AutoMobility has developed an online tool for remote start retailers, enabling them to select make, model, and year of a vehicle in order to let them know the data bus manufacturer’s product compatibility, if an analog remote starter is required, T-harness availability, remote control and telematics compatibility for that specific vehicle.

“There are three manufacturers of automotive data bus kits, it is confusing for installers and sales people to know what is the best solution for a particular vehicle, especially on newer vehicles where many times an analog remote start is not required, this on line tool will take a lot of guessing out of the process and cut down on tech support calls especially during the busiest times of the year,” said Rob Nelson, president of AutoMobility.

AutoMobility is Canada's largest mobile electronics distributor. Headquartered in Montreal, along with offices and warehousing facilities in Toronto and Vancouver, customers benefit from complete national sales support and expedited shipping.

Since 1991, AutoMobility has been servicing mass merchants, consumer electronics and wireless retailers, as well as 12V specialty and new car dealerships. Its mission is to offer the most technologically advanced devices and accessories in vehicle remote start and security, radar detection, mobile video, dash cam, and audio sectors.

3/7/2016 -- Fortin announced the release of a JEEP Cherokee solution (2014-2016 Tip Key and Push-to-start vehicles) for bypass, remote starter and security system installations on its EVO-ALL and EVO-ONE platforms. The solution allows control of comfort functions like heated seats, mirror & rear defrost as well as heated steering.

Both modules offer 3X LOCK remote starter and monitor and control the OEM remote while the engine is running. Popular long range RF Kits can also be connected directly to the module as well as compatible smartphone apps.

A T-Harness is also available to help installers speed-up their installations. THAR-CHR6 T-Harness works with 2014-2016 Tip Key and Push-to-start JEEP Cherokee vehicles. This harness is exclusive to EVO-ALL, EVO-CHRT6 COMBO and EVO-ONE Fortin modules.

The EVO-ONE is an all-in-one immobilizer bypass, convenience, digital high current remote starter & security system. The EVO-ALL platform also covers digital bypass, convenience and security system for the same JEEP Cherokee coverage. No key is required for both platform installations.

The EVO-CHRT6 COMBO includes an EVO-ALL module and custom fit T-Harness that comes preloaded with a CHRYSLER firmware (supporting JEEP Cherokee specific vehicles).

Fortin Electronic Systems is a world leading developer and manufacturer of integrated consumer solutions for vehicle control and connectivity.

For those in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, there hasn't been much of a winter, and many in the remote start business are already looking ahead to spring.

According to the Northeast Regional Climate Center based at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., this is one of the warmest, least snowy winters on record. The combination of winter's prevailing storm path with warmer temperatures has meant little or no snowfall. For those who live up and down the East Coast, it's quite a change from last year.

At Soundcraft Car Stereo in Waterford, Conn., the Christmas pre-sales of remote start were not what was expected or hoped for, according to manager Josh Brunelle. "We haven't had any real snow. Usually by this time of year, we would be doing three remote starts per installer a day. But this year's winter is the exact opposite of what we had last year. We only had that one major snowstorm earlier [October] in the year."

The winter of 2010-2011 had blizzards that pummeled the Northeast dumping a total of 56 inches on New York City alone by the end of January, while Boston had tallied 40 inches. In fact, a year ago three winter storms qualified as Category 3 (Category 5 is the most extreme), which means at least 10 inches of snow has to fall. Other factors include the area impacted and the population of that area.

With temperatures hitting 60 degrees several times already this winter, folks are doing just fine without warming up their cars in the morning.

Gene Avras, owner of Precision Sound in Dedham, Mass., thinks the "season" may be lost. "Weather is definitely a good push and this year the weather we have has not been a help. Winter never started here, so people are thinking about spring now," he says. "They're not thinking about remote start."

Just as the weather dictates slower remote start sales, some retailers are taking the hint and readying for a possible early Spring.

According to Mike Molchan, owner of MM Innovations in Allentown, Pa., things have been quiet on the remote start front with weather a definite factor. "Any time it gets real cold, there's a surge in business," he says. "Christmas was slower this year, but now people are already looking for warmer weather, so what we're seeing is our car audio business picking up."

