C3 Report -- While Tesla made clear that “truly driverless cars are still a few years away” when it released its Autopilot feature for the Model S two months ago via a Version 7.0 software upgrade, some owners of cars with the capability didn’t get the message and did some stupid and dangerous things behind the wheel. These include almost causing collisions by overly relying on the semi-autonomous feature and pulling silly stunts such as shaving and eating breakfast while behind the wheel on the German autobahn and climbing into the back seat as a Model S barreled down a Dutch highway.
Because of this behavior Tesla is reportedly ready dial back some of Autopilot’s self-driving capabilities to keep less sensible Model S owners from winning the Darwin award – and in the process hindering the adoption of self-driving technology by the public and policymakers. The website Teslarati received what it said is a leak and supporting photos from “a tipster” that shows a Firmware 7.1 Autopilot update that creates certain restrictions to the system and noted that “the release has gone out to select beta testers.”
The new Autopilot update supposedly allows the system and its Autosteer feature to function only when a Model S is traveling below the posted speed limit. Regular cruise control can still operate at any speed. Teslarati also reported that that the alleged limits to Autopilot “has ignited a firestorm of criticism from owners,” and is enough to cause some Model S owners to threaten everything from lawsuits to refusal to download the update – or both.
A member of the Tesla Motors Club forum with the handle Cyberax said, “If there’s an update that removes a functionality that is useful for me, then I’m not going to install it. Moreover, I’ll sue Tesla if they update my car without asking me. This screenshot [on the Teslarati website] with 45 mph restriction is now a line in the sand for me.”
Entrepreneur -- Entrepreneurship demands effective leadership. You need to be able to make solid decisions, organize plans, hire teammates and provide direction -- all under the steady pressure of being accountable for all those decisions and actions. To add even more heat, as an entrepreneur, your personal success is often tied directly to the success of your business, meaning every little decision you make could have significant consequences.
Under such pressure, it’s natural to have worries and fears. But fears can intimidate you and obscure your judgment, rendering your decisions less logical and your approach less systematic. If you want to be an effective leader, there are five fears in particular that you’ll need to overcome.
1. Making the wrong decision
As a leader, you’ll be facing decisions on a nearly constant basis. You’ll make major decisions, like choosing your initial partners, and small ones, like whether to continue a proven promotional campaign. Being faced with so many decisions can lead to decision fatigue, a well-known psychological phenomenon that can interfere with your mental health and your ability to make good decisions.
Adding to this is a potentially growing fear that the next decision you make will be the wrong one -- your new hire won’t work out, your marketing campaign won’t be effective, or possibly even bigger, more significant fallout will occur. This fear can make you postpone or delegate your decisions, but don’t let it -- remember that even the best leaders make bad decisions sometimes. Avoiding a decision is always a worse move.
2. Being criticized for your approach
As a leader, you’re going to have your own signature style. You’re going to value some things more than others. For example, you might appreciate a rigid, formal dress code, or you could completely disregard what the people around you are wearing. You could prefer a hands-on style of management or a much more relaxed approach.
There’s no one right or wrong way to lead. If you’re afraid of being criticized for your approach, it could lead you to become the leader you think people might want rather than the leader you naturally are. You’re going to be criticized no matter what by some, and accepted no matter what by others, so pick the style that suits you best, and don’t let the haters interfere with your vision.

Bloomberg -- Google’s self-driving car technology is attracting top U.S. automakers, as Ford, Fiat Chrysler and General Motors talk with the company while laying the groundwork for a future with autonomous cars.
Ford Motor Co. and Google are discussing working together, including in a joint venture to build cars using Google’s technology, said a person familiar with the talks who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.
That follows comments in October from Mark Reuss, product development chief for General Motors Co., that the automaker was “very interested” in exploring ways its manufacturing skills could complement Google’s system. Sergio Marchionne, chief executive officer of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, has said repeatedly the past few months that his company wants to work on autonomous driving with technology companies such as Apple Inc. and Google.
“We are entering the era of the technology and software-defined vehicle,” said Thilo Koslowski, a vice president in the automotive practice at Gartner Inc. “You’re just seeing the auto industry recognize the importance of that.”
Automakers are getting close to Google as they consider using the search giant’s technology to add brains to their vehicles, instead of building their own rival systems. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship, Koslowski said.
“Some Silicon Valley companies would like to do everything themselves, but it’s really the car companies that understand the automobile,” he said. “On the same side, a lot of technology companies have expertise on their side, which is interesting to the automotive companies.”

