Bay County retailer re-opens to serve community despite ongoing repairs

PANAMA CITY, FLA., December 5, 2018 — Sommer Sound Systems, a Bay County staple for more than 20 years, announced that it has re-opened its doors following the devastating effects of hurricane Michael, which caused more than $15 billion in damage and was the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in the Florida panhandle.

Sommer Sound Systems specializes in the selection, sale and integration of vehicle audio, security and safety products to provide vehicle owners with a better driving experience. The facility sustained major storm and water damage to its roof, garage door and several windows. In addition, the store lost its exterior signage and fencing.

“Our staff has been incredible,” said Bill Sommers, CEO of Sommer Sound Systems. “They’ve pitched in and we have worked as a team to get the store back into operational shape. We felt it was important to get up and running as soon as possible. Not only do we want to service our community as we have done for the past 22 years, but we also want to serve as an example of the strength and perseverance of the people of Bay County. We are alive and #PanhandleStrong!”

The store has resumed normal business hours, Tuesday – Friday, 9am to 6pm, and Saturday, 9am to 5pm. Installation and some other services will be limited due to ongoing repairs and equipment replacement; however, the store will operate on a cash-and-carry basis until affected areas are repaired.

Sommer Sound Systems has proudly served Bay County for the past 22 years, maintaining an A+ Better Business Bureau rating. It is the recipient of the 2012 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Business Ethics and 2017 BBB Torch Award Runner-up. The store is also a local sponsor and supporter of various charities such as Toys for Kids, Shriners and high school sports programs, and has co-hosted Northwest Florida’s largest charity car and truck show, Spring Fling. The staff is Mobile Electronics Specialist Certified with over 35 years of experience.

“We wish everyone affected by Hurricane Michael a speedy recovery,” said Sommer. “We invite our community to come by for any of their car, truck or marine audio / video needs.”
