Both speakers feature waterproof polypropylene cones and UV resistant grilles. They offer your choice of 21 different illumination colors, 8 patterns of brightness and speed, as well as 21 dynamic lighting mode patterns. “When speaking to our dealers, a common theme resonated with various LED marine/motorsports speakers on the market – many simply aren’t offered in a complete package,” said Mike Roberts, KENWOOD VP of Sales & Marketing. “Taking a standard marine/motorsports speaker and proposing the sale of additional parts like LED lights and a remote control is confusing to customers and requires unnecessary added installation time.

Wireless connectivity, expanded views highlight advanced safety systems

LONG BEACH, CALIF., September 3, 2019 (MEDIAWIRE) – In July, KENWOOD USA released the first of three new dash cameras in the DRV-A301W. With an MSRP of $169.95, the reimagined dash cam features a high-definition front camera backed with a vibrant 2.7-inch screen. However, most notable on the model is its ability to wirelessly connect to a smartphone to play back recorded incidents and even download them to the smartphone for distribution via email or social media.

Today, KENWOOD announced it has shipped two additional versions of the new design. The DRV-A501WDP and DRV-A601WDP feature a three-inch display and include a second camera that sees behind the vehicle to record traffic and help determine liability in a rear-end collision. Suggested retail prices are $269.95 and $329.95, respectively. The new models complete a trio that improves driver awareness while integrating with a smartphone-centric ecosystem.

Performance-wise, each model features reversible camera view and expanded dynamic range that records clear images in dark or well-lit environments. A built-in microphone and speaker records and plays back recorded audio. The DRV-A301W records at 1080p (1920x1080 pixels). The DRV-A501WDP improves recording up to 2K (2560x1440) from its front camera, and the DRV-A601WDP increases even further to 4K recording quality (3840x2160). Using front and rear cameras, the DRV-A501WDP has a maximum recording quality of 1080p per camera, while the DRV-A601WDP maxes out at 2K per camera with both connected.

All three models mount to the windshield via suction, or to a flat dash surface or panel with an adhesive disc mount. They are powered by the included 12-volt adapter, though an available hard-wire kit (model No. CA-DR1030; MSRP $25) can be used for custom installations. Images are stored on the included MicroSD card, which can be replaced with a card with up to 256GB of storage.

Each of the three models uses an innovative magnetic fitting that secures the camera to the mounting base and supplies power to the camera through the magnetic connection. For security, the user can simply pull the camera off the base for storage without having to disconnect wires.

Built-in GPS lets each model correlate true location data with recorded footage and incidents. When the dash cam is connected to always-on power, its on-board G-sensor detects impact to the vehicle while it is parked and initiates recording to document the incident. Footage can be played back on the camera with audio, or the MicroSD card can be moved to a PC to access footage using proprietary viewing software, available for PC or Mac.

Each of the models features built-in Wi-Fi to connect to a smartphone with the KENWOOD Dash Cam Manager app installed. The connection enables dash cam control as well as downloading, editing and playback of footage with accompanying location mapping.

“Despite some early commoditization of the dash cam category, drivers are still looking for practical and premium features to improve the experience,” said Scott Caswell, senior marketing manager for KENWOOD. “Superior image quality is a must if footage is being used to determine accident liability or criminal activity. In addition, the ability to quickly download footage to a wireless phone makes it easy to post and share content.”

LONG BEACH, CALIF., September 21st, 2020KENWOOD USA is now shipping three 10.1” ULTIMATE display floating panel receivers: KENWOOD eXcelon Reference DNR1007XR Digital Multimedia Receiver with Built-in Garmin Navigation ($1,599.95 MAP), KENWOOD eXcelon Reference DMX1057XR Digital Multimedia Receiver ($1,199.95 MAP), and the KENWOOD DMX1037S Digital Multimedia Receiver ($1,199.95 MAP).

These flagship receivers come equipped with an abundance of new (and many exclusive) technologies! A “Bonded Optical Display” is adopted to further enhance their high definition 1280 x 720 (720P) capacitive touch panels, providing vivid colors and high contrast. Optical Clear Adhesive is added between the touch screen and the LCD to eliminate the air layer and suppress light reflection and glare. This revolutionary feature enhances the contrast and brightness, maintaining the very best of display visibility in various vehicle environments.

The floating panel design consists of a 3-way adjustable display: 2 positions Forward/Backward (fixed by screws), 4 positions Up/Down (fixed by screws), and user adjustable tilt by hand of -10° to +45°. The newly designed home screen is now comprised of a Source Control and Driving Widget. The Driving Widget allows selection of a clock, compass, or equalizer setting, etc., while the background allows selection of album art, audio visualizer, or photo. Photos and wallpaper can easily be customized over a connected phone’s Bluetooth connection, thanks to the addition of the KENWOOD Portal App.

