Vista, CA (July 28, 2017) – Directed announces that after months of testing and trials, the award-winning DS4 system is shipping to select VIPER dealers.

DS4 is meant to be an industry breakthrough that simplifies and improves the remote start and security experience for consumers, installers, and retailers for years to come.

The new DS4 Digital Systems feature four key technologies that are integrated into one single device. Remote start, security, interface, and Bluetooth® all work together seamlessly with the vehicle’s existing systems to enable a connected-car experience like no other, according to the company. DS4 utilizes the latest technology to radically streamline the installation process, provide extended consumer functionality and simplify inventory stocking and merchandising.

With DS4 comes DirectLink, a new proprietary wireless programming connection between the service technician and the system module in the vehicle via the integrated Bluetooth® technology, reducing errors and installation time. DS4 Digital Systems also provide FREE near-range smartphone control for consumers when paired with the FREE Directed SmartStart mobile app.

DS4 Digital Systems offer new features that likely will drive consumers into authorized retailers, and this configurable and expandable inventory reduces cost. DS4 provides faster installations which means more vehicles through the bay, increasing profits. The available and optional shock sensor/tilt sensor/temperature sensor allows DS4 Digital Systems to provide ultimate protection for the vehicle.

In the words of Directed CEO Bob Struble: “With DS4, we created, we innovated, and now we’re ready to bring this breakthrough new technology to market. We wanted to make sure we did the right thing and nailed the launch of this product. I’m proud to say that we began shipping to customers worldwide on Friday, July 28th.”

VISTA, Calif. (July 30, 2018) – Directed today announced further expansion of its DS4 product ecosystem. The DS4, a relay-less version of Directed’s popular DS4+, has launched in Clifford, AstroStart and Autostart brands. DS4 had been previously introduced in the Viper and Automate brands.

The DS4 is ideal for the majority of modern vehicles, which rarely require the integrated remote-start relays of the DS4+, saving dealers and consumers the added expense. The DS4 is a more compact package, with the main module 42 percent smaller than the DS4+. James Turner, SVP, Core Product Management at Directed stated, “Dealers stocking DS4 and DS4+ will have a profitable solution for every vehicle that comes through their doors."

The CES Innovations Award Winning DS4 technology offers advantages for dealers and consumers. For dealers it means a flagship product that is easier and quicker to install thanks to onboard Bluetooth capability, the Directlink app and Directed’s assortment of vehicle platform T-Harnesses. It also means easier inventory management. For consumers, DS4 offers “Driveway Range” Bluetooth control. As consumers see the value of vehicle control with their phone, dealers have the perfect opportunity to explain and upsell the added benefits of a full Directed SmartStart or SmartStart GPS with unbeatable “global range.”

Innovative Solution Allows a Smartphone to Function as a Vehicle’s Key

VISTA, Calif. (January 08, 2019) – Directed today announced that it is demonstrating Viper SmartKey, next-generation technology that enables practically any Push-to-Start vehicle to be controlled with a smartphone instead of a key. The concept builds on Directed’s heritage of innovation in the remote start and connected car space.

SmartKey is a revolutionary product that allows consumers to ditch their car keys and use their smartphone as a digital car key. Built on Directed’s award-winning DS4 and SmartStart technologies, SmartKey is designed to replace the key fob entirely. SmartKey runs on Directed’s Vehicle Control Platform combining cellular, Bluetooth and near field communication to create a seamless and secure experience.

“We’re excited to demonstrate our Viper SmartKey technology at CES this year. We showed a concept last year and we’ve been developing it ever since,” said Geoff Weathersby, VP & GM, Connected Car at Directed. “SmartKey finally brings the car into the connected lifestyle and liberates drivers from having to carry expensive-to-replace key fobs. SmartKey allows owners to share digital car key access with family members or employees through the app or even just a text message.”

Drivers can lock, unlock, start and control a SmartKey-enabled vehicle using just their smartphone. Digital access to a SmartKey vehicle can be shared between family members, co-workers, or even temporarily with a guest via text message. A backup digital key card about the size of a credit card allows for backup control. SmartKey works with almost any Push-to-Start vehicle and is compatible with most DS4 T-Harnesses and accessories.

“At Directed, we’ve built our product strategy around several megatrends we see affecting society. The rise in popularity of smartphones is one of them, and the spread of things like ride-sharing and vehicle-sharing is another,” according to Bob Struble, CEO Directed. “SmartKey allows us to capitalize on those trends in a big way. It will enable more efficient vehicle use by families, ride-sharing companies and small fleets.”

SmartKey will be released in the summer of 2020. To learn more visit www.viper.com/smartkey.
