Petra Industries, the nation’s leading wholesale distributor of consumer electronics, wireless accessories, custom installation products, mobile audio/video accessories and appliance connection supplies, is pleased to announce its 17th annual Charity Golf Tournament on October 8 raised $100,000 to support Whiz Kids Oklahoma, Mercy Multiplied, Wounded Warrior Project, FedExFamilyHouse and Oklahoma Project Woman.
This year’s tournament held extra significance: As part of Petra’s 30th anniversary celebration, they launched their Hope-In-One Initiative. This initiative was created to honor the long time supporters of Petra’s tournament and their dedication to giving back to the community. To kick off Hope-In-One, earlier in the year Petra asked supporters to nominate charities that had significance in their lives to be considered for tournament support. Petra’s tournament committee reviewed a tremendous volume of nominations and selected three additional charities (Wounded Warriors, Fed Ex Family House and Oklahoma Project Woman) to be beneficiaries of this year’s tournament.
“Being able to give back to the community is such an important part of Petra, and the support this tournament receives every year proves over and over again that it is also important to our business partners,” said Bill Stewart, Petra founder and CEO. “That is why we were so excited to create the Hope-In-One initiative and be able to extend our financial reach so much further and give to so many more causes that fill crucial needs within so many communities.”
More than 125 of Petra’s vendors and partners participated in this annual event. The festivities kicked off on Wednesday, October 7, with a cocktail reception and Texas Hold ‘Em tournament at the Fox & Hound Sports Tavern. The following day participants teed off with a shotgun start for a best-ball scramble at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla. The tournament concluded with a luncheon for all attendees, where prizes were awarded for best team score, longest drive, longest putt and closest to this pin on designated holes.
The highlight of the luncheon was the presentations made by representatives of the charities explaining the work of their organization and expressing gratitude to Bill Stewart and all in attendance. During the presentations, Whiz Kid program graduate Baruc Lara shared how Whiz Kids Oklahoma helped him go from a struggling second grader in danger of failing to a successful high school student prepared for a future of hope and significance. Katie Peltier, a graduate of Mercy Multiplied’s program for young women, shared how the program changed the trajectory of her life and how seventeen years later she has been able to use the principles she learned to help a community of U.S. servicemen and their families. The luncheon concluded with Bill Stewart and his wife, Cindy, presenting checks to each charity representative.