WELD congratulates instructor Jim LaFevers and the team of automotive students from Eastern Oklahoma County Tech Center for earning the title of 2015 Hot Rodders of Tomorrow (HROT) Engine Challenge National Champions. The national championship, which pits teams from across the country in performance engine rebuilds, recently concluded at the 2015 PRI Show in Indianapolis after qualifying events were held throughout the year.
Posting an average time of 18 minutes and 19 seconds in the engine challenge, which requires a complete teardown and rebuild, allowed Team Weld Racing to take the crown. Teams from the school in Choctaw, Oklahoma have been consistent high finishers in the competition being just one torque wrench penalty away from winning last year, after capturing the title in 2013.
“We are proud of the students from Eastern Oklahoma Tech Center for representing WELD Racing and for winning against outstanding competition from automotive students across the country,” said Norm Young, president and CEO of WELD. “We are strong supporters of programs like the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow that encourage young people to pursue careers in our industry.”
WELD has been a HROT supporter since 2013.
For their championship, each of the students received a $10,000 scholarship to the post-secondary institution of their choice from Ohio Technical College, University of Northwest Ohio, Universal Technical Institute/NASCAR Tech or School of Automotive Machinists. The schools allow stacking of scholarships, meaning any of the awards from previous competitions can be combined for the winning student’s educational needs.
The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow (HROT) program started in 2008 with five teams competing. This year, 153 teams competed in regional competitions for the right to claim a share of the $4.55 million offered by the educational institutions. Each team has a “sponsor” assigned, coming from the pool of HROT supporters. For more information, visit www.hotroddersoftomorrow.com or find them on Facebook.

Massive Audio will be announcing the release of several new products at the 2016 CES Show in Las Vegas NV Jan 6th - 9th in booth #3006 ‘North Hall’. One of those products is the water resistant, Nano "BLU" Amp Series with wireless audio streaming, set to ship the 2nd quarter of 2016.
All three digital amplifiers include docking ports that support the optional Plug & Play RAIL CAP. This 4 farad capacitor has been cosmetically matched to the Nano BLU Series. The “BLX2 & BLX4” also accommodates the optional UBT1 Bluetooth Dongle for wireless audio streaming and both amplifiers are designed with a “line out” to connect the “BLX1” or any other amplifier which will enable the subwoofer amp to utilize the wireless streaming.
The Nano BLU series amps can be mounted into small spaces never used before in a mobile environment due to its size, low power consumption and low thermal operation. All circuit boards are sprayed for water resistance and the rust proof stainless steel and aluminum housing increase durability.

Market Watch -- It was an intriguing story. Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly offered a multimillion-dollar bonus to tech wunderkind George Hotz if he came up with an autopilot system to “discontinue” Mobileye NV’s technology in Tesla vehicles, Bloomberg reported.
His alleged challenge to Hotz was cited by short seller Andrew Left when he announced Mobileye as the “short of 2016” on Wednesday, causing shares of Mobileye to tank.
Musk on Thursday came to Mobileye’s defense and refuted some of the claims made in the Bloomberg report, though he didn’t comment on his communication with Hotz specifically.
“The article by Ashlee Vance did not correctly represent Tesla or Mobileye,” he said in post on the Tesla’s home page.
“We think it is extremely unlikely that a single person or even a small company that lacks extensive engineering validation capability will be able to produce an autonomous driving system that can be deployed to production vehicles,” Musk wrote.
He pointed out that getting a system to work accurately 99% of the time is easy, but getting it close to 100% is the key.