And with Spring comes another set of issues, unrelated to weather, commented Avras. "There's the price factor, too," he says. "With new vehicles, the automakers are making it more complicated. What used to be an 8-bit encryption is now a 120-bit encryption. Now the price of labor goes up and so does the cost of the components."

Omega's product development team announces Enhancements to the 70-Series Excalibur Remote Start line. Enhanced units are already in distribution.

Douglasville, Georgia – April 3, 2018 –The 70-Series is already Omega’s most advanced Remote-Start line ever. Omega takes a populist stance by including high end & high-leverage features across the entire line, including the “entry” price point units. No other maker packs the entire product line with the latest tech. Most stack the middle and higher ended models, and offer a stripped down unit at lower price points. Since all Omega “Excalibur” 70-Series units are flashable, you can easily update the main unit’s firmware when prepping for installation using the OmegaWeblink.com site. This way, your inventory never gets old.

Enhancements include:

  • 40 percent Improved battery life on the LED 2-Way controller (included in RS-475-3DB & AL-1775-3DB).
  • Instant response timing on the 1-Button RF-11EDP RF Extender kit (For use with a compatible interface module and Data Start kits)
  • Plug & Play compatibility with 3rd party telematics platforms such as “My Car” & “DRONE."

Omega wants the Excalibur Remote Start units to be the core of every install, regardless of whose accessories you want to use. So we play nice with all. And since all 70-Series units have two independent data ports, we play nice with multiple accessories.

70-Series highlights:

  • All Omega 70-Series models include a patent pending Vehicle Learn procedure that will correct common installation errors. It will identify all connected IGNITION, ACCESSORY, & START circuits and if needed reconfigure the outputs to match the vehicle's ignition sequence automatically. It will poll any accessories or bypass modules connected to the data ports & automatically switch to the matching protocol. It will also identify & automatically switch to the best available engine detection method (data tach, conventional tach wire, or voltage) & sample idle rpm (when needed). Click here to watch a video on how simple Vehicle Learn really is.
  • With 70-Series, Omega is first in adding a built-in Accelerometer (patent pending). All “3D” models are equipped with a 3D accelerometer BUILT into the window mount antenna for extra safety when manual transmission starting. If during the remote start attempt the accelerometer senses any movement, it will abort the attempt. Having the 3D accelerometer in the window mounted antenna is far superior to having it as a plug-in sensor due to its isolated & rigid install location. It won’t be susceptible to normal engine vibration that can cause a false positive, shutting down your remote start attempt. This is a major refinement in the user experience.
  • All 70-Series models come standard with "Cold-Temperature" start & "Low-Battery Voltage" start, including the "entry level units". These are very useful functions that can help users avoid unpleasant mornings on really cold days!
  • All 70-Series Starters have Two Independent Self-Learning Dataports, so you never need to hardware your Telematics device. Both support both the iDatalink & DBI protocols, so you can mix & match the modules and tracking devices you’re plugging in. Systems with a "B" in the part number also include a BLADE slot for use with our BLADE interface cartridges (OL-BLADE-AL64 or OL-BLADE-TB)
  • All 70-Series Starters are flashable using a PC and the OmegaWebLInk.com site. This means that the installer can update the remote start unit’s firmware, and set the programmable features. This is insurance against inventory obsolescence.

Some 70-Series models are equipped with the "1+1" remote control:  Industry wide, the 1-Button remote control is attractive to users who desire a smaller remote, and fewer unused buttons. As this 1-Button segment grows, but more commands are added to the 1-Button remote control, users have to remember an array of button press combinations to activate different functions.

To give you an example, press and release for START, and press & hold for Lock/Unlock, or press 2 times within 3 seconds for... etc. Also, multiple button presses and Press and Hold combinations reduce the remote’s transmitting range.  The 1+1 remote solves this by offering the traditional large START button, and also a smaller dedicated Lock/Unlock button at the bottom, all without increasing the size of the traditional 1-Button remote, and maximizing the transmitting range. It is intuitive and very user friendly.