The KENWOOD eXcelon Reference receivers exclusively deliver the best in sound quality and performance, incorporating tuned audiophile grade components, an X-cover anti-resonance chassis design, three sets of 5-volt pre-outs, a Parametric EQ, 3-way crossover, LDAC™ to stream Hi-Res Audio™ via Bluetooth with select Android phones, and a 2-year warranty. The DNR1007XR also adds an SD card source input and industry-leading Garmin® navigation built-in, now including 3 years of FREE map updates and 5 years of FREE traffic and weather information with the KENWOOD Traffic Powered by INRIX® App.

Driver safety and vehicle integration have been further enhanced on all 3 receivers, thanks to the Automotive Data Solutions® iDatalink® Maestro RR2. In addition to providing the seamless factory integration experience you have become accustomed to with the RR, these models feature expanded support when connected to the RR2, including an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Widget, Customizable Accessory Controls, and compatibility with not only K40, but also with specific ESCORT radar detector systems (sold separately). The ADAS driving widget will display OEM lane departure and front/rear collision avoidance alerts (available features vary by vehicle), while the Customizable Accessory Controls give users the ability to add up to three 12 volt triggered accessories, eliminating the need for physical ON/OFF switches. JVCKENWOOD corporation is currently the only company offering the ADAS widget and accessory controls with the RR2.

To further complement vehicle integration and add-on accessory options, the receivers have 4 camera inputs, enabling connection of a variety of camera configurations, including on-screen touch control with the CMOS-320, the ability to mirror the front and 3rd camera image, as well as a connection for the DRV-N520 touchscreen-controlled integrated dashboard camera. They also feature compatibility with KENWOOD’s HD Camera, the CMOS-740HD, which displays the front and/or rear camera image in high definition 1280 x 720 (720P) and utilizes high dynamic range (HDR) technology to overcome the negative effects of dark or very bright conditions, making it one of the best and safest vehicle camera options.

All three receivers are compatible with Apple CarPlay™ wirelessly and wired, and Android Auto™ wirelessly and wired. Phone display options include screen mirroring with touch control over a wireless connection for compatible Android® devices, as well as an HDMI® input. Other notable features include Built-in HD Radio®, SiriusXM Ready®, and Hi-Res Audio support over a USB connection.

Slated as “Bigger is Better,” as is the trend with OEM receivers, there is an increasing request for larger aftermarket in-dash receivers. By increasing the display size to 10.1”, these receivers have over 2x the actual viewing area of a typical 7” display. “In a world where the race to zero seems to be never ending, we couldn’t be happier then to bring the ultimate trio of receivers to the most demanding of users, providing our dealers with truly the best in sound quality and performance,” said Mike Roberts, VP of Sales and Marketing for KENWOOD. “By further enhancing the integration and installation options available with these receivers, our dealers can offer their customers a truly revolutionary in-vehicle experience”.

New role leverages trainer’s capabilities to provide more learning resources for stores and installers.

RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, CALIF., July 24, 2018 (MEDIAWIRE)– KENWOOD USA announced it has promoted Seth Halstead to the position of national training and content development manager. Halstead was given the new position after more than three years serving as eastern regional training manager for the brand. The promotion allows KENWOOD to develop a more efficient training and resources program for retailers.

Though his former position focused on a select geographical area, Halstead was proactive in developing training content and materials to benefit KENWOOD and KENWOOD eXcelon retailers throughout North America. In addition to traveling frequently for on-site training at stores and shows, he has been pivotal in the formation and management of KENWOOD University (kenwooduniversity.com), a website that supports KENWOOD retailers with product information, training resources and customer-centric marketing and educational materials. Halstead also develops product videos for the KENWOOD USA channel on YouTube, of which his videos have generated over half a million views.

“Seth has been an invaluable resource to both our retailers and our reps in the field,” said Scott Caswell, senior marketing manager for KENWOOD. “He has a natural inclination to help others while at the same time seeing the most efficient ways to do it. We are adjusting how we train and keep retailers by using more online resources, and Seth has been a key catalyst of making that happen.”

In his new role, Halstead will supplement in-person training by managing and providing content for the company’s online training resources, including KENWOOD University and pages on YouTube and Facebook. He will also assess training needs with input from retailers and work with internal teams to develop content and resources to meet those needs.

“My goal is to make it simple to connect to and learn from KENWOOD,” Halstead said. “That used to mean unending travel and lots of paper materials. Today it includes providing a combination of scheduled live presentations, on-demand content that can be accessed anytime, proactive notifications and easy-to-find updates. We can meet retailers’ and installers’ busy schedules by giving them access to what they need, how and when they need it.”