Looking back at 2015's top stories, none shines brighter than the cover story from the November issue of Mobile Electronics, "Fishman Returns." The article covers the career of Dave "Fishman" Rivera, from his humble beginnings to his ascension to the top of the industry and aftermath. In case you missed it, here is that article:
There are lots of fish in the sea. Millions, in fact. Of those millions, there are three distinct classes: those without jaws, those with cartilage and those with bones. Only the bone class have flexible spines. Those fish include the penguin tetra and zebra danio. But there is another fish that has a spine and is also know for being named after another animal: the catfish.
For over two decades, Dave "Fishman" Rivera has been building show cars using parts donated from manufacturers in exchange for a partnership and stake in the future of 12-volt. As a self-proclaimed "catfish," Rivera claims his struggles maintaining both personal and professional relationships have proven he must have nine lives to have survived this long in the industry. If his continued work and currnet reputation are any indication, Rivera likely has plenty of lives left, of which he hopes to use to help bring the 12-volt industry back to the heyday he helped create.
Fresh off of being awarded the first Mobile Electronics Career Achievement award at the 2015 Industry Awards, Fishman is hard at work on what he considers to be his biggest goal: to unite the industry in a common goal.

AudioControl announced that at the 2016 International CES Expo in Las Vegas, they will be introducing their new line-up of high-performance DSP matrix-processors, and their first ever full-range processing amplifiers.
Additionally they will be unveiling a major update to the merchandising of their products, all to be unveiled on day one of CES 2016. All products have been directly influenced by leading installers throughout the USA and worldwide, to further push forward AudioControl's mission of 'Making Good Sound Great™'.
New Digital Signal Processors
AudioControl will debut two new matrix-processors at CES 2016, designed, engineered and manufactured in the USA. Both models include AudioControl's new DSP software platform, designed to deliver its new 'Smart-user' installer interface with software-ergonomically designed features to simplify and provide the best installer real-time user experience. The DM-810 has eight active high-level speaker inputs, six pre-amp inputs, and two digital inputs plus ten pre-amp outputs. The DM-608 has six eight active high-level speaker inputs, six pre-amp inputs, and two digital inputs plus eight pre-amp outputs.
AudioControl's 'Smart-user' interface contains the power of AudioControl processing through a flexible DSP PC interface packed full of features and simply laid out including 30-bands of EQ adjustment, parametric filters, signal time-alignment, input delay, phase correction, AudioControl AccuBASS™, GTO turn on circuit, as well as integrated input and output RTA's. This exciting new platform also incorporates a connectivity port that will allow users to program DSP features using Android or iOS devices, as well as stream media including high quality lossless audio via an optional AudioControl Bluetooth device.
"Given our leading position in high performance factory-radio and after-market signal processing, our dealers have been asking us to complement our leading audio-processors by offering powerful AudioControl DSP processors", commented Chris Bennett, AudioControl's National Sales Manager of Mobile Electronics. "Our product engineering and software design teams collaborated together to bring to the market a completely new series of DSP performance processors with the smartest, most powerful DSP software to simplify and create the best user experience and entertainment performance in the market today for all cars".
New Full Range Car Amplifiers:
On the back of AudioControl's successful launch of 'The Epicenter' subwoofer amplifiers, introduced in 2015, AudioControl has built on this success with the introduction of its first line-up of full-range amplifiers. These new models superbly complement the award-winning 'The Epicenter 1200™' and "The Epicenter 600™' subwoofer amplifiers.
The new models initially feature two 4-channel models and feature over 200 watts RMS at 2 Ohms. The LC-4.800 and D-4.800 (The D-4.800 incorporates AudioControl's new Smart-User DSP software platform) models have six/eight high-level speaker inputs that allow for signals to be summed directly into the amplifier. AudioControl has also included much of its signal processing technology including features of its popular LC2i, AccuBASS™ bass management, GTO™ Great-Turn-ON, as well as Linkwitz-Riley Crossovers and more.
The D-4.800 benefits from being a full DSP Amplifier incorporating AudioControl's new matrix-processing Smart-User software developed for its DM-810 and DM-608 DSP Processor line-up.
Bennett continued "Our dealers have been asking for the best in amplification from AudioControl and we have delivered a unique line up of new full-range amplifiers that will lead the way where the user truly wants to step up the performance and power of their audio system - Our new 'LC Series' and 'D Series' Amplifiers are truly "no ordinary amplifiers" and the first in a range of AudioControl amplifiers unlike any other on the market today!"
AudioControl will be debuting all its new processors and Amplifiers at International CES 2016, Booth number 2112 in the North Hall. All models are expected to start shipping early in 2016. All AudioControl products carry AudioControl's 5-year limited warranty.
AVIDWORX, with the support of Chris Cook at Mobile Electronics and Amy Gilroy at CE Outlook, is once again hosting a fundraiser for the family of Lance Putnam, wife Jenny, son Sawyer (10) and daughter Sydney (8). Lance passed away in 2014 after a valiant battle with cancer, leaving a hole to fill at home, at his business and in the 12-volt industry.
Last year, friends and supporters raised over $1,650 to help the family through their first Christmas. A year later, the family is still recovering from their loss, and could use a little help to make this year’s Christmas merry. AVIDWORX is looking to raise at least $1,000 to help out the family once again.
“Lance was a true visionary in our industry,” said Marcel Newell, president of AVIDWORX. “He dedicated so much time to bringing retailers together and raising the profile and professionalism of the industry. He loved to help, and to help others be successful.
“He was always an optimist, and always put others first. He gave so much. Now it’s our turn to give something back.”
The family used the funds last year to go on a family vacation, swimming with the dolphins at Discovery Cove in Orlando, and making stops at Sea World and Aquatica.
"We had an absolute blast," said Jenny. "I want to thank all of you who made that trip possible. Sydney is fairly shy (not at all like Lance), and didn't want to smile for the photographer in the pictures, but she absolutely could not help smiling when she got to swim with the dolphins. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. God bless you."