All 70-Series Omega remote start units have a built-in Security Suite (defaulted off on units that part numbers start with “RS”). This means that every Omega starter has a built in alarm that can be set up with no additional labor if the interface module you use provides door status. It can also be layered for more protection by adding the AU-84TDPB “data” Shock sensor. This sensor has analog door status inputs in case the interface module used does not provide door status. Thus every Omega 70-Series starter can be turned into an Alarm/Remote Start COMBO unit.

"3D" units are 2-way Ready, that means that all 1-Way "3D" units come with a 2-way antenna! So to upsell the sale, just learn in a compatible 2-way controller like the enhanced 2-way LED hand held controller.

Omega's 70-Series is the most advance Remote Start in the industry, bar none. It’s also the most installer friendly, and user friendly system as well. And since every unit is flashable, you can keep your unit current with the latest updates, insuring a more pleasant experience for all.

VOXX Electronics Corporation announced the future of remote starts with the introduction of CarLinkBT, a Bluetooth module and smartphone app that is compatible with most popular remote start systems.

When paired with its corresponding smartphone app, CarLinkBT transforms a smartphone into a virtual transmitter, instantly giving remote access to the vehicle and a direct connection to OE-style safety and convenience services delivering a complete safety, convenience and security solution.

“Remote start as we know it today has remained virtually unchanged for over 20 years, providing users with a simple and convenient way to preheat or cool their vehicle with the use of a transmitter.  But what if your transmitter was locked in your car, lost, damaged or had a dead battery leaving you with no way into your vehicle?  With the introduction of CarLinkBT we have reinvented what remote start systems can now do,” said Tom Malone, President of VOXX Electronics Corporation.  “For a one-time fee of $7.99, users can download the CarLinkBT app turning their smartphone into a virtual transmitter to unlock/lock and start their vehicle, eliminating the worry of ever being without a transmitter again.”

Once the CarLinkBT module is installed with a compatible remote start and/or factory keyless entry and the app is downloaded, the CarLinkBT Bluetooth Basic Service delivers access to the vehicle without the use of a transmitter.  With CarLinkBT, never worry about being without access to your vehicle again. CarLinkBT provides peace of mind by having a virtual transmitter within the smartphone at all times.

For a one-time fee, the CarLinkBT app provides users with Remote Access/Start capabilities within Bluetooth range on up to 10 smartphones. Users will also have access to the CarLink Insurance Discount Program to potentially save hundreds of dollars on their car insurance.

In-vehicle safety services are some of the most desirable features in today’s newest vehicles. However, there are millions of cars on the road today that are not equipped with these OE-style features as standard equipment. The CarLinkBT Cellular Premium Service is an upgraded service plan that provides users with many of today’s most desired safety and convenience features at one low price. The additional services are included within the CarLinkBT Cellular Premium Service3 easily accessible directly from your CarLinkBT smartphone app:

-        Driver Safety includes our unique driver distraction Text Blocking App to reduce texting and driving while vehicle is in motion, the ability to set (up to five) Geo-Fences sending alerts when a vehicle enters or exits pre-determined zones, and Speed Alerts sending a notification if the vehicle should exceed a predetermined speed threshold.

-        Location Services – includes On-Demand Vehicle Location to notify  you of real-time vehicle location, as well as access to Trip Maps to view the path vehicle has traveled when enabled.

-        Driver Scoring – provides reports to help improve driving habits and assist in driver coaching.

The CarLinkBT module will now also be included with the Company’s recently introduced, new Prestige PROCORE remote start.  Prestige PROCORE is a “one-module” solution allowing dealers to build any style of remote start by focusing on customized features based on what is most important to their customers – without stocking multiple complete kits.

The CarLinkBT Module (ASCLBT) will be available early spring for an MSRP of $69.99.

The Prestige PROCORE with CarLinkBT (PC1BT) will be available early spring for an MSRP of $349.99.

Users must opt-in on the CarLinkBT App and agree to have their driving data reviewed by one of 19 participating insurance carriers to be eligible for savings discounts.  Saving discounts are determined by the selected insurance carrier based on driving data collected.
