Show sees 10 percent increase in international attendance
Arlington, VA, June 29, 2016 - The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, owner and producer of CES®, the world's gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies, has announced final, audited numbers for CES® 2016. The audit confirms the 2016 event, which ran January 6-9 in Las Vegas, NV, reached a new attendance record, attracting 177,393 industry professionals from around the world.
More, the final number, which marks less than one percent growth over CES 2015, underscores CTA's efforts to limit overall attendance on par with final numbers from CES 2016. The full independent audit summary, performed by Vault Consulting, LLC, is complete and highlights are now available on CES.tech.
The audit also confirms a record international presence at the 2016 show with 53,808 attendees coming from outside the U.S. (up 10 percent over last year) representing 158 countries (up from 153 countries at CES® 2015). CES 2016 played host to 3,886 exhibiting companies showcasing the latest innovation and technologies changing the world across 2,475,646 net square feet of exhibit space.
"Attracting more than 177,000 attendees is quite a remarkable achievement and our strong international attendance clearly confirms our show's status as the global technology event" said Karen Chupka, senior vice president, CES and corporate business strategy, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM. "We also are extremely pleased to see that the new enhanced credentialing procedures we implemented for 2016 enabled us to deliver a high-quality audience."
To ensure industry professionals attending CES would continue to have a positive, quality business experience, this year CTA sought to cap overall attendance right around 176,000 by implementing new registration fees and other measures. CTA aimed to cap attendance, in line with the 176,676 attending CES 2015.
CES continued to garner global media coverage with 7,545 media scouring the show floor to report on the latest trends and products from the consumer technology industry. Coverage resulted in 2.5 billion potential media impressions from February 1, 2015-January 31, 2016, a 162 percent increase over 2015. CES social media dominated the four days of the show with more than 930,379 mentions of #CES2016 and @CES and 16.18 billion potential Twitter impressions.
Some of the hottest trends generating media coverage from the show floor include IoT, smart home, computers/tablets, vehicles and gaming. Social sharing activity focused heavily on wearables, including fitness products, vehicle electronics and smart home.
"As the consumer technology industry has grown and expanded to embrace new market sectors and industries, so too has CES. Participants now include representatives from a growing number of global industries beyond the traditionally defined consumer technology sector," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM. "CES 2016 was a phenomenal event that served as a global epicenter for product launches and business deals. The audit confirms that CES continues to feature exhibitors who bring the hottest tech trends to market that are changing our world and attracts top media to cover the excitement."

ABC News -- The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is a technology nerd's playground -- and this year it was bigger than ever.
There were more than 3,600 exhibitors spread across 2.47 million-square-feet this year. The Consumer Technology Association, which hosts the annual trade show, said the show brought more than 170,000 people to Las Vegas.
Show participants are given a glimpse into the future and new technology stars are born at CES. Here were the biggest takeaways from this year's show.
Virtual Reality Is Here to Stay
There's no doubt 2016 is the year virtual reality begins to go mainstream. Jaunt, NextVR and Oculus all grabbed headlines last week for their VR cameras -- and in the case of Oculus -- its $600 consumer headset. Luna 360, a consumer-friendly camera about the size of a pool ball, made its debut at the show ahead of a planned release later this year.
"This year is really the first year consumers have access to this," DJ Roller, founder of NExtVR, told ABC News last week. "Virtual reality is a whole other medium, as different as radio was to television."
Smarter Drones and Autonomous Vehicles
Intel showed off a fleet of drones that use the company's RealSense technology, which enables them to map an environment in real-time and react to it. Intel included the technology in Segway's Advanced Personal Robots. A race car driving experience using RealSense showed movements on the screen.
Chipmaker NVIDIA showed off another super-powered computer called the Drive PX2, which is designed to be the brain inside of self-driving cars. The car is about the size of a lunch box, the computer can process 8 teraflops, which by comparison, the company said is the equivalent strength of 150 MacBook Pro computers.
"When it comes to drones and autonomous vehicles, you are finally seeing solutions out there that aren’t perfect but are solving the biggest issues that are out there without needing a supercomputer. To make something autonomous it needs to be able to see, perceive and act," Patrick Moorhead, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, told ABC News.

KICKER® Performance Audio has developed and perfected two new sizes of thin-mount CompVT™ Subwoofers, shown at CES 2016 at booth 1719 in the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall.
All subwoofers come with a single 2- or 4-Ohm terminal and are available in 10- and 12-inch models. The woofers will be available at Authorized KICKER Dealers in-store and online in January. At less than five inches deep, the KICKER CompVT is built for high power handling, yet versatile enough to fit in slim mounting applications. The sleek blackout look and red surround stitching complement a sophisticated design resulting in a high-caliber bass for every musical genre.
To increase durability and ensure maximum cooling of the motor, the CompVT has 360-degree perimeter venting and UniPlate™ back-plate and pole-piece construction. A shallow-depth, four-piece voice coil and ventless pole also provide excellent bass and additional heat dissipation. KICKER SoloKon™ technology marries the cone to a vented back brace, creating a single, cohesive system that ensures superior sonic quality at any volume level.
The injection-molded cone is spoked for a dynamic look, while a large-roll spider and ribbed surround create a highly flexible suspension system for low bass and high power handling in a thin-mount subwoofer.
KICKER Performance Audio products, a division of Stillwater Designs and Audio, Inc.®, are available for the mobile and home audio aftermarket at authorized retailers worldwide, and also as Original Equipment for automobile manufacturers.
