The 95-8734W is designed for 2000-2006 Mercedes-Benz S-Class models and is coated with a hydrographic film for a woodgrain finish that matches the factory look and feel. Holly Hill, FL – July 16, 2021 – Metra Electronics® is now shipping two new dash kits with their biggest built-in touchscreen yet; a 7-inch color display. These new TurboTouch® dash kits are the first of their kind, with previous kits in this series having a 4.3-inch built-in touchscreen in addition to the opening for the aftermarket radio screen. The 95-6552B dash kit fits 2015 and up* Dodge Charger models and the 95-6553B fits 2015 and up* Chrysler 300 models, giving the interior a high-tech, upgraded look and feel. The kits include the necessary wiring harness, antenna adapter, steering wheel control interface, USB/AUX-IN replacement panel, and data interface for a complete installation.

On both kits, the built-in 7-inch touchscreen displays and controls all climate and most of the personalization features that would typically be lost when removing the factory radio components. The kits also retain the factory audio controls on the steering wheel, retain the factory backup camera, safety chimes, and R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power). Modifications are necessary for the bottom part of the dashboard, and replacement parts to retain the USB panel and the factory 3.5mm AUX-IN jack are included. These kits also provide accessory power (12volt 10-amp) and provide NAV outputs for parking brake, reverse, and speed sense. Balance and fade audio features are also retained, but only in non-amplified models. Both dash kits are designed for standard Double-DIN radios to go below the built-in 7-inch touchscreen and are painted scratch-resistant matte black to match the factory appearance.

When replacing the radio on these vehicles, the factory LVDS backup camera presents a challenge for aftermarket screens and can be expensive to retain using an interface. iBEAM’s JP-JTKT camera replaces the factory camera to provide an affordable solution that allows the driver to see their backup video on a compatible aftermarket screen when in reverse. This new solution adds to Metra’s growing product line of aftermarket Jeep® accessories.

The JP-JTKT has an RCA output for aftermarket radios or monitors with selectable parking lines and a 160-degree viewing angle. Metra’s new soundbar speaker adapter and RGB off-road fog lights complement the line’s existing speaker pods and RGB off-road headlights, offering a complete solution for Jeep® upgrades.

Jeep® owners who are upgrading the sound system now have a solution to retain the factory soundbar and upgrade to larger speakers in 2018-up* Jeep® Wrangler JL and 2020-up* Jeep® Gladiator models. The JP-1015 is designed to adapt the OEM four-inch speakers and one-inch tweeter to an aftermarket 6.5-inch speaker and optional tweeter. A harness is included along with a mounting plate and cutting template to assist with modifications to the interior material of the soundbar. The soundbar speaker adapter enclosure is made from high-quality ABS plastic and designed to withstand the harsh elements of off-road environments.

Metra’s JP-1014 replacement speaker pods for 2018-up* Jeep® Wrangler JL and 2020-up* Jeep® Gladiator models are a recommended accessory to complement the new JP-1015 when upgrading the sound system. This pair of sealed speaker pods replaces the original four-inch speakers located under the driver and passenger dashboard to install a six to 6.75-inch aftermarket speaker. They are constructed with ABS housing that utilizes the factory mounting locations for a secure fit that will heighten the listening experience. The pods were first introduced at SEMA360 and use the factory grommet and wiring, with a Metra speaker adapter harness included.

To add style and visibility to Jeep® Wrangler JK, JL, and Gladiator models, the JP-704RGBFL are a set of four-inch RGB backlit halo off-road fog lights designed to match Metra’s existing JP-704RGB seven-inch round off-road headlights**. The polycarbonate lens cover is virtually unbreakable and the lights are built with a die-cast aluminum housing, rated IP67 to withstand harsh weather and off-road environments. The 15 white LEDs have a bright 800-lumen output for each fog light, consuming 30 watts total per light. The backlight RGB lights have 16 million different color options using the Metra RGB smartphone app*, which will also sync with the JP-704RGB headlights to complete the look. The fog lights are plug-n-play with Metra’s RGB-CB1 controller, which is sold separately and required for operation. Depending on the model or trim level, additional fog light mount brackets may be required for the installation, and installers should see the JP-JFOG or JP-JFOG2 for vehicle-specific details. This year marks Metra’s 75th anniversary in manufacturing and will be celebrated with a look back at Metra’s car audio history on social media. As Metra Electronics releases new product announcements for the SEMA Show, it will also showcase a look at products from the past, celebrating both old and new innovations in the aftermarket automotive industry.

How Metra Electronics Started

It all began in 1946 at a little shop in Brooklyn, New York, with founder Michael M. Somma fixing and selling TVs and FM radios. Soon, they began creating FM radios specifically for cars under the name MetraVox and found a big demand for installations in taxi cabs. Taxi drivers spent their entire workday in their vehicle and now they could enjoy listening to the radio. Naturally, Metra’s radio kits took off. This is where the business split into a new entity focusing entirely on car audio, called Metra Electronics. Metra manufactured complete radio installation kits that included wiring and harnesses, becoming a pioneer in the car audio industry.

