This interface, the AX-SSO, is now available, along with vehicle-specific harnesses for select Ford vehicles. Having the engine turn off when stopped may be bothersome to some people, especially if it causes the air conditioning or heat to turn off at a long traffic light during the summer or winter months. Now installers can offer drivers the option to override or re-engage this feature automatically, whether they have a factory or aftermarket radio installed. The vehicle type is configured through Axxess Updater PC software and a simple four-wire installation is done at the radio location.

Holly Hill, Fla. – August 28, 2019 – Axxess by Metra Electronics® is now shipping the next generation AX-DSP-X Digital Signal Processor, two plug-n-play packages for Ford A2B amplifiers and two plug-n-play harnesses for Volkswagen. This new series was first announced at CES 2019 to expand and improve the original AX-DSP product line. Compared to the original AX-DSP, the new AX-DSP-X has 10 individually assigned output channels and an option to password protect settings via the Axxess DSP app for phones and tablets. It still includes chime control and digital amplifier turn-on capability, along with all of the other features of the original patented AX-DSP, (which had a 6 channel output without password protection settings). This new product replaces the original AX-DSP and works will all of the existing harnesses.

Complete Tuning Control: Installers will have full control to fine-tune each of the 10 channel outputs individually, controlled via Bluetooth® in the free app. The app makes tuning easy with a 31 band graphic EQ and up to 10ms time delay for each channel, with independent high, low and bandpass filters. Once tuning has been completed, installers can password protect their settings to prevent anyone else from adjusting and the information is stored for future recall.

Retain Features with a Built-in Interface: Utilizing Axxess’s data interface technology, the AX-DSP-X goes beyond what a traditional DSP can do and retains many of the features commonly lost when upgrading a sound system. Voice prompts, parking sensor chimes and other factory chimes are retained with adjustable volume control that many traditional DSPs cannot offer. This is a cost-effective solution for customers who want to retain their factory radio and improve their vehicle sound quality, while still retaining systems like SYNC® or OnStar®.

One Solution, Many Applications: The AX-DSP-X solution already works with a wide range of vehicle applications and systems, including OE or aftermarket, and digitally controlled amplifiers or analog audio, in addition to non-amplified vehicles that do not have chimes. DSP Packages

Axxess's new DSPL and DSPX packages fit select Chrysler, Lincoln, BMW, and GM vehicles, including industry-leading solutions designed for Ethernet amplifiers in BOSE sound systems. These products feature combined digital signal processor and Interface technologies that allow installers to upgrade their music experience and customize their sound system. The DSP reflashes the OE radio and gives full tuning control from the palm of your hand. It is designed to integrate with factory audio systems and offers easy sound system expansion. Axxess' DSPL series provides six channels of output and a 15-band graphic EQ per channel, while the DSPX series features 10 channels of output and a 31-band graphic EQ per channel. Both products offer selectable crossover slopes. These products feature independent equalization for each output and the ability to read, write, and store configurations for future recall. All tuning is done wirelessly via a free downloadable app, available exclusively for Android® devices using the Google Play store.      

Vehicle-Specific DSP T-Harnesses

Another exciting announcement from Axxess are new vehicle-specific DSP T-harnesses, designed to fit select BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota, and more. These harnesses offer an "a la carte" option for installers where they can use them to fit their unique needs or pair them with Axxess' DSPX or DSPL packages. These harnesses have easy plug-n-play installation and provide versatile, cost-effective solutions for installers allowing them to keep less inventory in stock.

Amp Retention Interfaces            

Axxess is debuting two new amp retention interfaces at SEMA; one designed to retain the Harmon Kardon® amplifier in select European vehicles such as BMW and Porsche, and one designed to retain the BOSE amplifier in select GM vehicles. These add-on amplifier interfaces are used when replacing the factory radio, such as with Metra's dash kits. These interfaces also retain the balance audio feature when replacing the factory radio and are Micro “B” USB updatable.

START/STOP Engine Override Interface

Axxess expands its AXSSO series with a new START/STOP engine override interface for select 2020-Up* Chrysler vehicles. This interface automatically disengages the STOP/START engine feature. The setting remains even after the key has been cycled, and the factory STOP/START button can resume the STOP/START feature once again. This exclusive and patented technology works with factory or aftermarket radios and is programmed through the Axxess Updater software program. This interface has weather-resistant housing and harnessing with plug-n-play installation under the hood.

AXTC Interfaces              

A new Interface has been added to Axxess' Total Control Series, designed for use when replacing the radio in select Ford 2015-2018* vehicles. These products utilize patented Auto-Detect technology that automatically detects the vehicle type, radio connection, and preset controls, while allowing the ability to dual-assign steering wheel controls. It provides NAV outputs, accessory power, and a 12-volt illumination output, in addition to retaining R.A.P., and balance and fade. The Axxess Total Control Series is a universal solution designed to work with all major radio brands and both amplified and non-amplified audio systems. They can be manually programmed for most vehicles and will retain settings even after battery disconnection or interface removal.

Vehicle-Specific Line Output Converters

Axxess is introducing an assortment of new vehicle-specific line output converters designed to fit select BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and more. These LOCs feature T-harnesses that install quickly and make it easy for installers to add an amplifier for subwoofers or speakers to a factory radio. They are designed to provide (2) channels of low-level audio output from the factory system, with 55 watts per channel. A Gain Controller is included to adjust overall output, and they are 12v-500mA remote wire activated with signal sense.