Halstead will head KENWOOD’s training efforts in the KENWOOD product training workshop during KnowledgeFest, August 17-19 at the Dallas Convention Center. The workshop, which focuses on KENWOOD’s Hi-Res speaker and amplifier line as well as selling strategies for new-generation products, will take place in room C146 on Saturday and room C144 on Sunday. To reserve a seat in the workshop or learn more about KnowledgeFest, go to knowledgefest.org.

Five of the newly-shipping models feature wireless Apple® CarPlay™

LONG BEACH, CALIF., May 14, 2019 (MEDIAWIRE) – KENWOOD USA announced it is set to ship seven of its highly anticipated new multimedia receivers, all equipped with a 6.95-inch touch panel, introduced during the 2019 CES. All models feature wired compatibility with iPhone® and Android-powered smartphones through onboard Android Auto™ and Apple® CarPlay™, and five of the seven add wireless compatibility for both smartphone platforms. The announcement signals a conclusion to the product delay caused by the well-documented industrywide shortage of seven-inch panels, and enables KENWOOD and KENWOOD eXcelon retailers to stock up in time for summer selling season.

“We are extremely pleased to ship these multimedia receivers ahead of schedule,” said Scott Caswell, senior marketing manager for KENWOOD USA. “These seven models represent the entire gamut of consumer choice, from low-profile mech-less to full-featured onboard navigation. We are eager to get them on the shelves of our retailers so they can meet the heavy summer autosound demand.”

All seven models share a common feature set: screen viewing angle adjustment, onboard control of Spotify and Pandora® Radio apps on a connected smartphone, simultaneous connectivity of up to two smartphones via Bluetooth, audio processing features and compatibility with Maestro, the iDatalink interface module from Automotive Data Solutions (ADS). The multimedia receivers are also SiriusXM® Ready, bringing more than 200 channels of news, sports, talk and more to drivers with the connected SiriusXM tuner (sold separately; subscription required.)

Two models—the KENWOOD DMX7706S (MSRP$ 599.95) and eXcelon DMX706S ($649.95) are non-CD designs that feature the new, shorter chassis to fit a larger number of traditional and off-road vehicle applications. Both models connect to other devices with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, two camera inputs, 4.0-volt preamp outputs for connections to amplifiers, and a fast-charging USB port. The DMX706S adds an internal three-way crossover, gold-plated pre-outs and tuned audiophile-grade components.

The other three new models in the KENWOOD line add functionality with wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connectivity and control over the KENWOOD DashCam, 3 camera inputs, the ability to “mirror” the screen of an Android-powered smartphone on the receiver’s screen, customizable screen widgets, and a second USB port. Each model fits driver tastes with its own unique feature: The DDX8706S ($899.95) includes a CD / DVD player and the DMX9706 ($799.95) adds HD Radio® and bolsters amplification with gold-plated 5.0-volt pre-outs. The DNR876S ($1399.95) also includes HD Radio and directs the driver with onboard Garmin® navigation.

LAS VEGAS, January 5, 2017 (MEDIAWIRE) – KENWOOD is introducing its second dash camera at the 2017 CES. Joining the standalone, monitor-equipped DRV-410 is the DRV-N520, a smaller version that is intended to pair with the company’s new mech-less DMX7704S multimedia receiver.

“The DRV-410 surpassed our expectations in terms of its acceptance in the marketplace,” said Tony Mercado, marketing manager for KENWOOD. “Despite the plethora of inexpensive models on the market, many customers preferred the superior image quality and reliable operation of our unit. We’re very happy to pair these same features with an even better user experience in the DRV-N520.”

The DRV-N520 features a high-resolution, wide-angle camera that records a three-megapixel (photo quality) image. Its small footprint minimizes window blockage, and recordings are stored on a removable eight-gigabyte SD card. In addition to its recording capabilities, the camera also measures distance and velocity between it and cars or obstacles in its view. Based on circumstances, it can trigger a collision warning to the driver if it senses an imminent impact, or notify the driver in stopped traffic if the vehicle in front of it has started moving.

As the DRV-N520 is not a standalone dash camera, its control, notifications and camera view are processed on the connected DMX7704S receiver. By using the in-dash touch screen, users can change recording modes, turn collision warning and delay departure notifications on or off, and set the camera display duration. Notifications are displayed on the screen as well.

Like the DRV-410, the DRV-N520 includes an internal G sensor to detect impact, and can be set to begin recording if the vehicle is struck while parked or otherwise unoccupied. All recordings can be played back through the DMX7704S touch screen.

The suggested retail price of the DRV-N520, like the DRV-410, is $200. For more information, visit www.kenwood.com/usa.

KENWOOD USA announced that it has hired industry veteran Randy Davis to become its next Western Region Sales Manager. The manufacturer of connected and integrated technologies for the automotive aftermarket will charge Davis with overseeing sales operations in the 13 western states, from Colorado to Alaska and Hawaii.