A Change in the Industry

Up to this point, dealerships were a major customer, purchasing radio kits from Metra to install into vehicles before they left the lot. It was in the 1980s that things began to change and transition from OE radio installations to aftermarket. The Custom Aftermarket Sound Association (CASA) was formed and lobbied to make radios optional for car manufacturers. At this point, Single-DIN radios were in use and European models were becoming more prevalent. These models required a different dashboard to fit the standard Single-DIN radio, making installation challenging for all of the various makes and models on the road. Metra Electronics became one of the first to offer a solution, focusing on its support for the radio business by providing dash kits with the installation hardware and essentials required for aftermarket radio replacement.

Metra Grows Through the Years

In the 1980s, it became clear that Metra was outgrowing its operations, which now took up an entire city block with 100,000 square feet of space in Brooklyn, New York. The company needed to find a new home. In 1986, Metra’s corporate headquarters packed up and moved south, settling in Holly Hill, Florida, where the company remains today. Several events helped contribute to the growth of the company, with Metra first attending the SEMA Show in 1980, becoming a fixture at the annual event. Recognizing the importance of developing relationships with face-to-face time, Metra’s President, Bill Jones, took a motorcycle road trip through the United States in 1991, visiting its distributors and customers throughout the region.

In 1992, Mr. Jones realized that an organized training program was needed for an industry that was growing too fast. With no standardized methods for training or schools specifically for 12volt installers, he created Installer Institute in Holly Hill, FL. Since 1992, Installer Institute has graduated thousands of students and helped push MECP and MESA certifications. In 2016, the school became accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training, and most recently had its 26-week program eligible for Title IV funding so that students could apply for federal financial aid to cover their tuition.

Metra Introduces New Brands

In the early 2000s, Metra grew beyond dash kits, creating Axxess® for vehicle integration and Tsunami® for car audio wiring and audio installation accessories. While Tsunami’s brand name evolved into the T-Spec® and Raptor® product lines, Axxess remains a top name among professional 12volt installers. In 2003, Axxess introduced interfaces to retain the door chimes in Chevrolet, which became the start of a long line of products developed to accommodate the ever-changing vehicle technology seen in different makes and models. The Install Bay® brand was also created to offer all of a shop’s hardware essentials in one place, becoming the largest product line in the Metra portfolio. To complete an aftermarket audio installation, Metra created Shuriken High Performance Batteries® along with Ballistic® sound damping. In 2014, Heise LED Lighting® became its premiere LED lighting brand, soon followed by iBEAM Vehicle Safety Systems®, AmmoTenna®, Metra PowerSports®, Saddle Tramp®, Metra Marine®, Daytona Lights®, and a product line of accessories dedicated entirely to Jeeps®.

In 2001, Metra applied its expertise in car audio connectivity to create Ethereal Home Theater®, a division specifically for HDMI® products and home theater systems. Today, this division has been rebranded as MetraAV® and has grown to include Ethereal®, Velox®, Spyclops®, and Helios® product lines. MetraAV is now known as one of the most reliable manufacturers for premium residential and commercial integration products.

75 years after introducing its first automotive radio kit, Metra Electronics will attend the 2021 SEMA Show to celebrate its innovations over the decades. The PRI Trade Show is for industry professionals only, and features the latest in motorsports technology on display for racing business professionals, distributors and retailers. In the showcase, Metra will have the iBeam 7” Wireless Monitor with Wireless Camera Kit (TE-WMSC). This large LCD monitor links to a waterproof, wireless CMOS camera that can be installed anywhere on a vehicle. A 120 degree viewing angle and built-in LED night vision camera provides a clear view, while the powerful 2.4GHz Wi-Fi system and wireless range of 150 meters ensures connectivity will not be interrupted, even in adverse conditions. Metra Electronics has launched more than 40 new vehicle safety system products this year for iBeam, with both commercial and consumer solutions.

Also on display will be the Heise 7” Round LED Jeep Headlight Set (HE-PBHL704). These DOT approved headlights feature a black front face with white, partial angel eye halos that connect to running lights. Thirteen 5-watt OSRAM LEDs are in each housing with an 841 lumen low beam and 1834 lumen high beam. These headlights are designed for Jeep Wranglers but also fit most vehicles that use a 7” round headlight, and are popular in the racing industry.

Heise LED Lighting Systems has also launched new LED headlight kits this year, and the H4 LED Headlight Kit (HE-H4LED) will be on display in the featured products showcase. These headlights are brighter and easier to install, with 6000 lumens and a compact, radial designed heatsink to fit better in tight locations. The lights allow for bulb rotation to adjust the beam pattern and come with a 6500K color temperature that can be adjusted to 3000K or 8000K with the included films. The lights features Aviation Level VII aluminum body with 25 watts per bulb and are available in the most common models and sizes for vehicles.
