The Industry's #1 Resource

2-15-2017, Mobile Electronics -- If you walked the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at CES last month, chances are pretty good that you passed MTX Audio. Even if you didn’t see them, you probably heard them.

Now managed by John Ivey, president of Mitek, the company is forging new directions, diversifying its properties and adding new products.

“I grew up in this industry,” Ivey said. “We lived in the factory when I was a kid. I went to Iasca events when I was a child. I grew up in this industry going to all the shows and knowing all the people. Even through college, I worked at Mitek.”

John’s father, Loyd, who founded the company and still serves as CEO, is considered a pioneer in the industry. He maintains the vision, leadership and dedication of the company and was honored by the Consumer Technology Association in 2013 for his 16 years of service at the time on CTA Executive Boards.

These days, the family-owned business offers high-performance car, marine, home and street audio products to customers in over 80 countries around the world.

“While every CES grows in attendance, and I’m a big fan of CES—I’m on the CTA Automotive Board and the Board of Industry Leaders—there were not as many car audio dealers that attended the show as there used to be,” said the younger Ivey.

Prior to the show, Ivey said he had considered displaying some of the other products that Mitek makes to get more traffic to the booth. “We could have showed some more of the commercial audio goods,” he said. “We make a VOIP speaker that is powered over the Ethernet. I thought about adding those things into our booth to draw more people, but I wanted to stay true to North Hall—what North Hall is really supposed to be. So we haven’t done anything like that as of yet.”

Not Just Subs

When most people think of MTX, what first comes to mind is, “Oh, yeah, they’re the company that makes subwoofers.” (Thunder9500, RFL, Jackhammer). “We do that, but we do a lot more,” Ivey said, who has been running the commercial side of things for the last six years. “MTX is really where our company was founded, then grew. That has allowed us to invest in other companies and expand our portfolio. Now we have everything from ear buds to the largest audio systems in the world."

For instance, the largest division of Mitek is Atlas IED which Ivey estimates to be 10 times larger than MTX. “It’s a neat division and it allows us to gain exposure to the technology that is coming—future technology,” he said.

Basically, what the company does is digital audio transport. “Our system runs 80 percent of the world’s international airports,” Ivey said. “You have probably heard a woman who works for us and she is the voice of all the airports. So the voice you hear at JFK is that same voice you will hear in Orlando or Vegas, or Hong Kong. It’s the same voice at each airport. When the gate agent picks up the microphone and speaks—‘Delta flight 213 boarding out of gate C12’—that audio is turned into digital information and it is streamed to a massive server. We just completed the World Trade Center building in New York City, and not only did we do that building for the city, we do all the audio for the New York City subway stations.”

Phoenix, Ariz., April 1,2021 – MTX Audio, of the MiTek Electronics and Communications Group, is announcing the introduction of all new audio kits and components to their lineup for select Can-Am Maverick X3 model vehicles. This new offering is building off the success of the Polaris RZR audio kits introduced last year and will be available for most 2017 and newer model vehicles.

The new components will consist of a low-profile dash mounting kit that works with our AWMC3 media receiver, fully assembled front upper and separate lower speaker enclosures as well as available driver and passenger loaded subwoofer enclosures.

The source unit mounting kit features the lowest profile of any on the market and mounts using existing factory mounting points. It retains full access to the factory fuse panel and does not interfere with any factory or aftermarket intrusion bars. The mounting shroud is factory color and texture matched for a seamless look and feel once installed.

The upper dash speakers incorporate a newly developed 4-inch coaxial driver with neodymium motor structure designed to deliver higher output and better clarity than standard off the shelf 4-inch speakers. This is combined with a weather tight enclosure that fits to the upper dash panels and uses a Rider Aligned Acoustical Design (R.A.A.D.) that delivers more on-axis sound than other designs and features an integrated plug and play harness. Additionally, the design does not require additional brackets or major modification to the upper panels and fitment works with all factory and aftermarket roll cages which feature intrusion bars.

The lower kick panel enclosures use a 6.5-inch coaxial driver with integrated RGB lighting in a weathertight plug and play design. The harness also integrates an expansion plug to easily add-on the upper dash speakers eliminating the need for extensive rewiring when adding them into the system. The Fully Adjustable, Single Tool (F.A.S.T.) mounting system uses powder coated machined billet aluminum clamps and is designed to give maximum fitment flexibility. This allows the installer to adjust the placement relative to the vehicles body panels eliminating gap issues and ensuring the best fit possible.

The sub enclosures consist of an industry first, high output 12-inch subwoofer in a sealed Slim Line Enclosure Design (S.L.E.D.) that mounts under the seats. The enclosures are down firing with integrated 300-watt shallow mount subwoofers and will not interfere with any of the vehicles high/low position seat adjustability for both factory and aftermarket seats. Installation is made easy with our One Tool Installation System (O.T.I.S.) which reduces the install time and complexity eliminating the need for multiple tools or vehicle modification. High density Neoprene foam has been applied to all contact points to eliminate panel rattles and an anti-vibration kit with installation tool is provided in the package.

Also being introduced are all new complete plug and play packages. These packages will be available in three, five, six or eight speaker layouts and all will incorporate 1000-watts of RMS amplifier power to drive them. They will be packaged with everything needed for installation including integrated audio and power harnesses as well as all necessary hardware. Installation of the kits requires minimal vehicle modification, and each individual component installs in an average of 5-15 minutes. Comprehensive installation videos will also be available for step-by step guided instruction showing the entire process, start to finish.

“Consumer expectations have risen and it’s not just about power and the number of speakers anymore. Consumers need to trust that the product sounds just as good with helmets on and the throttle pinned as it does while hanging around camp.” said Director of Sales and Marketing, Jason Fickas. “The level of thought and detail that has gone into these kits is unmatched in the industry both in performance and integration, and we’re anxious for our customers to see the results of combining the ground-up resources of MTX with a talented development team who just happen to be passionate enthusiasts as well.”

The new Can-Am X3 kits and components are slotted to start shipping in June and more details will follow soon. Be sure to follow us on social media or check out our website for more details as they develop.