Designed for radio replacement integration, the AXTC-1 is a data interface and improved steering wheel control retention solution in one. It combines all of the features of the patented ASWC-1 with additional patent-pending features into one robust product for new radio installations. When replacing a radio, the interface utilizes patented Auto-Detect technology1 that automatically detects the vehicle type, radio connection and preset controls, while allowing the ability to dual assign steering wheel controls. Axxess has upgraded the LED feedback for simple, easier programming experience and provided improved, user-friendly instructions and a smaller, low-profile footprint. Holly Hill, FL – July 16, 2020 – Axxess® by Metra Electronics® is now shipping new integration products for a wide range of GM and BMW vehicles. Adding to the Axxess Total Control Interface Series™ (AXTC) are eight new solutions for radio replacement integration, which include vehicle-specific harnessing and the AXTC data interface. When replacing a radio, the interface utilizes patented Auto-Detect® technology1 that automatically detects the vehicle type, radio connection and preset controls, while allowing the ability to dual assign steering wheel controls. The AXTC interface also provides additional patent-pending features to give installers a single solution that offers total control. It also provides NAV outputs, accessory power and a 12-volt illumination output, in addition to retaining R.A.P. (retained accessory power). The Total Control Interface Series is designed to work with all major radio brands. New AX-DSP Features Simple Installation, Smaller Size and Versatility

Holly Hill, FL - August 9, 2017 – Axxess Interfaces by Metra Electronics® has developed a cost effective option for customers desiring to improve vehicle sound quality with a digital signal processor. The AX-DSP presents an all-in-one solution that works with a variety of car audio system setups and includes a built-in interface.

The “before-the-amp” solution is designed to allow installers the option to remove the factory amplifier or to add a subwoofer while still maintaining the original equipment features and controls of the radio. Since every customer has different needs and budgets, the flexibility of the Axxess Digital Signal Processor allows the installer to customize a solution based on what the customer is wanting to replace or keep in their system.

From fixed level output for digital systems to analog factory systems, or even adding a subwoofer to an OE system, the versatile AX-DSP has installers covered. Unlike traditional DSPs on the market, this allows the installer to present a better, more cost effective solution to their customer.

Installers will also appreciate how fast and easy it is to install the AX-DSP behind the factory radio, thanks to its small footprint, which is about ⅔ the size of competing products that are designed for after the OE amplifier installation. Due to the complexity of technology in newer vehicles, installation for newer models requires many more wires for data lines. To further cut down on install time, Axxess has engineered vehicle specific T-Harnesses (sold separately), that make installation even faster and easier, with no need to cut any wires. Using a T-Harness can cut down installation time from 1 hour to just 5 minutes and are highly recommended.

Once installed, the AX-DSP features and settings are controlled via Bluetooth from a free mobile application, available for iOS (10.2 or higher) and Android (4.1 or higher) smartphone or tablet devices. The mobile application gives users control over audio settings to achieve their ideal sound quality desired. There are six inputs and six outputs for front, rear, and sub. Installers can also adjust the selectable high and low level inputs. Front, Rear and Sub outputs each have an independent two-way crossover in line with a 31 band graphic equalizer.  The Front, Rear, and Sub outputs can be delayed independently for up to 10ms to optimize sound for the listening position. The AX-DSP also features chime control for vehicles with amp-generated chimes, along with clipping detection and limiting circuits. It retains SYNC and OnStar, and can read, write and store your information for future recall.

Alternatively, the AX-DSP could be used just as a stand alone interface to feed signal to a DSP that cannot work with a digitally amplified system. “This solution is a great fix for customers or installers desiring a specific type of DSP that would otherwise require a timely installation process using summing devices. What typically required labor intensive troubleshooting to install can now be much faster with our AX-DSP used as an interface,” says Jason Anderson, VP of Research and Development for Metra’s 12 volt brands.

Retains Unique OE Settings Lost When Replacing Factory Radio

Holly Hill, Fla. –  August 20, 2019 – Axxess® by Metra Electronics® is now shipping a patent-pending personalization retention interface for select Jeep, Mazda, Ram and Toyota vehicles. It is designed as an add-on product for aftermarket radio upgrades so that vehicle owners do not lose control over specific settings when their factory radio is removed. The Axxess Bluetooth® Vehicle Customization Interface (AX-CUSTOM-BT) allows users to access, edit and control settings for many of the most commonly lost vehicle personalization options by using a Bluetooth® enabled smartphone app, available for both Android® and Apple® mobile devices. Options will vary by vehicle, but may include settings for locks, security, engine off options, lights, a chime or other audio options that aren’t accessible from the new head unit. The AXSSO-GM is designed to automatically disengage the STOP/START engine feature on select 2016-2019 GM vehicles, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC. This new and exclusive technology was previously introduced at CES 2019 for select Ford and Chrysler models. The patent-pending interface can be used with factory or aftermarket radios with no programming required. The AXSSO-GM has weather-resistant housing and harnessing with a simple two-wire installation under the hood.

As some newer vehicles come equipped with a way to disengage the engine’s STOP/START feature, there are still several GM models that do not allow the driver to turn this off.