With more than 30 years in the mobile electronics industry, Davis has spent almost his entire career with Stillwater Designs in various sales management capacities, including a seven-year posting in Europe, where he helped strengthen sales, streamline distribution infrastructure and develop new markets. Domestically, he was instrumental in developing brand messaging and implementing campaigns to support the company’s marketing channels.

“I am grateful for all the years I had with my previous employer,” said Davis. “I was able to gain extensive experience and make lifelong industry connections that I can use throughout my career. More smartphones to become compatible with Android OS 9.0 release.

LONG BEACH, CALIF., May 8, 2018 (MEDIAWIRE)– In April, KENWOOD USA announced the wireless Android Auto™ feature built into its 2018 flagship multimedia receivers was active and compatible with select Android-based smartphones. The KENWOOD eXcelon Reference Series DNX995S and DDX9905S, as well as the KENWOOD eXcelon DMX905S and KENWOOD DNX875S and DDX9705S, allow the driver to leave the phone in a pocket or bag and still get the benefit of its powerful and useful feature set. Today, the company acknowledged the current smartphone compatibility list is small but growing.

Android Auto is the popular innovation from Google that lets drivers access certain apps and features on their smartphones—navigation, messaging, Google Assistant and more—from the ease and safety of the car radio's multimedia touch screen. Until now, the function required a cable connection between the radio and smartphone. With the implementation of the wireless feature, the smartphone no longer requires a cable for Android Auto to function.

"From our standpoint, wireless Android Auto is fully functional," said Rick Noetzli, general manager for KENWOOD product research and development, car electronics sector. "Our radios can communicate with any smartphone that has the right protocols. It's just that, as of now, there are only a handful of phones that do, and these are currently all Google devices. But we fully expect more smartphone makers to enable the functionality in their devices, and when they do, our receivers will be ready."

The only devices that currently support wireless Android Auto are four versions of the Google Pixel—the first-generation Pixel and Pixel XL and the second-generation Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL—and the legacy Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. They must be upgraded to Android OS 8.0 or higher (via an over-the-air upgrade). For other device manufacturers, wireless Android Auto will be implemented with the adoption of Android OS 9.0 or higher.

Most smartphone manufacturers will announce when software updates are available and when newer devices ship with the upgraded software. In addition, Google will maintain a compatibility list on its support page at https://support.google.com/androidauto. Under “Get started with Android Auto,” the current list of compatible smartphones is displayed under “Android Auto on your car (wireless).” (The location of this information is subject to change.)

All KENWOOD multimedia receivers that support wireless Android Auto offer full compatibility and smartphone charging through a wired connection. For detailed information on the specific features of each receiver, please view their product pages at kenwood.com/usa/car.

New mono-block amps pair with Hi-Res Audio amplifiers and multimedia receivers

LONG BEACH, CALIF., January 18, 2018 (MEDIAWIRE) – With the release of new Hi-Res Audio amplifiers, KENWOOD has introduced a series of subwoofer and mono-block amplifiers that both complement the new products and provide better integration options for system designers. Two subwoofer amplifiers, a powered subwoofer, and a versatile woofer that can be had with or without an enclosure make up the 2018 offerings.

With an MSRP of $450, the KENWOOD eXcelon XR601-1 is a single-channel power amplifier that is rated at 600 watts at two ohms. Its more powerful partner, the KENWOOD eXcelon XR1001-1, rates 1,000 watts at two ohms and carries an MSRP of $650. Both feature speaker-level and low-level inputs, include a bass control knob and are scheduled to ship this month.

The new KSC-PSW8 amplified subwoofer features an eight-inch driver and 250-watt max amplifier in an enclosure suited for simpler installs under a truck’s rear bench seats. MSRP for the KSC-PSW8 is $350 and it will also ship this month.

For custom installs, the KENWOOD eXcelon XR-W804 handles 300 watts RMS through its single four-ohm input. It features a new, evenly dispersed spider to improve durability and an oversized diaphragm for lower frequency response. Despite the larger diaphragm, the speaker is designed to fit into a standard 8-inch subwoofer opening. Shipping this month, the XR-W804 has an MSRP of $180. It will also ship as the KENWOOD eXcelon P-XW804B in a down-firing, vented subwoofer enclosure with an MSRP of $230.

“Integration is the driving force of our industry,” said Tony Mercado, marketing manager for the KENWOOD brand. “As we build products to fit more vehicle applications, it only makes sense that our subwoofers and subwoofer amplifiers follow suit. Our new, low-profile amplifiers carry the same look as our Hi-Res Audio amplifiers, giving installers more system design options, whether the intent is show or stealth.”