NAV-TV Releases Rear View Camera Interfaces For Current Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC Vehicles
NAV-TV Releases Rear View Camera Interfaces for Current Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles that is Capable of Activating a Rear View Camera Input on 768 different vehicles
NAV-TV Corp.,has announced the release of the "GM IO" line of Rear View Camera and Video input safety interfaces for current model Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles with either a 4.2" or 8.4" color monitor.
The GM IO line is a tiered product, capable of either activating a Rear View camera input or expanding the capability of the factory color monitor to add an extra video input. For rear view camera activation, the GM IO hardware interfaces are reusable after the initial single, included, activation is used via a pay-per-use downloadable activation file available in single use, 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 activations.
"Each GM IO hardware interface is capable of activating a rear view camera in 768 different vehicles before it has to be replaced. Since each activation software license is substantially less expensive than the hardware and software combined, and the activation files are immediately available to the NAV-TV dealer without shipping time and costs, we are able to deliver immediate solutions to our dealers at a fraction of the cost of traditional safety interfaces," stated NAV-TV Product Development Engineer, Jack Randall.
Unlike factory GM Dealer programming that requires approximately 3 hours to activate a rear view camera input, the GM IO interfaces require no dealer coding and activates the rear view camera input in under 5 minutes. At an average shop rate of $120/hour, activation of a rear view camera input via the dealer costs approximately $360.00 plus the installation of the rear view camera.
At a MAP price of $299 for both the hardware and single activation, the GM IO interfaces are less expensive than the dealer coding option and can be done in a fraction of the time. For dealers, that means that 3 cars can be programmed with the GM IO and the rear view camera can be installed in less time than the GM dealer can code one vehicle.
Additionally, the GM IO interfaces, including a single software use, are priced at a dealer sheet cost of 33% less than any competing product on the market and are 100% Made in the USA. To further increase dealer profits, pay-per-use activation files start at a MAP price of $249.
To ensure GM IO compatibility, the vehicle must be qualified by the presence of RPO code IO3, IO4, IO5 or IO6. RPO codes can be found on a white sticker located in the glove box on trucks and SUV's or near the spare tire on passenger cars.
All GM IO interfaces activate a rear view camera input which appears automatically on the factory color monitor whenever the vehicle is placed into reverse. All vehicles with RPO code IO4, IO5 and IO6 will include user-selectable dynamic parking lines that move in relation to the steering wheel position while the rear view camera is displayed. Although some IO3 vehicles may have this feature, it is less common and the dynamic parking line feature is not supported or guaranteed to function.
The GM IO interfaces are available in the following configurations:
