October 26, 2018 -- Memphis Audio’s team has been prepping hard for their largest SEMA exhibition to date. In true Memphis fashion, Booth 11833 will be rocking and open for business in the North Hall of the LVCC. Memphis has invested heavily in the brand’s future with a new state-of-the art double decker trade show booth that will be debuted at the event. The Memphis booth will feature an impressive array of Memphis tower speakers and powersports solutions live on active demo. “We are 100% committed to the future of Memphis Audio, this construction of this new booth is part of our long-term plan for our company. The new two-story booth isn’t the only thing that will turn heads at the show. Booth 11833 will feature the hottest vehicle in the North Hall. Memphis will be unveiling a massive 4-seater stretched Polaris Slingshot dubbed the “SlingShaq.” The larger than life Polaris Slingshot is owned by Shaquille O’Neal who partnered up with Memphis Audio and Underground Auto Styling to bring this jaw dropping build to life. The vehicle will feature a custom Memphis system unlike anything that has ever rolled onto the show floor in the LVCC. The build consists of a massive 18 speaker sound system including four 8” Mojo Pro mids, six Street Reference Pro tweeters, eight MXA 6.5” RGBLED Speakers all of which are powered by three Memphis Audio VIV400.4 amplifiers. Memphis certainly didn’t forget about the bass managing to pack two Bass Reference 12” subwoofers inside the build powered by Memphis Audio’s DSP controlled VIV 700.1 amplifier.

“We did a Slingshot for Shaq a few months back here in Florida and he was really impressed with the build and the performance of the Memphis system that he asked for another vehicle to use when he was on the west coast. One really cool thing about this build is that all the speaker pods are production pieces made by UAS (United Auto Solutions) and designed specifically to fit Memphis Audio gear. This build looks totally custom but anyone with a Slingshot can buy these pods to give their slingshot a serious Memphis Audio audio upgrade,” said Jack Polubinski owner of Underground Auto Solutions.

Metra's TurboTactile™ kits feature easy-to-use rotary knobs with LCD status displays for temperature and fan speed. Additional factory-style hard buttons have laser-etched graphics to adjust the factory single-zone climate control systems. The buttons control features that are normally lost after removing the factory radio. Metra's built-in patented interface technology retains climate control, safety, and steering wheel control features. The vehicle's hazard button and passenger airbag indicator are also integrated into the kit. These kits are painted to match the factory finish and include installation parts for both Single-DIN and Double-DIN aftermarket radio installations.

TurboTouch® kits feature built-in touchscreens paired with hard buttons and integrated electronics to retain most of the features normally lost when replacing the factory radio. The color touchscreen shows climate and personalization settings, adding a high-tech look and feel to the dashboard. The

backlit hard buttons can be customized with 250 different color options. These dash kits fit either a Single-DIN or Double-DIN radio and make stereo installation easier. These lightbars are rated IP67, are constructed of black die-cast aluminum, stainless steel hardware, a polycarbonate lens and integrated-epoxy encapsulated electronics. The slim fit is ideal for installation into tight applications when additional off-road lighting is desired, without the need for an obtrusive or large lightbar system.

The Dual Row Lightbar Series (DL-DR) features a combination of 90 degree flood and 8 degree spot beam patterns, and is available in 7 different lengths, from 8 inches to 52 inches. They are constructed of black die-cast aluminum, stainless steel hardware, a polycarbonate lens and integrated-epoxy encapsulated electronics. These lightbars are rated IP67 and have a military breather port that allows moisture to escape and eliminate fogging. The combination beam pattern and dual-row LEDs provide extra illumination and lighting coverage for off-road use.

The Dual Row Cube Lights (DL-CL1) are 2.75 by 4 inches in size (including the bracket) and come with 6 LEDs. These bright cube lights provide 2,520 raw lumens with a 90 degree flood beam pattern and total of 36 watts. Made with integrated-epoxy encapsulated electronics, a polycarbonate lens and aluminum housing construction, these durable cube lights are rated IP67 and are sold as a pair. They are the ideal addition to any vehicle desiring off-road lighting.

Replacement LED Headlight Bulbs (DL-H) come in single and dual-beam options at a great value. These bright lights are designed to fit into tight spaces with a compact design that doesn’t compromise performance. By engineering a high density fin design, these bulbs stay as cool or even cooler than traditional LED bulbs with bulky heat sinks or messy braid designs. The HE-CHASE-STL chasing spare tire light from Metra's Heise LED Lighting Systems® brand is equipped with dual-row, dual-zone, addressable LEDs to add vibrant, colorful lighting to a vehicle's mounted spare tire. This kit includes two 8-foot extension cables, left and right half-circle LED segments, installation hardware, and a Heise Connect chasing controller (HE-CHASE-CB). It works cohesively with all Heise chasing LED lighting as part of the Heise Connect Universe (HCU) and is controlled using the included RF remote or the Heise Connect app, available for download on smartphones and tablets. Heise Marker Lights

Heise’s new rectangle marker lights with reflectors function as both a clearance light and a side marker light when properly mounted. In red (HE-TRRF01) and amber (HE-TRRF02), these lights have the 2 LEDs and reflectors combined in one.

Heise’s marker clearance lights also come in 2.5-inch round marker lights with 9 LEDs, with and without rubber grommets. The 2.5-inch round marker lights with the rubber grommets are available in red (HE-TR2501), amber (HE-TR2502) or white (HE-TR2503) LED colors. The 2.5-inch round marker lights without rubber grommets are also available in red (HE-TR2504), amber (HE-TR2505) or white (HE-TR2506) LED colors.

In addition to the 2.5-inch round marker clearance lights, they also come in 2-inch and .75-inch sizes. Heise Work Lights

Heise’s existing lineup of work lights are idea for trailers and commercial heavy equipment vehicles. They come in black die-cast aluminum housing in 4.75-inch diagonal, 3.625 by 2-inch and 3.625 by 1.75-inch sizes. Each working light is rated IP67 with stainless 316 hardware and integrated-epoxy encapsulated electronics.

Vehicle Safety and Connection Accessories from iBEAM

Reducing blindspots in large trailers or commercial vehicles is a growing priority for drivers. iBEAM has several commercial wireless monitors and cameras designed for larger vehicles where running wires isn't possible or easy. iBEAM also has several heavy-duty cameras with night vision designed specifically for larger commercial vehicles. These existing solutions are included in the new trailer line and new camera connection accessories will be introduced at SEMA.

To allow drivers to quickly power, connect and disconnect the cameras when hooking or unhooking from trailers and other electrical devices, Metra is featuring a new quick disconnect cable and pair of brackets from iBEAM. The new TE-TCEX-1 is a quick disconnect cable with water-resistant seals that has 32 feet of cable to run through the truck to the monitor with a maximum of 10 additional feet of extendable coil at the hitch. The new TE-TRBRKT is a pair of trailer quick disconnect brackets. They are made of heavy-duty metal and have an open slot on the mounting bracket for the disconnects that makes running the cable much easier. These products work together to make connecting and disconnecting the camera from the trailer easier and safer for everyone involved.

This year marks Metra’s 75th anniversary in manufacturing and will be celebrated with a look back at Metra’s car audio history on social media. As Metra Electronics releases new product announcements for the SEMA Show, it will also showcase a look at products from the past, celebrating both old and new innovations in the aftermarket automotive industry.

How Metra Electronics Started

It all began in 1946 at a little shop in Brooklyn, New York, with founder Michael M. Somma fixing and selling TVs and FM radios. Soon, they began creating FM radios specifically for cars under the name MetraVox and found a big demand for installations in taxi cabs. Taxi drivers spent their entire workday in their vehicle and now they could enjoy listening to the radio. Naturally, Metra’s radio kits took off. This is where the business split into a new entity focusing entirely on car audio, called Metra Electronics. Metra manufactured complete radio installation kits that included wiring and harnesses, becoming a pioneer in the car audio industry.

A Change in the Industry

Up to this point, dealerships were a major customer, purchasing radio kits from Metra to install into vehicles before they left the lot. It was in the 1980s that things began to change and transition from OE radio installations to aftermarket. The Custom Aftermarket Sound Association (CASA) was formed and lobbied to make radios optional for car manufacturers. At this point, Single-DIN radios were in use and European models were becoming more prevalent. These models required a different dashboard to fit the standard Single-DIN radio, making installation challenging for all of the various makes and models on the road. Metra Electronics became one of the first to offer a solution, focusing on its support for the radio business by providing dash kits with the installation hardware and essentials required for aftermarket radio replacement.

