, for more flexibility in sound system building.

In an effort to simplify the process in the installation bay, intentional designs were made that consolidated access to the speaker connections to one side of the amplifier and controls conveniently located at the top of the amplifier under a removable plate. Mounting “feet” were also integrated into the chassis of the amplifier to simplify the installation process. The amplifiers also feature a smaller footprint for easier installation in most vehicle applications, while still boasting the same power as the previous R-Series generation

The amplifier line includes a Hi-Res 4-Channel Amplifier (R2-A60F) with 100W x 4 @ 4Ω, a Mono Amplifier (R2-A75M) with an impressive output of 750W x 1 @ 2Ω, and a massive Mono Amplifier (R2-150M) with the flexibility to run 1500W x 1 @ 1Ω or 1200W x 1 @ 2Ω. Carrying over from the previous R-Series line is the versatile 6-Channel (R-A90S) amplifier for fully active 3-Way Speaker configurations.

Clean, Deep Bass

The recently launched Next-Generation R-Series Subwoofer line features a new design, but the same deep and clean bass performance that is synonymous with the R-Series line.

Featuring a larger motor structure and utilizing the Alpine Exclusive HAMR technology, the subwoofers are able to produce maximum output for deeper bass. A pulp Kevlar cone and ceramic/polypropylene composite dust cap contribute to a lighter, yet rigid design that results in lower distortion during play. To simplify installation, a twist lock grille system replaces the concealed mount gasket of the previous models.

The subwoofer line includes a 12” (and 10” option that boasts 750W RMS and an 8” option with 350W RMS, with the ability to choose between 2Ω and 4Ω load depending on the desired application.

December 27, 2022 -- Sony Car Audio has announced the winners from the Sony Mobile ES demo car build contest, which were chosen from the pool of Top 10 candidates by industry veteran judges Bryan Schmitt (Mobile Solutions), Gary Bell (Define Concepts), Paul Trueman (SiriusXM), and Chris Cook (MEA).

The winners are:

  • First Place: Xtreme Auto Sound – Louisville, KY. They receive a $5,000 credit for Sony gear at their distributor (Davis Distribution), a customized plaque, shirts and wireless noise-canceling headphones for the entire crew, and a staff dinner with their Sony Field Account Manager Mike Rundel.
  • Second Place: Absolute Electronix, Rockville, MD. They receive a $2,500 credit for Sony gear at their distributor (DAS Companies, Inc.), a customized plaque, and shirts for the entire crew.
  • Third Place: Kartele Mobile Electronics – Waterbury, CT. They receive a $2,500 credit for Sony gear at their distributor (GoFast Solutions) and a customized plaque.

  • Demonstrate how you'll use the vehicle as a practical sales tool to sell Sony Mobile ES systems.

In addition to custom plaques and significant account credits for Sony products, the top prize winner gets high-end Sony wireless noise-canceling headphones for the whole crew and a staff dinner with their Sony Field Account Manager.

Oracle Lighting’s Fiber Optic ColorShift® Wheel Liner Kit includes four individual ColorSHIFT LED light engines, each illuminating 150 strands of fiber optic cable to create a beautiful star-scape in otherwise dark wheel wells.

Installation is pretty straight forward, and it really provides a unique, colorful look that will turn plenty of heads. The cables are individually inserted through drilled holes in whatever pattern you choose in the plastic wheel liners, and then glued from the back to secure in place. The light engines are then connected to 12V power, and the included remote control or the free app via Bluetooth on your smartphone allows you to select the LED effects, brightness, and colors.

With over 40 Watts of total LED light and 600 light fibers this kit makes a big impact which is sure to get your truck noticed at the next night show. The colors, brightness, and effects of the LED stars are controlled through the included remote control. The lights can also be controlled wirelessly through Bluetooth with the free app and any smartphone device. It is not recommended to use this product on-road without first checking with your local rules and regulations.