Metra Grows Through the Years

In the 1980s, it became clear that Metra was outgrowing its operations, which now took up an entire city block with 100,000 square feet of space in Brooklyn, New York. The company needed to find a new home. In 1986, Metra’s corporate headquarters packed up and moved south, settling in Holly Hill, Florida, where the company remains today. Several events helped contribute to the growth of the company, with Metra first attending the SEMA Show in 1980, becoming a fixture at the annual event. Recognizing the importance of developing relationships with face-to-face time, Metra’s President, Bill Jones, took a motorcycle road trip through the United States in 1991, visiting its distributors and customers throughout the region.

In 1992, Mr. Jones realized that an organized training program was needed for an industry that was growing too fast. With no standardized methods for training or schools specifically for 12volt installers, he created Installer Institute in Holly Hill, FL. Since 1992, Installer Institute has graduated thousands of students and helped push MECP and MESA certifications. In 2016, the school became accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training, and most recently had its 26-week program eligible for Title IV funding so that students could apply for federal financial aid to cover their tuition.

Metra Introduces New Brands

In the early 2000s, Metra grew beyond dash kits, creating Axxess® for vehicle integration and Tsunami® for car audio wiring and audio installation accessories. While Tsunami’s brand name evolved into the T-Spec® and Raptor® product lines, Axxess remains a top name among professional 12volt installers. In 2003, Axxess introduced interfaces to retain the door chimes in Chevrolet, which became the start of a long line of products developed to accommodate the ever-changing vehicle technology seen in different makes and models. The Install Bay® brand was also created to offer all of a shop’s hardware essentials in one place, becoming the largest product line in the Metra portfolio. To complete an aftermarket audio installation, Metra created Shuriken High Performance Batteries® along with Ballistic® sound damping. In 2014, Heise LED Lighting® became its premiere LED lighting brand, soon followed by iBEAM Vehicle Safety Systems®, AmmoTenna®, Metra PowerSports®, Saddle Tramp®, Metra Marine®, Daytona Lights®, and a product line of accessories dedicated entirely to Jeeps®.

In 2001, Metra applied its expertise in car audio connectivity to create Ethereal Home Theater®, a division specifically for HDMI® products and home theater systems. Today, this division has been rebranded as MetraAV® and has grown to include Ethereal®, Velox®, Spyclops®, and Helios® product lines. MetraAV is now known as one of the most reliable manufacturers for premium residential and commercial integration products.

Holly Hill, Fla. – October 4, 2022 – Metra Electronics® announces that it will have two booths at the 2022 SEMA Show, November 1st-4th at the Las Vegas Convention Center; booth #11139 in the North Hall and its off-roading and powersports products on display at booth #60031 in the West Hall. Metra has supported SEMA throughout its virtual events and other safety protocols because the trade show is so vital to 12volt and other industries. This year will mark a return to pre-pandemic attendance for the SEMA show, and the manufacturer is looking forward to welcoming a larger number of 12volt enthusiasts to their booths than they've seen in the past two years.

Metra Electronics is planning big surprises for this year's SEMA show. The manufacturer will unveil a new brand developed under the Metra Electronics umbrella, focusing on offering high-quality products that every installer needs when designing flexible audio systems. Additionally, more than 100 new products will be introduced, including a new line of lithium series batteries under its Shuriken brand. These batteries are designed for numerous applications, including audio, motorcycle, marine, auto racing, powersports, and more. Also, Heise LED will introduce three new controllers that will work with an all-new mobile app for smartphones and tablets to allow users to control Heise RGB, RGBW, and Chasing lighting products all from one app. The brand will also display new LED wheel lights, rock lights, tailgate bars, lightbars, and more in an assortment of exciting new styles.

Metra continues to push forward with the development of new dash kits that, when combined with their radio replacement interfaces from Axxess, bring new vehicle fit applications to the market. An assortment of their newest additions to this product line will be unveiled at SEMA, with many more planned for the future.
